Spicy Beef Stir-Fry with Shiitake Mushrooms and Celery

Ingredients:

  • 8 oz sirloin beef, thinly sliced
  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp white pepper powder
  • 1 Tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 Tbsp oil (for marinade)
  • 4 sticks celery, chopped
  • 3 scallions, chopped
  • 2 red chili peppers, chopped
  • 6 shiitake mushrooms, soaked and sliced
  • 1 Tbsp oil (for cooking)
  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • Pinch of white pepper powder
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1 tsp sesame oil

Instructions:

  • Cut 8 oz of sirloin beef into thin slices. In a bowl, combine 1 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 tsp sugar, 1/2 tsp white pepper powder, 1 Tbsp cornstarch, and 1 Tbsp oil. Marinate the beef in this mixture for a few hours.
  • Cut 4 sticks of celery, 3 scallions, and 2 red chili peppers into small pieces. Set aside.
  • Soak 6 shiitake mushrooms in water until soft. Remove stems and cut into small pieces. Set aside.
  • Heat 1 Tbsp of oil in a pan over medium heat. Add 1 Tbsp of minced garlic and sauté until fragrant. Add the marinated beef and shiitake mushrooms. Stir-fry for a few minutes. Add the cut celery and red chili pepper. Continue to stir-fry.
  • Add 1 Tbsp of soy sauce, 1 Tbsp of oyster sauce, 1 tsp of sugar, and a pinch of white pepper powder. Cook for another minute.
  • Pour in 1/2 cup of chicken broth and mix well. Add a cornstarch-water mixture to thicken the sauce to your desired consistency.
  • Add the cut scallions and 1 tsp of sesame oil. Stir well. Your Spicy Beef Stir-Fry with Shiitake Mushrooms and Celery is ready to be served. Enjoy!
