TELECONFERENCE WITH CEI
Last night was the eagerly awaited teleconference with Alex Amor, President
of CEI, on the Portal system. CEI was one of Commodore's principle distributors
and is a leading bidder for the Amiga line. The other leading bidder is
Commodore UK. The teleconference did not answer the question "who's going to
own the Amiga?" unfortunately. It DID turn up some interesting information.
CEI, like Commodore UK, is bidding on the entire line and also past products,
whatever that means. The earliest CEI could have more computers in the pipeline
is February, 95. From personal inquiries we know that's too late to save many
current Amiga dealers. They needed a good Christmas season to survive in most
cases. It's too late for that.
The good news is that apparently both top bidders plan to keep the line
intact and introduce new product. The complete line is currently seen as
the A1200, A4000, A4000T and CD32.
We will have in our possesion an edited transcript of the conference shortly.
It will be long, so if you want a copy, send e-mail to webb@malamute.med.ge.com
and I'll see you receive one, rather than sending a copy to all on this list.
At times there were 50 people in the conference. Attendees included former
Commodore engineers including Dave Haney, developer of the operating system,
and long time engineer Andy Finkel. Journalists included Jay Gross, Editor of
"AmiGadget", Tim Walsh of "AmigaWorld" and of course Royan and I representing
"Jumpdisk". There were also many professionals who use the computers to make
a living, as well as developers and dealers. As you might imagine, there were
many good questions, most of which got meaningful answers.

Thank you! I've corrected the date in the article. However, some websites list January 1980 as the date of death.
