Subject: FTP directory for papers from The Institute for the Learning Sciences

We've set up an anonymous FTP directory for papers here at ILS. It consists
mainly of papers that have appeared in or been submitted to various
conferences and workshops. Papers are in compressed postscript format. The
instructions for FTPing are the usual, with the following details:

Host: ils.nwu.edu (129.105.100.1)
Login: anonymous
Password: anonymous
Directory: pub/papers

The following are some of the papers that may be interesting to machine
learning people. Other areas of emphasis are planning and case-based
reasoning. The complete list is in the README file. Papers are likely to be
added over the next few months during the conference-submission season. Send
e-mail to krulwich@ils.nwu.edu with any questions. Enjoy!

Subject: WORKSHOP ON MACHINE LEARNING AT AI'92
Date: Thu, 12 Dec 91 9:41:59 EST

Announcement and Call for Papers

Machine Learning is one of the fast growing areas of Artificial
Intelligence. There is a number of people involved in Machine
Learning research in Canada. The goal of the workshop is to provide a
forum where Canadian researchers can exchange information about their
current and future projects, possibilities of collaboration, graduate
opportunities, applications, etc. Anyone active in the applications
or theoretical or experimental studies of machine learning and related
fields such as genetic algorithms, case-based reasoning and neural
nets is invited to participate. The emphasis of the workshop will be
on informal communication and exchange, hence no proceedings are
planned.

The workshop will be held May 12, 1992, in Vancouver, in conjunction
with AI'92, the Ninth Biennial conference of the Canadian Society for
Computational Studies of Intelligence (CSCSI).

The workshop will consist of presentations, discussions, and a panel on
applications of machine learning.

Attendance at the workshop will be by invitation only. Persons
interested in attending are requested to submit a short (maximum 500
words) description of their current work in Machine Learning. Those
interested in making a presentation should also submit an extended
abstract (maximum 2000 words) describing the proposed presentation. A
selection of the submitted material will be distributed to all
workshop attendees.

The organizers also invite suggestions for discussion topics. All
submissions are due on February 15, 1992, and should be sent to:

I am interested in literature/people dealing with machine learning in
image processing. My specific interest is in learning models of
objects, in order to recognize these objects in digital images.
Because I am a photogrammetrist, the kind of objects I am dealing with
are cultural ones, namely streets, houses, agricultural fields, etc.
to be recognized in aerial images.

I'm looking forward to any information.

Thank you! I've corrected the date in the article. However, some websites list January 1980 as the date of death.
