Subject: help wanted: focusing images

Somebody suggested I try this newsgroup, so here goes...

I am involved in a project where we want to digitally focus a
digitized out of focus image. Can anybody tell me what work has
been done in this area? Is there any public domain software that
does this sort of thing?

Please email to behnkedj@rosevc.rose-hulman.edu

Subject: Digital Cameras

I would like to know if there is someone out there making digital
cameras which one can plug in directly to the computer.

The most common camera configuration uses a TV camera, converts the
image into NTSC (PAL, SECAM) signal, sends the signal over a wire to
a digitizer on the computer, which then digitizes the image.

This is NOT what I was interested in.

I need a system which bypasses the NTSC signal, etc. I want the digital
images from the CCD on the camera going directly to the computer.

Does anyone out there make such a device?

Part of 1993 SPIE/SPSE Symposium on Electronic Imaging
January 31 - February 5, 1993, San Jose, California, USA

The large variety of imaging modalities for exploration of objects of
biomedical interest has led to the necessity for solving many problems
related to the specific characteristics of the radiation and sensing
apparatus used. Acquired biomedical images typically suffer from
degradation related to the physical limitations of the imaging device.
These degradations serve to complicate the generic goals of analysis
and interpretation. This conference is devoted to the presentation of
new techniques directed towards the improved interpretation
(interactive or automated) of biomedical images obtained from
practical systems. Papers are solicited which detail methods for
reconstructing images from partial information, for correcting image
defects, or for effectively extracting/analyzing/interpreting
practical images of biomedical interest.

Papers are invited in the following and related areas:

Biomedical Image Processing
- Image Reconstruction
- Image Restoration and Enhancement
- Feature Enhancement and Extraction in Biomedical Images
- Biomedical Image Analysis and Interpretation
- Multi-Dimensional Biomedical Image Processing
- Motion Analysis in Biomedical Images
- Multi-Modality Imaging
- Microscopy Imaging
- Knowledge-Based Methods

Special sessions on
- Three-Dimensional Microscopy
- Image Processing for Mammography Applications

Dear Colleague

Henri Maitre and I (as one of the invited lecturers) are in charge of a Summer School in Digital Picture Processing which will
be held from 10 August to 4 September in Les Houches in the heart of the
French Alps.

The topics of this summer school covers the modern trends of digital picture
processing, from low-level to interpretation. The lecturers are taken among
well-known specialists from all over the world : Ms Borgefors and Preteux,
Mr Azencott, Biemond, Kasvand, Labit, Mallat, Schmitt, Zamperoni. The
attenders are selected in order to facilitate exchange of ideas and
experience.

The summer school is located in an isolated cottage, besides Mont Blanc,
near Chamonix. Most of the attenders and the Professors are hosted together
in this cottage.

Some students may still apply for this Summer School, if they come from the
following countries : US, Canada, Great Britain, Germany, Holland, Denmark,
Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Greece. They could be seniors, Ph'D or advanced
students with a good background in mathematics, computer science. Beside the
exceptionnal quality of the lecturers, and the excellent working conditions,
some strong points of this summer-school have also to be pointed out which may
be determining :
- cost is quite low (for a full month it may be compared to ... 1 day of an
advanced formation !) i. e. approximately 3500 FF or 600 US$
- financial supports may be offered for students or Ph'D,
- travelling facilities may be obtained via NSF for American citizens .

These exceptional facilities are the result of a NATO support which may allow
to sustain the Summer School. This support is tighten to the number of
participants from various Nato countries. Some of these countries are not so
well represented to day, and I would appreciate if you could present candidates.
I may send more complete information either by phone or by mail.

Many thanks for your help
yours
