Subject: SAI DATA

Dear Colleagues,
I am working on the problem of improving the
resolution of the reconstructed image, given a
sparse data. Can any one of you give me a
sensor array data ( preferably acoustical hologram data)
of an 2D-object?
My email address is speech@iitm.ernet.in

Thanking you in advance

Post-doctoral Research Position
Information Integration Laboratory
Department of Electrical Engineering
Ecole de technologie superieure
Montreal, Canada

A post-doctoral position in Computer Vision and Artificial Intelligence is
presently available at the Department of Electrical Engineering of the Ecole
de Technologie Superieure, Montreal (Canada). Candidates in all domains of
computer vision and AI are invited to apply. A Ph.D. in electrical engineering
or computer science is required. Experience with expert systems and/or neural
networks would be a definite asset. Interest in knowledge representation and
acquisition is also desirable.

The candidate will participate in a research project aimed at developing a
vision interface for the Soar cognitive architecture. This interface will be
based on conventional image processing functions as well as image processing
neural networks. The Department is young, but successful in attracting research
funding. It is small, but big enough to support a significant range of research
interests. The atmosphere is friendly and informal. A one year position is
offered, renewable for a second year upon agreement by both parties. The
starting date is on or after September 1, 1993.

Informal enquiries may be made to Dr. Daniel Crevier by e-mail
(crevier@ele.etsmtl.ca) or phone (514 289-8800 #7506). Applications should
include a resume and the names of two referees and should be sent to:

Dr. Daniel Crevier,
Department of Electrical Engineering,
Ecole de Technologie Superieure,
4750 Henri-Julien, Montreal (Quebec),
Canada, H2T 2C8.

Computer Vision Guest Scientist Position
available in
Munich Germany at SIEMENS Central Research Labs

SIEMENS Central Research is situated in Munich in the southern part of
Germany. More than a thousand researchers do basic and applied
research in many fields of computers science and electrical
engineering.

Our project is concerned with developing a computer vision system for
recognizing human hand gestures in real time. We already have two
prototypes for recognizing three-dimensional hand position,
orientation and simple gestures in real time. The prototypes have been
interfaced to a virtual environment system. Current research focuses
on extending the system to recognize additional features like
fingertips and define a set of more complex three dimensional hand
gestures. We are currently using neural network and model-based vision
techniques but this could change.

The successful candidate will contribute to this research topics. This
includes both scientific research and building working prototypes.
Applicants should possess a PhD in Computer Science, Engineering or a
related field by the time the position starts. Background should be
in Computer Vision with strong programming skills. Experience in
real-time vision is highly desirable. Knowledge in Human Computer
Interface, Gesture Recognition, Computer Graphics, or Virtual Reality
Techniques would be helpful.

The position is available starting in October 1. 1993 for a year
extendable to two years.

Interested applicants should send a resume and representative
publications to: (Only those who have the required background should
apply)

Please note the early closing date. If it is possible to do so before 9 July
please, please, otherwise we will consider anything that comes in but
obviously with diminishing chances.

Thanks,

University of Bath

School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering

Lecturer in Information Systems Engineering

The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to research in
information processing and to participate in the teaching of the BEng/MEng
programs run by the School, particularly those areas concerned with computing
and software engineering. Applications from those possessing a first degree
with significant mathematical content and a PhD earned in either signal and image
processing or high performance computing, preferably in combination, are
particularly welcome. A postdoctoral record including grants earned and
publications achieved is considered desirable.

Salary: Lecturer Grade A UK Pounds 13,601 - 18,855
Lecturer Grade B UK Pounds 19,642 - 25,107

The appointment level will depend on qualifications and experience.

Application forms and further particulars are available from Peter J Hill,
Director of Personnel, University of Bath, Claverton Down, Bath BA2 7AY, England
Tel. +44 - 225 - 826026; Fax +44 - 225 - 826559), quoting reference 93/91.

Closing Date for Applications: 8 July 1993 (but see below)

Additional notes provided to the e-mail version of this advert
by Professor D M Monro:

If you receive this by electronic newsletter, after the closing date, please
send a full CV and supporting statement as soon as possible.

Lecturer Grade A is the career equivalent of Assistant Professor
(except that we don't routinely throw them out after five years)

Lecturer Grade B is the career equivalent of Associate Professor

The salary figures have to be considered in relation to the cost of living in
this area and in that respect are much better that an overseas applicant
(or someone from London) might surmise simply by converting currencies.
Not to mention quality of life; we have the best pubs.

Bath is a beatiful perfectly preserved Georgian city in southwest England,
which is one of only two World Heritage Sites in England, the other being
Stonehenge, only 30 miles away. (Georgian is named after George III, famous as
the patron of Handel, and also for blowing it 1776). Tourists know Bath for its
superbly preserved Roman Baths. It is surrounded by beautiful countryside and
has an excellent climate by UK standards.

The University of Bath is relatively new, founded in 1966, but according
to ratings recently published is one of the leading research institutions
in the UK.

The group the new Lecturer will be joining is active in image coding
by DCT and Fractal Transforms, and is hoping through this appointment to
become involved in Wavelet coding as well.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me as
d.m.monro@bath.ac.uk, but please do not telephone me.
