Subject: Calibrated Camera Lenses?

Does anyone know of any companies that provide motorized calibrated
( in zoom and focus ) camera lenses?

Could you please let us know. We need such lenses for the work we are
currently doing in computer vision.

Thanks in advance

Mark.

I'd like to post this notification of available research funding to
comp.ai.vision. Funding sources are the US government and Martin
Marietta Corporation - this is not an advertisement in any way.
Anyone interested should reply to the addresses listed at the end of
the note.

The RADIUS IU Technology Acquisition Process

I. The Selection Process

The purpose of this document is to define the format for describing IU
algorithms for review by the government sponsors and RADIUS (Research
and Development for Image Understanding Systems) personnel for funding
of potential application and integration in the RADIUS Testbed. The
scope of application for RADIUS IU technology is summarized in three
papers:
Mundy, J. and Vrobel, P., "The Role of IU Technology in RADIUS
Phase II"
Hoogs, A., "Model-Supported Exploitation as as Framework
for Image Understanding"
Gerson, D. and Wood, S., "RADIUS Phase 2: The RADIUS Testbed
System"
Any or all of these may be obtained in hardcopy or softcopy upon
request to one of the persons listed below.

The selection process begins with researchers submitting brief
proposals according to the format specified below. Submissions are
reviewed by the IU Advisory Committee, resulting in recommended
invitations to present at RADIUS Development Workshops (RDW's). Based
on the RDW presentations, funding levels for specific algorithms will
be determined by the government sponsors and the RADIUS team.
Throughout this process, the sponsors will encourage active discussion
with principal investigators about algorithm approach and
capabilities.

The RADIUS effort continues for the next three years; there will be
opportunities now and in the future for researchers to obtain various
levels of funding for algorithm evaluation, modification and
integration.

II. Algorithm Integration Funding

Selected algorithms will be incorporated into the RADIUS testbed for
evaluation on operational imagery. For these algorithms, funding will
be supplied as necessary to modify the algorithm to satisfy conditions
of the RADIUS environment or to extend its scope to incorporate the
context support of the RADIUS testbed.

The first type of funding is the RADIUS Technology Initiative (RTI),
funded by the US Government. RTI's are intended to support the
enhancement and adaptation of promising research into the RADIUS
framework. Candidate research should be at a demonstrated stage of
maturity such that results could be incorporated into RADIUS within
one year. RTI grants are expected to be a minimum of $50k, and may
be larger than $100k.

A second funding source is the Seed Contract, sponsored by Martin
Marietta. Seed Contracts are intended to support the porting of
existing, coded algorithms to the RADIUS Common Development
Environment so that they may be evaluated in the RADIUS Testbed. Seed
Contracts may also support the self-evaluation of a promising
algorithm on specified test data. The algorithms targeted by Seed
Contracts should be easily adaptable to the Model-Supported
Exploitation framework and directly applicable to RADIUS without
significant enhancement. The approximate level of funding for Seed
Contracts is $10k - $20k.

III. Algorithm Description

The submission of algorithm descriptions should be in accordance with
the following format.

Page 1

Title - An appropriate name for the algorithm or system
Principal Investigator(s)
Overview - General nature of the algorithm and its
intended application, e.g., segmentation,
change detection, model construction, ...
Maturity - A brief description of the history of the
algorithm or system, e.g., initially
developed in 1987 with a major
extension in 1992. Range and quantity
of test data used to evaluate the algorithm.
Principle of Operation - The key technical ideas
used in the algorithm and its unique
considerations leading to robust performance.
Context Assumptions - The site model in RADIUS can
provide an extensive amount of contextual
information both in the form of geometric
constraints and radiometric calibration.
Indicate the assumptions about context used
in the design of the algorithm.

Page 2 - A summary of results in terms of image displays,
tables, segmentation and model overlays, etc.
Worst case and typical case examples are strongly
encouraged.

Realistic test imagery is available at no cost via anonymous ftp.

IV. How to Submit

Please send a copy of your algorithm description in postscript by
email to each of the following:

Don Gerson (ORD) - dgerson@reston.mdso.vf.ge.com
Anthony Hoogs (Martin Marietta) - hoogs@mdso.vf.ge.com
Joe Mundy (GE-CRD) - mundy@crd.ge.com

Any of these persons may be contacted concerning any questions about
RADIUS, integration funding or other related issues.

The deadline for the initial round of submissions is September 1,
1994. The principal investigators of selected algorithms will be
notified via email by September 15, 1994 and are expected to present
at the first RDW on October 5, 1994 at Martin Marietta in Valley
Forge, PA. Proceedings will be compiled and distributed to attendees;
presenting researchers are expected to bring a short paper describing
their research to the RDW. Travel expenses to and from RDW's will be
provided for presenting researchers.

Further submissions will be solicited within the next year. Research
not selected for the initial RDW may be deferred to a later meeting.
Anyone interested in submitting research for review now or at a later
date should attend the RDW to learn about RADIUS and related research.
Presentation at the RDW is by invitation of ORD and Martin Marietta.
