Final Call for Papers -- Extended Deadline
Post-ICLP'95 Workshop on Abstract Interpretation of Logic Languages
Shonan Village Center, Kanagawa, Japan
June 17 or 18, 1995

Abstract interpretation is a generic approach to data flow analysis.
Its central concept is to approximate the concrete execution of a
program using an abstract version of the execution. The importance of
abstract interpretation comes from its ability to allow systematic
design of correct data-flow analysis. Considerable research has been
undertaken investigating the use of abstract interpretation for
logic-based languages, in particular for (constraint) logic
programming. Abstract interpretation is believed to be an essential
part in developing efficient implementations which are able to bridge
the gap between the high-level language and the machine. Most new
logic-based language developments incorporate some form of abstract
interpretation based data-flow analysis.

The main purpose of this workshop is to bring together researchers
using abstract interpretation in different areas of logic languages,
and give the logic programming community an integrated idea of recent
advances in the field. We would also like to encourage papers with a
practical orientation. We take this to mean not only papers showing
practical uses of abstract interpretation, but also those papers with
an explicitly practical impact, e.g., those allowing an improvement in
efficiency or accuracy, broadening the possibilities of abstract
interpretation, defining new domains interesting for new applications.

Topics of Interest

The topics of interest for this workshop include, but are not limited
to:
Abstract interpretation frameworks and related generic tools
Compilation
Combination of analyzers
Experimental evaluation of aspects of abstract interpretation
Applications of data-flow analysis
Analysis domains for logic languages
Analysis of concurrent languages

GENERAL INFORMATION

The Summer School

The Seventh European Summer School in Logic, Language and
Information will be held at the Biology Faculty of Barcelona
University from August 14th to 25th. The School is organized
under the auspices of the European Foundation of Logic,
Language and Information (Folli), jointly by Universitat de
Barcelona, Universitat Rovira i Virgili, Universitat Autonoma
de Barcelona, and Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya.
The previous Summer Schools took place at Rijks universiteit
Groningen in the Netherlands in 1989, at the Katholieke
Universiteit Leuven in Belgium in 1990, at the Universitat
Saarlandes, Saarbrucken in Germany in 1991, at the
University of Essex Colchester in the United Kingdomin 1992,
at the Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa in
Portugal in 1993, and at the Copenhagen Business School in
Denmark in 1994. For these Schools financial support was
derived from a variety of sources, including the Commision
of the European Community, through the ERASMUS programme and
the DG XIII, Research Networks, National Research Councils,
and industrial sponsors. The same kind of support
is expected for the 1995 School.

The main focus of the Summer School is the interface between
logic, linguistics and computation, where it concerns the
modelling of human linguistic and cognitive abilities. The
1995 School programme will include courses, workshops, and
symposia covering a variety of topics within six areas
of interest: Logic, Language, Computation, Logic and
Computation, Computation and Language, Language and Logic.

Courses will be cast at both introductory and advanced levels.
Introductory courses are designed to familiarize students
with new fields and do not presuppose any background knowledge,
while advanced courses are designed to allow participants to
acquire more specialized expertise in areas they are already
familiar with. Workshops will be chaired by an expert in the
field and will provide an opportunity for PhD students and other
young researchers to present their work and gain informed feedback
and useful contacts. Symposia will typically consist of a series
of presentations on a timely topic by people active in the
relevant areas. Both workshops and symposia are intended to
encourage collaboration and cross fertilization of ideas by
stimulatingin-depth discussion of issues which are at the
forefront of current research in the field. There will also be
a series of invited evening lecturers by well-known experts
in their field.

Computational Linguistics and Chinese Language Processing

Call for Papers

Computational Linguistics and Chinese Language Processing
invites submission of original research papers in the area of
computational linguistics in general and Chinese (natural)
language processing in particular. Contributions can be
written either in English or Chinese. English will be the
primary language of this journal for its international
readership. A 600-word extended abstract is required of all
Chinese contributions. Submissions are welcomed in the
following three categories:

Papers: Submissions in this category should report
significant new research results in computational linguistics
or new system implementation involving significant theoretical
and/or technological innovation. There is no strict length
limitation on this category but it is suggested that
manuscripts not exceed 40 double-spaced pages.

Survey Papers: Submissions in this category are either
invited by the editorial board or voluntary. They should
offer a critical overview of either 1) the state of arts of a
certain sub-field of computational linguistics or Chinese
language processing, or 2) of existing systems and/or
technologies for a particular natural language application.
Page limitation of this category is the same as above.

Book/Thesis Review: Submissions in this category should not
exceed one journal page; i.e. 600 English words/ Chinese
characters inclusive of titles. The theses reviewed must be
completed within one year before the time of submission. An
extended abstract can also be submitted by the author if it is
endorsed by an editorial board member.

All contributions will be anonymously reviewed by at least two
reviewers, with exception of the reviews, which will be
reviewed by only one reviewer.

Electronic submissions are required. Submissions should be in
postscript files conforming to the Journal of Computational
Linguistics style. Submissions should be sent to the editor-
in-chief at
clp@hp.iis.sinica.edu.tw
Supplementary hardcopy submission is accepted at Computational
Linguistics and Chinese Language Processing, Professor Keh-
jiann Chen, Institute of Information Science, Academia Sinica,
Nankang, Taipei, Taiwan 115

Computational Linguistics and Chinese Language Processing will
be published both electronically and in hardcopy. Any paper
accepted by the editorial board will be put at the WWW site
and considered published. Hardcopy publication will be twice
annually in june and december and will be the compilation of
the papers electronically published in previous six months.
The first issue will appear in june, 1996.

Computational Linguistics and Chinese Language Processing is
published by the Computational Linguistics Society of R.O.C.
(ROCLING).
