CNN - Administration moves to ban gasoline additive
As many as 9,000 community water wells near leaking underground storage tanks in 31 states may be affected by contamination from MTBE, according to a study being published this week in the journal Environmental Science and Technology.

USA Today - Gasoline additive cleans air, fouls water
It smells like turpentine and spreads through water so quickly and thoroughly that a scant spoonful can foul an Olympic-sized swimming pool. MTBE, a widely used gasoline additive that makes cars burn cleaner, has posed a cruel dilemma: It's making the air cleaner, but it's polluting the water.

MSNBC - Glass half-empty
A new survey shows that Americans are flirting with dehydration by consuming too little water and too many beverages that rob the body of water.

Cleanup operations are under way in northern Romania, the site of a deadly cyanide spill in late January that left a trail of death along several major waterways in Eastern Europe. But the environmental disaster has affected more than fish and wildlife.

THE 10 Best Foods for Longevity

BY Eric Harr

One secret to optimum nutrition is this: know what foods are best for you and eat them more often. To lose weight and feel better, you don't need to spend a penny on weight-loss fads, exercise machines, pills, potions or lotions. It's as simple as this: eat wholesome foods that taste good to you, and exercise with more passion!

Here are ten of the healthiest foods you can eat:

  1. Tomatoes. These are a major source of the strong antioxidant, lycopene. Lycopene reduces the risk of cancer by 40%. Concentrated tomato sauces (fresh, wholesome pizza and pasta sauces) have five times more lycopene than fresh tomatoes.
  2. Olive Oil. Ancel Keys, a famous researcher, once declared olive oil the main dietary reason for remarkably low mortality rates among Mediterranean populations. Always choose extra-virgin, cold-pressed olive oil. It is well worth the extra expense.
  3. Red Grapes. Purple grape juice has four times the antioxidant activity of orange or tomato juice and yes, it's true: moderate consumption of red wine increases health and longevity!
  4. Nuts. Recent Harvard research found that eating 5 ounces of nuts a week can cut heart-attack deaths by 40% and helped prevent deadly irregular heartbeats. Nuts are high in fat, but most is the good type: monounsaturated and/or omega 3.
  5. Whole. Grains The more whole grains you eat, the lower your odds of death, a new University of Minnesota study suggests. Whole grains contain anticancer agents and help stabilize blood sugar and insulin, which may promote longevity.
  6. Salmon. (and other fatty fish) Contains high amounts of the type of fat - omega 3 - that performs miracles throughout the body, fighting virtually every chronic disease known. Aim for two servings per week.
  7. Blueberries. One of the highest foods in antioxidants. Powerful anti-aging properties, and just so darn delicious!
  8. Garlic. Arguably, the most powerful disease and ailment fighter on the planet.
  9. Spinach. This super health promoter is second among vegetables only to garlic in antioxidant capacity. It's also rich in folic acid, which helps fight cancer, heart disease and mental disorders.
  10. Tea. Once cup of green or black tea per day cuts heart-disease risk in half. Aim for fresh teas. The bottled and canned kind bring minimal health benefits. And, if you have a choice between black or green, go green. Now, it's time to take action on what you've read...

Because, if you exercise with passion, you'll live with passion! says Harr.

Distilled Water Tip

Pasta Products.....
Another application of distilled water is the cooking of pasta, macaroni, noodles, rice and other similar type of foods. These foods will absorb more distilled water than tap water. This gives these foods a fuller texture and flavor and there is less tendency for them to cling together.
