From: ackley@flash.bellcore.com (David H Ackley)
Subject: ERL video available

I have received several requests for copies of the "Learning from
natural selection in an artificial environment" video that I showed at
the ALife II Conference. Copies are available now, in exchange for a
blank VHS tape, T-20 or longer.

This is the original 18 minute "warts and all" video talk/demo of
the ERL algorithm in the AL simulated world --- winner of the
prestigious ALife II Conference "4-H prize." It is available in VHS
for NTSC only.

If you have already requested a copy of the tape I will hold one on
reserve for you for one month.

Send a blank tape and a return address by US mail to:

I would like to refer this list to an article in /Electronic Enginerring
Times/ (5/19/90, p. 37) by R. Colin Johnson entitled "Defining
Artificial Life Leads to Tough Goals". It results from interviews with
Peter Cariani at ALife-2 and Howard Pattee later on concerning their
ideas on the necessary theoretical basis of AL.
