I did try to get Dr. Valentine's number from Dade Directory Assistance.
Alas, I settled for "no listing" from the operator. I will track down
his phone number. I may be meeting with someone shortly who knows (or
knew) Dr. Valentine. If this meeting pans out, I just may have
something interesting to report in a few weeks. If the visit falls
through...well, forget I said anything!

I am curious to know if anyone knows what the theory "The Oz Factor" is all
about? I have a very limited understanding of it, but I know it involves
sighting witnesses prior to actually seeing a UFO. Anyone with information?

I believe that all viewpoints have been heard ref the discussion of
how illiterate we at Paranet really are.

I strongly suggest that all parties to this thread drop it *NOW*.
Since all viewpoints have been aired, further discussion can only deteriorate
into flames as the warring camps defend their stances. For the sake
of friendship, the net, and the phone bills of all involved, LET'S
DROP THIS THREAD.

I believe we have more important issues to discuss than spelling et
al. Let's get on with them.

Jenny Randles makes mention of it in her latest book. It seems to relate to
a sort of "otherworldly feeling" that accompanies many abduction
experiences. Randles is the only author I have seen make mention of it as a
clearly defined element of the abduction process.

Ok on the pulsars and what not, this should clear ALL the
misconceptions up!
A Pulsar is the remnant of a star that exploded in what is known as a
supernova explosion. The result is a rapidly spinning core with HOT
SPOTS on it. These hot spots are like lighthouse beacons and can be
seen with a variety of telescope types. As a pulsar spins a hot spot
toward us, we record a sudden rise and drop of energy at radio/visual
wavelengths. The crab pulsar is a famous pulsar. contrary to popular
belief, pulsars are NOT at the edge of the known Universe, as that
location is reserved for QUASARS or Quasi-Stellar-Objects, where the
name comes from. Quasars are intense radio sources whereas Pulsars are
known to emit high energy X-rays at the other end of the spectrum in a
sense. Pulsars are the most rapidly spinning objects for their size.
For example, a typical pulsar size might be the size of the Moon or the
Earth. Some of these have been observed to rotate over 650 times a
second!!!! Can you picture the immense gravitational field that must
hold such a body together under such stress? It is also known that
these compact stellar cores are slowly losing momentum, and slowing
down. Such a rate is a good clue to the AGE of the Pulsar and thus the
supernova explosion itself.
On that size of the Pulsars, I gave you the wrong size there! I dont
know what I was thinking , but pulsars are more like the size of the US
and maybe several larger states! I was thinking white dwarf and
neutron stars!

You are quite correct in saying that people in Miami were not seeing
flashes of light from a pulsar. We need to be careful that
explanations for identified UFOs (IFOs) are scientifically correct.
Astronomers have a technical term for the twinkling of the stars:
scintillation. An astronomy prof that I once had jokingly said,
"We never say things simply. Stars don't twinkle, they scintillate!"

At times the effect can be quite spectacular. I vividly recall one
night when I was working late at the site of the Very Large Array
radio telescope in New Mexico. The air was cool and very clear and
dark. Sirius was low in the sky and I stood in awe for several
minutes watching the brilliant flashes of color from it.

I think you are confusing pulsars and quasars. Quasars are the things
that seem to be very far away near the edge of the observable universe.
Pulsars are observed within our own galaxy. One of the most famous
is the pulsar at the center of the Crab Nebula. BTW, some pulsars
are known to emit pulses at various wavelengths in addition to radio
wavelengths. However, this can't be seen with the unaided eye. It
was a big accomplishment when astronomers verified optical pulses from
the Crab pulsar.

I dont know about the rest of you, but since I used to work in a highly
classified area of the military, I know that the government, (and it
doesnt matter which country either), doesnt want it's citizenry to know
about anything that the government thinks that they can get a handle on
to give themselves more power over it's populace. This holds true for the
Project Blue Book also. PBB was just so much pablum for the public to
shut the civilians up about anything relating to UFO's or anything else
that is classed as paranormal. They have whole crews of personell that do
nothing but put out propaganda to debunk anything that the government
feels that they cannot control.

Incidently, I'm new to the Paranet, and I'd like to say that I like what
I see in here! In fact, I'm opening up a section on my own BBS for the
users to discuss such things at will. If anyone is interested, it runs
only at 300 bps, so long distance callers probably wouldnt like it too
much, but in case anyone is, the number is (319) 365 6225. But now back
to the other things.

A good example of what I was referring to is when we would come back from
an "assignment", we would be brought to a debriefing room, and told that
we were not where we thought we had been, and had not been doing what we
thought we had been doing, but were "actually" at such and such a place
doing something else entirely. The government is quite expert at
dis-information. And that applies to ANY government. (Discussion?)

Thanks for the astronomy lesson.

I took one astronomy course back in 1975 at American University. I got a D.
My instructor was Richard Berendzen, the same Richard Berendzen who will be
giving the keynote address at the next CSICOP Conference.

No wonder he gave me a D!

From: paranet!Greg.Sandow
Subject: Bill Cooper's lecture in L.A.
Date: 8 Nov 89 21:11:00 GMT

I heard Bill Cooper speak to an audience of about 1000
people this past Sunday in Los Angeles. I'll upload a more
detailed report later, but essentially he wasn't there to
talk about UFOs.
Instead he wanted to warn us about a secret world
government he thinks was created in response to the danger
of alien invasion. This secret world government has bases on
the moon and Mars, has established daycare centers as a plot
against the American family, and, as further attacks on
traditional American freedoms, fosters such horrors as gun
control and random police searches for drunk drivers.
And -- just in case all that doesn't sound bad enough --
Biblical prophesies of coming disasters all will come true,
just as all Biblical prophecies have always come true. The
true mission of the recently launched Project Galileo is to
drop 50 pounds of plutonium into Jupiter's atmosphere, thus
turning the planet into a new star, which the secret world
government plans to call . . . Lucifer!
A good part of the crowd gasped at that, just as they'd
cheered Cooper's attacks on gun control. Others heckled him
for not talking more about UFOs.
The UFO stuff in his talk was mostly familiar: see the
various Cooper files here on Paranet. Though there were a
few new assertions, or at least assertions new to me.
Abductees, Cooper said, are given one of three kinds of
implants: the traditional sphere up the nose, something
under the base of the skull, or something placed behind the
right ear, with visible under-the-skin wiring running up the
skull to somewhere else.
If you have this last implant, he warned, don't go near a
military base: guards have orders to shoot you on sight!
Cooper also had tapes meant to corroborate his UFO data.
One was a phone conversation with someone who -- working as
a Navy radioman during the Appolo-Soyuz space mission --
said he'd monitored highly secret radio transmissions headed
"Majority Advisory," in which there were repeated references
to "IAC"'s.
And the second was a tape of what Cooper said were radio
transmissions from the Discovery shuttle flight, on which a
voice could be heard through thick static saying: "Houston,
this is Discovery. We still have the alien spacecraft under
surveillance."

Much of this -- above all the non-UFO allegations --
seems to be near-nutcake stuff. And in my fuller report I'll
decribe the little I discerned about the shadowy (but
apparently inept) organization that appears to be growing up
around Cooper.
But one thing did impress me. When Cooper talked about
aliens and UFOS, he was almost painfully careful to state
the limits of what he says he knows. Asked, for instance, if
any of the four alien races supposed to be on earth were
friendly, Cooper said that he, too, had heard this said, but
that none of the documents he allegedly saw during his years
in Navy intelligence had any information about it.
But when he talked about politics, he seemed ready to
assert almost anything at all. Which might suggest, as one
*possible* hypothesis, that he really does have authentic
UFO information. But -- as an old-fashioned, churchgoing,
and above all patriotic American -- he was so severely
disturbed by his experience of government deceit that now,
with no evidence at all, he sees conspiracies everywhere.

While I'm not involved in anything secret, I do work for the gvt and
there is no question that there is a mentality of not telling the
public anything you don't have to unless you just happen to feel like
telling. Even the most innoccuous stuff can be treated like it would
be a disaster if it were made available to the public. The basic
attitude is that the less anyone outside knows then the less they can
attack you for.

From: paranet!f19.n19.z1.FIDONET.ORG!Bryon.Smith
Subject: Radar
Date: 8 Nov 89 15:18:00 GMT

Recently I talked with a fellow who works for the Navy who told me of an
F-14 fighter that had some abnormal problems with the radar. He told me
this fighter was picking up and tracking objects that appeard to be solid
obects moving through the sky, the catch to it was that no one else was able
to pickup those same objects. None of the other jets in flight with this
F-14 were able to see those same objects, and another catch was those
objects were moving at speeds around M5. The Pilots of that plane said they
had never seen anything like it, those blips on the radar acted like solid
targets and not like a glitch on the radar. A great deal of effort was put
into the system in order to figure it out and a number of components were
changed out but still the "blips" appeard on the radar screen. They sent
the jet off to another military location and had some other experts work on
it and when it came back it no longer picked up those extra blips.

Could it be that this radar system either had been accidently equipped with
a system that was able to track UAOs ? Something the government (heads)
know about and are able to track using special equipment attached to their
radars ? Could it be a flaw in the radar that allowed it to pickup objects
that had radar invisibility to normal radar systems ?

I also heard the Austrailians have developed a new radar system that is able
to detect stealth fighters as easly as it does any other fighter. If this
is true then stealth is obsolete before it gets in the air. Why spend
billions on it when it has no advantage.

Anyone out there have any ideas that might explane or answer any of this ?

...Bryon

that but souldn't prove anything by it. Fummy to hear it happens to
others, does anybody else have some observation to add?
