About health and personal discovery
By Mr. Glenn Meder, Mr. Glenn Meder, Pure Water BrandDirector - US Sales
Before I get into this month's topic I'd like to thank the thousands of people who have signed up for the free Pure Water E-Newsletter. One thing that we all have in common is an understanding that it's up to ourselves to take care of ourselves! Health is an extremely important facet of our lives.
While we usually have an article from guest writers as the main topic, for this issue I'd like to submit an editorial on my own research on various health topics over the years. These discoveries have improved the quality of life for my family and myself. Some seem obvious, and some have taken considerable research to discover.
My goal is to give you ideas so you can do your own research in these areas if you are so inclined. We have no affiliation with any company mentioned below.
Asthma:
I am an asthmatic, and for years I have been using considerable amounts of ventolin and preventative inhalers for my asthma. I don't like taking medication if I can help it, so my constant need for my asthma medicine made me uncomfortable. About 6 months ago a friend loaned me a videotape on something called the Buteyko Technique.
The basic premise of the Buteyko Technique is that asthma is NOT a health problem, but rather is a natural defense of our body to over-breathing, or taking in too much oxygen! This tape explained in detail that asthma was a result of poor breathing habits, and all someone has to do is change these habits and they should notice a significant difference.
I tried the techniques and to my amazement and great satisfaction, they worked wonderfully! Six months later I have gone from using about 2 canisters of ventolin every month to less than 1 canister every 6 months! Before I would have minor asthma attacks 2 or 3 times a day, now I can go for weeks without ever getting asthma at all! This one discovery has been a dream come true.
Instead of explaining what the Buteyko Technique is, I suggest you check out the web-site www.buteyko.co.nz to find more information. All I did was view the videotape ($75). I know they also offer classes, but I don't have any experience with these.
Electro-Magnetic Radiation (EMR)
Another health problem that became a factor in my life recently was severe headaches every afternoon at work. I went to the doctor on more than one occasion, but they couldn't come up with any real suggestions. I went to the eye doctor thinking that it could have been my eyes, but my eyes were in perfect condition. I was running into a brick wall, until one of my friends told me about Electro-Magnetic Radiation.
EMR is an electric field that is generated by computers and any electric device, which some people are sensitive to. He showed me a little necklace he was wearing to protect himself against these EMR fields. It looked fishy to me, but there were some quite solid testimonials to back it up, so I tried it. I bought one of the necklaces for a little over a hundred dollars.
I was disappointed for the first few days because I didn't feel anything. But I kept wearing it and within a week my headaches were gone! I recommend looking at the web site www.clarus.com for the Q-link Necklace.
Although the necklace helped my headaches significantly, travel with my job now required that I carry a cell-phone. Immediately I found myself getting headaches again after talking on the cell-phone, even while wearing the Q-Link necklace. Apparently cell-phones put out very strong EMR for people who are sensitive to it.
I found a decent solution to this as well. There is a company that makes phone shields. They look like just a regular leather case for my cell-phone but it is embedded with a very thin wire mesh. Although it doesn't completely prevent the EMR, I definitely noticed a marked difference. The web site is located at www.goaegis.com.
Water
Obviously I have done a tremendous amount of research on water. I have come to a number of conclusions that are too numerous to go into in this letter, but I'll give you some highlights...
- Immediately when you get up in the morning drink a glass of water. I have found that this wakes me up and just makes me feel good. It's based in science too, since when we wake up in the morning we are usually dehydrated.
- Although I may make some people upset with this statement, I am absolutely convinced that the MAJORITY of doctors that I have come in contact with don't understand drinking water issues or proper treatment methods any more than the average person. For example, a pediatrician that I know in town tells mothers that it's absolutely fine to give a newborn baby tap water. Even our municipal water service warns that newborns and elderly should not drink the tap water! The moral: you are responsible for all aspects of your family's health!
- There is a good book out called "Your Body's Many Cries for Water!". The basic premise is that, as a society, we are chronically dehydrated. The author attributes many illnesses to simple chronic dehydration. My personal experiences coincide with the premise of the book, so I would recommend it.
- Water contamination is a real issue and anyone who says otherwise has not done the research. That being said, it's not just drinking water that you need to think about, but rather all of your CONSUMABLE water! Anything that goes into your body should be atrazine, chlorine, lead, arsenic and bacteria free. I use distilled water for drinking water, coffee, tea, soups, pasta, rice, baby formula, ice cubes and cooking vegetables.
I will leave you with this thought...
"Do your research. Don't just accept someone's perspective because they carry a title or position of authority. It is up to you to decide if something is the truth or not."

Aren't there minerals missing from distilled water that my body needs?
There is no doubt that the body needs minerals. This issue is perhaps the 'hottest' one regarding the use of distilled water. It is easy to find an equal number of 'authorities' or 'experts' on both sides of this controversial issue.
In short, virtually all nutritional and medical authorities agree that the body assimilates organic minerals from the daily food cycle. Where the authorities disagree is whether or not the body directly extracts any nutritional value from the minerals found in an inorganic source such as dissolved rocks, dirt, and stone found in tap or mineral waters.
Perhaps the best way we have found to sort out this problem is to evaluate various tap and mineral water sources around the world and determine the amount of inorganic minerals (by weight) which would be consumed by drinking an average of two liters of tap water daily. Then, we compare this number to the amount of minerals (by weight) found in a normal daily diet. Dr. Jon Kirschmann's Nutritional Almanac is one of several good sources for this data.
When these two sources of minerals are compared, the results are real eye-openers. On the average, over 95% of the major and trace minerals ingested daily (by weight) come from food (fruits, vegetables, animal products) - and less than 5% from drinking water.
The distilled water 'mineral issue' then can be focused into a much clearer question: Is it really smart to ingest all types of heavy metals, bacteria, chemicals used in water treatment processes, industrial and agricultural chemical residues, etc. simply to get that little additional percentage of daily mineral intake from water sources. We don't think so!
But don't just take our word for it, listen to what the experts say...
"The body's need for minerals is largely met through foods, not drinking water."
American Medical Journal
"The minerals which the human body needs that are in the water are insignificant to those in food... and anyone simply eating a varied diet, not even a balanced diet, could hardly suffer a mineral deficiency."
Dr. Henry A. Schroeder, Dartmouth Medical School
"Water hardness (inorganic minerals in solution) is the underlying cause of many, if not all, of the diseases resulting from poisons in the intestinal tract. These (hard minerals) pass from the intestinal walls and get into the lymphatic system, which delivers all of its products to the blood, which in turn, distributes to all parts of the body. This is the cause of much human disease."
Dr. Charles Mayo, world-renowned Mayo Clinic
"The only minerals that the body can utilize are the organic minerals. All other types of minerals are foreign substances to the body and must be eliminated. Distilled water is the only water that can be taken into the body without any damage to the tissues."
The Choice is Clear, by Dr. Allen E. Banik
"The greatest damage done by inorganic minerals - plus waxy cholesterol and salt - is to the small arteries and other blood vessels of the brain (75% water). Hardening of the arteries and calcification of the blood vessels starts on the day you start taking inorganic chemicals and minerals from the tap water into you bodies."
