RESEARCH ASSOCIATE POSITION IN STEREOPSIS
A three-year position is available at the Smith-Kettlewell Eye
Research Institute, San Francisco, for research in advanced aspects of
human stereoscopic depth processing. The project has three main parts:
development of a computational model of the stereoscopic process taking
into account the psychophysical dependence on image contrast; studies
with stereoscopic stimuli which dissociate the disparity profile from
the luminance profile, allowing separate exploration of the properties
of each processing level; and studies of disparity processing channels
using stereoscopic adaptation in dynamic random-element stereograms.
Smith-Kettlewell offers an excellent environment for visual studies
and the opportunity to collaborate in many related fields of research.
The available equipment includes Macintosh IIfx computers and
possibly a Sun Workstation. Experience is required in psychophysical
techniques, mathematical modeling and C programming on the Macintosh.
It is anticipated, on the basis of funding priorities, that this
position will become available for three years starting February 1st,
1991, with the potential for continuation beyond that time. Salary
level is up to $30,000 p.a. for qualified candidates, with a generous
benefit package. Smith-Kettlewell is an Affirmative Action/Equal

CALL FOR PAPERS
The Center For Neural Engineering of the university of Southern
California invites all students interested in Emotions to submit a
paper to be eventually presented during a one-day Workshop (of a date
t.b.a. at the End of February 1991). The Workshop is opened to
Graduate students (MA,MS,PhD) and College Seniors irrespective to
their major (faculty will only be considered for publication), having
pursued (or pursuing) research activities on such aspects of Emotions
as:
- The nature of Emotion
- The physiology of Emotion
- The perception of Emotions
- The relations between Emotion and Cognition
- Developemental aspects of Emotion
- Artificial Intelligence models of Emotions
- Neural network models of Emotions
- Philosophical issues of Emotion and reductionism
- ...
Applicants should send a 2 page summary of the proposed paper and a
letter of motivation in which they state their status, major,
interests, name, address and telephone number (for reply).
