NINTH INTERNATIONAL MACHINE LEARNING CONFERENCE

CALL FOR PAPERS

The Ninth International Machine Learning Conference will be held at the
University of Aberdeen, Scotland during July 1-3, 1992. The conference
aims to bring together researchers from all areas of Machine Learning.
The conference will include presentations of refereed papers, invited
talks, and poster sessions.

The University of Aberdeen is one of the oldest universities in the
United Kingdom (founded 1494). The conference will be held on the
King's College site, dominated by the original university chapel.

The deadline for submitting papers is January 9, 1992.

Review Criteria

In order to ensure high quality papers, each submission will be reviewed
by two members of the program committee and judged on clarity,
significance, and originality. All submissions should contain new
work, new results, or major extensions to prior work. In addition to
reporting advances in current areas of machine learning, authors are
encouraged to report results on exploring novel learning tasks.

* Author's names
* Primary author's address, telephone and FAX numbers, email address
* An abstract of about 200 words

The cover page should also give three keywords that describe the
research. Examples of keywords include:

PROBLEM AREA GENERAL APPROACH EVALUATION CRITERIA
Concept learning Genetic algorithms Empirical evaluation
Learning and planning Empirical methods Theoretical analysis
Language learning Explanation-based Psychological validity
Learning and design Connectionist
Machine discovery Analogical reasoning

Each copy of the paper should be clearly legible. Good quality print is
required (Dot-matrix printout is not acceptable unless truly of letter
quality.) Papers are limited to 15 double-spaced pages (including
figures and references), formatted with 12 point font, i.e.
approximately 4500 words. Electronic or FAX submissions WILL NOT BE
ACCEPTED.

Authors will be notified of acceptance by March 9 1992 and camera-ready
copy is due by April 9 1992.

Please send papers (4 copies) to:

PROPOSALS FOR INFORMAL WORKSHOPS

Proposals are invited for informal workshops in areas of interest to the
machine learning community. Workshops will be held on Saturday, July 4
1992 immediately after the conference. Proposals will be reviewed by
members of the organizing committee to give some overall coordination.
However, the detailed arrangements for workshop programmes will be the
responsibility of the workshop organizer(s); help with "local"
arrangements will be provided by the conference organizers.

Please send a 2 page proposal by November 15 1991, indicating the nature
of the proposed workshop, likely number of attendees, etc. to:
