Ancient Egypt and Pre-Columbian America: so distant, yet so similar
The ancient Egyptians in Africa and the ancient pre-Inca and Inca cultures in South America developed on opposite sides of the globe. According to our knowledge, the two cultures have never come into contact with each other, yet they mysteriously share the same iconographic system, architecture, symbolism, mythology and religion. Victorian era scholars, faced with this enigma, concluded that both cultures were daughters of a previous mother civilization spread across the planet: Atlantis.
There are many disconcerting and unresolved analogies that connect ancient Egypt with pre-Columbian cultures, despite the fact that they developed on opposite sides of the planet, with an ocean in between.
Faced with this enigma, scholars of the Victorian era became convinced that both cultures had inherited the same iconographic, symbolic, architectural and religious system from the same previous 'mother civilization', now lost in the distant past of history.
Inspired by Plato's stories, the Victorians called this ancient global civilization Atlantis, a hypothesis that well explained the parallels between Ancient Egypt and Pre-Columbian Civilizations.
Today, as is well known, the scholarly establishment rejects the Atlantis hypothesis with heated hostility, relegating it to the category of myth and legend, so that the disconcerting parallels between the two civilizations are simply ignored.
Thanks to the work of Richard Cassaro, who presents a long series of images that highlight the similarities, we offer some of those that in our opinion are the most interesting.
Pyramids
Both cultures built stone pyramids in different places across the land, aligning them with the cardinal points. In both cases, the deceased were buried inside.
Mummies
Both cultures practiced the mummification of their deceased, a symbol of life after death. The mummies were kept inside the pyramids, often with offerings of food and personal items. Both cultures believed in life after death.
Golden funerary masks
Both cultures placed gold masks on the high-ranking deceased, symbolizing the new dignity gained upon entering eternity, the other side of the veil, the highest home in the heavens which is eternal and spiritual, unlike earthly life which is temporary and material.
Precise positioning of stones
Both cultures were able to carve and place stone with extreme precision. The constructions are surprisingly similar.
Trapezoidal doors
Both cultures made trapezoid-shaped doors, a symbol of upward spiritual progress. This type of figure is present in many ancient cultures. Furthermore, in both cultures there are symmetrical snakes on the trapezoidal architrave of the doors, perhaps to represent the idea of balancing opposing energies, a result achieved by crossing the threshold of the temple.
Elongated skulls
Both cultures practiced the enigmatic cranial lengthening of their children. This seemingly bizarre practice is still being debated by scholars. However, since it is difficult to solve, we tend to ignore it.
Solar Religion
Both cultures used the solar symbol as a central part of their religious system. In Egypt the solar deity was Ra, in Peru it was Inti. In both cultures, the solar deity represents yourself, your soul. You are an eternal divine sun. You voluntarily wanted to incarnate in matter, but now you experience an amnesia that has made you forget your true spiritual Self: you have lost your way home.
Symmetrical animals
Both cultures used symmetrically placed animals to evoke the power of the Third Eye. Both believed it was possible to awaken the mind's eye, a spiritual symbol of enlightenment.
Megalithic architecture
Both cultures created impressive megalithic constructions, with stones weighing hundreds of tons perfectly placed.
Floating deities
Both cultures depicted mysterious deities capable of floating weightlessly.
In Richard Cassaro's article there are numerous other examples of how profoundly similar these two cultures are, despite never having come into contact with each other.
Victorian scholars believed that after the destruction of Atlantis, two cultures on opposite sides of the planet had preserved their culture and traditions.
But apparently, conventional archeology prefers to ignore, rather than investigate ...
