Contrary to what you think, Yin YOGA is more recent style created by Paul Griller in US at the end of 80s.
Yin YOGA starts from the Hatha Yoga tradition and it is adopted with a more slow and fluid rhythm for supporting deeply your mind and your body.
The purpose is helping in flexibility and meditative states focusing the working on the connectives tissues.
Yin Yoga concentrate its benefits more to the lower part of the body and we held the position for 1 or 3 minutes in order to well stretch our body and increase our flexibility.
If we are used to this practice we can hold the position also for 5 or 10 minutes.
It's incredible, isn't it?
