Subject: Hausdorff distance-based matching code available.
The source code to the Hausdorff distance model-based recognition code
that Dan Huttenlocher and I (and others) have developed is now
available. It is in ftp.cs.cornell.edu:pub/wjr/Hausdorff.tar.gz
(you'll need GNU zip to uncompress it). This system performs matching
based on binary images, typically dense images like Canny edges,
quickly and reliably.
This code implements the systems described in
D.P. Huttenlocher, G.A. Klanderman, and W.J. Rucklidge,
"Comparing images using the Hausdorff distance.", IEEE Transactions on
Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 15(9):850-863, September 1993.

Subject: Survey: parallel processing accelerator
Hi,
I hope you can spare a little time with a survey on parallel
processing accelerator board for image process, computer vision,
computer graphics and visualisation I am conducting.
The specification of accelerator modules (hardware and software) based
on massively parallel processing technologies is considered for a
variety of applications in image processing and computer graphics. It is
envisaged that the modules will offer flexible interfaces that allow them
to be used with workstation and PC environments.
To specify and design such accelerator modules responsive to the
user requirements, some feed back from potential users is required.
For this I request your help.
Instead of posting the questionnaire to this newsgroup in an ASCII
form (I personally find it very difficult to fill in such form) I
have created the questionnaire using HTML and can be accessed using
WWW. So to complete the questionnaire, please point your URL to
<A HREF="http://http2.brunel.ac.uk:8080/~eesrzzh2/survey.html>Survey</A>
Your help with this project is most appreciated.
Regards,
Zahid.

Subject: Person Identification System using eyes iris
I am working in the field of image processing and recognition.
We created person identification system EIS, that automatically
identificates a person by the eye's iris with high reliability.
Some informations about EIS:
1.Recognition time of eye (using PC 486 DX 2 computer) - 5 second;
2.Probability of erroneous recognition < 0.000001% (using one eye),
< 0.000000000001% (using two eyes)
3.Eye iris recognition >97%.
(3% is not recognised through winking, moving of pupil, e.g. due to incorrect
actions of user. In this case procedure of the recognition must be repeated).
We are seeking for persons, which are interesting in this problem too.
If You have some interest in our system, we will be able to send You
more informations.
We would be very thankful to get Your opinion about our system.
With great respect Algimantas Malickas

CALL FOR PAPERS
International KRUSE Symposium
___ Knowledge Retrieval, Use, and Storage for Efficiency ___
University of California, Santa Cruz
August 11-13 1995
IMPORTANT DATES
submission postmark deadline February 13, 1995
notification of acceptance April 12, 1995
camera-ready copy June 12, 1995
THEME
The symposium will provide a forum for exploring current research in
artificial intelligence, cognitive science, and databases that pertains
to the organization, encoding and retrieval of logical and complex
objects. The symposium will draw together researchers from diverse
disciplines as well as practitioners engaged in developing real
object-oriented term classification systems. Mathematical and
Graph-Theoretic approaches will be favoured over those approaches based
on analogy with human cognitive processes, though mathematical
discussions of such processes will be appropriate. The basic questions
to be addressed include
o classification of objects in a taxonomy: systemic classification,
semantic indexing, partial-order sorting, description identification,
and taxonomy maintenance.
o efficient order, lattice, graph, and code theoretic operations on objects:
subsumption, generalization, specialization, least common generalization,
and greatest common specialization.
o advanced uses of taxonomies: knowledge compression, knowledge compilation,
and knowledge evolution.
o using classified knowledge: classification as problem solving,
classification as constraint satisfaction, and exploiting abstraction.
o scalable techniques for large object databases
o integration of data and knowledge base technologies
The symposium will maintain a balance between theoretical issues and
descriptions of implemented systems providing a balance between theory and
practice. The focus of the symposium is on efficiency of retrieval, use
and storage.

CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT
+++++++++++++++++++++++
Photonex '94 Conference and Tutorials on
'Implementing Optics in Measurement, Monitoring and Control -
Practical Solutions for Industry'
The Programme and Booking Form for the third Photonex event,
which is being held at the Kettering Arena, Kettering,
Northamptonshire, UK on 19-20 October, is now available from the
Conference Organiser. The two-day event incorporates an
exhibition, a conference on the theme: 'Implementing Optics in
Measurement, Monitoring and Control - Practical Solutions for
Industry' and several half-day tutorials.
Historically optical technologies have been considered for
off-line applications, typically in the laboratory. Now,
however, "the availability of compact, robust, high quality
optical systems means that precision optical measurements are no
longer confined to the laboratory", says Dr D J Westland, ERA
Technology. "Nowadays, optical technologies provide real-time
condition monitoring and quality checking on the production
line, providing high yields and reduced production costs".
In addition to developments in optical component design and
manufacture leading to increased performance and reliability,
advances in enabling technologies, such as image processing,
have resulted in a strong demand for the benefits of optical
technologies to be exploited in industry. In support of this, R
J Smith, ERA Technology, comments that "the trend for increasing
performance and falling costs in camera and processor
technology, will bring more sophisticated applications of image
processing within the reach of industry".
Now is the time to be looking to optical technologies to provide
practical solutions for industry.
The Conference
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The 'Implementing Optics in Measurement, Monitoring and Control
- Practical Solutions for Industry' programme focuses on
optical developments in industry and includes presentations,
with case studies, describing how optical technologies are being
integrated with existing electrical, mechanical and electronic
systems. The following areas are specifically addressed:
on-line condition monitoring, safety issues for optics in
industrial environments, applications of laser and optical fibre
systems, surface and 3-D inspection, machine control and the
need for standardisation. The conference will also examine
developments in optical techniques and how integrating optics
can help achieve business objectives. The programme includes
papers form Lucas Control Systems, Erwin Sick GmbH, Pepperl &
Fuchs Ltd, Cambridge Consultants Ltd, NIRSystems Inc, NAC Europe
and British United Shoe Machinery Ltd. The Programme and
Booking Form is now available from the Conference Organiser.
The Tutorials
