The Chupacabras
From the seventies to the two-year period 1994 - 1995, there was an increase in strange slaughters of animals, mostly goats. Who is the killer? There are those who speak of a mysterious animal that feeds on blood...
Introduction
The period from late 1994 through most of 1995 is an interesting time due to the intensification of a series of mysterious events, which had already occurred since the seventies. Between '94 and '95 events took place on the island of Puerto Rico, as well as areas of Mexico, Guatemala up to Florida (Miami in particular). These events attracted the attention mainly of ufologists and enthusiasts of the sector. In fact, the island of Puerto Rico (3.7 million inhabitants - 8,900 km2) is constantly at the center of probable and frequent ufological episodes. From the end of 1994, therefore, until November - December 1995 animals of all species (goats, sheep, dogs, cats, ducks, chickens, rabbits, horses) where killed by something that deprives them of blood through a very clear hole made on the body, most frequently on the neck. In some episodes, the animal's bodies have been inflicted with some mutilation by the beast.
The Chupacabras
The press was quick to define this being Chupacabras, i.e. Goatsucker, since among all the animals possible victims of the monster, goats seem to occupy a prominent place, as a source of blood or in any case of nourishment. According to some persons interested in the phenomenon, it would be more correct to define this being with the acronym EBA (= Anomalous Biological Entity).
First identikits of the Monster
Jorge Martin, researcher, ufologist and director of a specialized magazine, collected a series of testimonies that allowed him to draw up a first identikit with the relative modus operandi of the monster.
The Chpucabras appears to have a very large oval head, a pointed chin, the eyes are also oval and bright red in color. In the center of the face, two small nostrils appear sketchy. His arms would appear spindly and his hands would only have three clawed fingers. According to some witnesses, there are small pointed ears on the sides of the head, while grey/green hair covers the entire body of the Chupacabras. He walks almost upright and still on two feet. The typical gait is leaping and leaves canine-type footprints of about 10 centimeters.
His behavior is that of a typical predator: he demonstrates tactical intelligence, as well as high abilities to camouflage in the environment in which it is found. The victims attributed to the monster have three orifices (holes) on the neck, corresponding to the jugular. From these holes all the blood of the unfortunate victim is extracted.
This fact opens up a scientific dilemma. A bled body immediately becomes prey to the so-called rigor mortis which is the state of rigidity of corpses due to the cooling of the body. In a bled body rigor mortis occurs immediately as the blood also lacks the sarcolactic acid responsible for the mobility of the tissues. Well, although the bodies of the victims attributed to Chupacabras were completely bled to death, none of the bodies showed signs of rigor mortis, causing amazement and dismay among the doctors called to examine the carcasses. The little blood that could remain in the victim's tissues once removed showed the very strange property of not coagulating.
There are no unanimous opinions regarding the height of the being. From the testimonies collected it seems that the being in question has a height between sixty centimeters and one and a half meters. However, there are those who swear they have glimpsed - among the possible manifestations of the being - a bipedal shape over two meters high. The ufologist and researcher Martin thus described the wounds on the bodies of the animals:
"[...] they appear as a very clear hole of about 1 centimeter in diameter, usually three are found on the victim's neck arranged in a triangle, some once these wounds were found under the victim's jaw."
The testimonies
9 - 10 March 1995. An unidentified creature attacks and kills Mrs. Carballo's animals. 30 chickens and 2 goats are found with the unmistakable signs of this being's aggression. Mrs. Carballo testified that she glimpsed in her shadow, a figure similar to an ape standing on two legs, in front of her.
June 1995. One night, near El Yunque, a housewife was alarmed by the incessant barking of her little dog. She went outside to bring some food to the dog, she saw a dark gray figure running away. According to the lady, the being could not be traced back to any known animal species, it had a height of around 120 centimeters and an estimated weight of around 25/30 kg. An interesting detail is that according to the housewife, the being's eyes gave off a whitish light, like the headlights of a car.
End of 1995. One evening in the city of Gurabo, an event occurred that made its protagonist, Jesus Sanchez, state,
"I am still under the influence of what happened to me. I haven't been the same since that meeting."
The incident consisted of a terrible slaughter of rabbits, which had all the classic holes in their necks arranged in a triangle. A few evenings after the event, Sanchez found himself face to face with a dark silhouette of a horrible monster, which he managed to disorientate with the help of a flashlight.
Between January and April 1996 in Puerto Rico, thousands of animals died in circumstances similar to those previously exposed. For these facts Puerto Rico is considered as a specific destination of this mysterious being.
Early months of 1996. In Miami, Florida, at least 5 cases of collective killing of animals have similar characteristics to those that occurred in Puerto Rico. From the measurements carried out it was possible to state that the being had legs approximately 6 centimeters wide and 10.3 centimeters long.
March 1996. Events similar to those already exposed occurred in Los Angeles and Costa Rica. In the same month sightings of possible Chupacabras and killings of animals occurred in Matamoros (Mexico).
First days of May 1996. There is the bloodiest explosion of the story, many testimonies, especially from Mexicans who swear they have seen "the murderous vampire".
May 2, 1996. A farmer from the western part of the state of Jalisco was hospitalized with a neck wound that he swore had been inflicted by Chupacabras. However, this circumstance was neither denied nor proven. The farmer stated:
"that being had a black muzzle, covered with hair like velvet. His teeth were sharp and he had wings like a bat."
Other testimonies - The capture of the Monster
Jorge Martin claims that at least two of these Chupacabras would have been captured. The first specimen was apparently captured in Hato, near the town of San Lorenzo, by a man who kept it in a cage for about six days. Afterwards he had to hand over the prey to a "group of men in uniform". According to researcher Martin, they would have been agents of the Puerto Rican Ministry of Agriculture or of an American federal organization (FBI?). The second Chupacabras was captured in the El Yunque area in early November 1995 by a group of Forestry men. The monster was apparently taken by US soldiers.
According to other sources, three chupacabras were captured, namely a male, a female and a puppy. After their capture, they would have been picked up by FBI agents and taken to the United States of America.
The blood of Chupacabras
On October 3, 1995, a policeman from a small town between Camporico and Canovanas (Puerto Rico) fired some bullets at an alleged Chupacabras. Blood leaked from it and was collected by Jorge Martin and some of his collaborators to be subjected to analysis.
The results were surprising.
- It would be blood similar to human blood, in this case to that of group A;
- According to the tests, the blood came from a wound in the intestine;
- Genetic analysis would have revealed incompatibilities between this blood and human blood, but also with that of any other known species.
The Chupacabras in Calama
Calama is a city in northern Chile. It seems it was the scene of the capture of a specimen of the mysterious animal. The testimonies of this fact were given by a conscript soldier who wanted to remain anonymous, to a private investigator, Patricio Borlone. According to the young soldier, on the night of May 10, 1996, while he was on guard, he thought he saw the silhouette of what he classified without hesitation as a Chupacabra. He therefore decided to inform a superior for instructions. While waiting for the superior's arrival, the soldier noticed the creature's leaping gait and, according to his testimony, at a certain moment it seemed to float in the air as if it had soft wings. Due to the darkness, the soldier was unable to notice anything else. When questioned about the height of the beast, he stated that it must not have been taller than 120 centimeters. This is the only case in which eggs were found after a supposed appearance of chupacabras. Telepathy
A 37-year-old woman, resident in Baquedano, was woken up by loud noises coming from the courtyard of her home, at six in the morning on May 30, 1996. Her house was located a few meters away from the place where a few days earlier, there had been a event attributable to chupacabras: the death by bleeding of nine rabbits. Despite these less than reassuring premises, the woman wanted to ascertain the origin of the noise and went out into the courtyard. There she was surprised by something on her back, which made her whirl around: she found herself face to face with "a horrible creature, about 130 centimeters tall, covered in dark fur and with large, bright, orange eyes."
Another case also seems to admit that the chupacabras possesses telepathic powers. The incident took place between Calama and Baquedano. Two friends, a man and a woman, were in a car chatting along the side of the road. Suddenly the chupacabras stood in front of them and mentally ordered the girl to get out of the car. The girl was about to open the door when she realized what she was doing and ordered her friend to leave. The man felt his legs paralyzed by a dark force, and after a lot of effort he managed to start the car, as soon as the beast was hit by the beam of light from the car's headlights, he disappeared into the thick bush next to the road.
Chupacabras and UFOs
The two episodes just mentioned lead one to think that the chupacabras is a being endowed with a certain intelligence, if not also with discrete telepathic abilities. This explains - at least in part - the interest shown by ufologists in this phenomenon. They essentially consider the chupacabra as the manifestation of an alien presence on our planet, they also maintain that all the supposed episodes attributed to the chupacabra were preceded by sightings of very intense lights in the sky, to the point of illuminating entire cities.
Another episode that seems to link the chupacabra and UFOs dates back to May 1995 and has a farmer, José Ismael Pino, as its protagonist. He was in his house when he noticed that a very strange luminous phenomenon was happening in the sky. Sudden lights illuminated the sky and others seemed to move swirlingly. Having gone out to see what was happening, he was petrified in front of "a winged being about one and a half meters tall, with ape-like features, it had long claws and two enormous fangs at the base of what appeared to be a mouth". The being stared at him. Next to the farmer there was one of his dogs who tried to attack that monster, but the dog returned with a bloody neck. After this, the monster disappeared, only to appear a few days later not far away, on a farm, where in one night eight pregnant sheep were bled to death by «something that deprived them of blood through three holes arranged in a triangle. on the neck, in correspondence with the jugular". Some explanations
The chupacabras or rather the phenomena attributed to its possible existence, try to be explained in different ways. We have already seen how one of the most heartfelt and accredited theories is that which sees chupacabras as the product of an alien civilization. It would be nothing more - according to many - than an alien robot sent to our planet to study the species that inhabit it. This would explain the slaughter of the animals, their lack of blood, but it would not explain why no man was killed by the monster. Any alien civilization interested in our planet could not help but notice that man is the main species that inhabits it and, for sure, would study it rather than dogs, cats, sheep,
Another thesis is that which imagines the chupacabra as the result of a genetic experiment that escaped NASA's control. NASA reportedly missed three of these beings, managing to capture only two. One would therefore be responsible for the animal slaughters that occurred between 1994 and 1995.
There are still those who try to tackle the problem with the rigors of science, attributing the incursions of the supposed chupacabra to common animals such as stray dogs, bats, pumas, which would have developed somewhat anomalous aspects of their behavior due to the influences of the environmental pollutants.
The most sceptical, however, also deny the evidence of the facts by attributing the animal slaughters to simple events that «happen in almost all farms where hungry wild animals are introduced at night», in the words of Ernest Ekerlin, «the clamor developed around the the affair is only the result of a collective psychosis».
However, the fact remains that the real or imaginary chupacabras has the strange merit of having attracted the attention of biologists, geneticists, cryptozoologists, ufologists and scientists in general, all committed to giving a face, an appearance, a name to the shadow that wanders in the woods, in the Puerto Rican countryside... but only there?
Has chupacabras landed in Italy? - Puglia -
The village is called SALVE, it is in Puglia about 60 km from Lecce. In 1996 the town was at the center of what has been defined as intense UFO activity. During the night many lights pirouetted on the sea, approaching and moving away from the few witnesses who were watching them. Also in the same year, two farmers found some dead animals in the countryside. It consisted of a dog, a cat and fifteen chickens. The few traces found rule out the possibility that it was a stray dog or another wild animal (wolf, fox or stone marten). All the victims have three small holes on their neck arranged in a triangle at the level of the jugular. The footprints found in the Salve countryside have a diameter of approximately five centimeters, the average depth of the footprints, between soft ground and harder ground, is approximately 5 centimeters. The dog and cat found first had three holes in their necks from which part of their blood was sucked out. However, they were not completely bled out and although several hours had passed after death, they showed no trace of rigor mortis.
The 15 chickens killed were instead found in a farmhouse about a kilometer away from the previous one. The farmhouse was enclosed within a metal mesh fence which, however, had been cut, the gash in the metal mesh had not been made with wire cutters, more presumably the mesh appeared torn. The fifteen hens all had three holes in their necks, they too had not been bled and, according to some, they were covered in a green gelatinous substance, this is an unreliable detail because the forensic reports lack any indication in this regard. In the rest of the farmhouse you can see the signs of the passage of a beast endowed with immense strength: branches of life devoured, torn nets, evident signs on the tree trunks. No species of place can be capable of all these events. However, no one in Puglia saw or heard anything on the evenings of the massacre, so the mystery, although somewhat forgotten, still remains open.
Has chupacabras landed in Italy? - Calabria -
March 1999.
A group of workers on a construction site spot a large cat, which was presumably the perpetrator of a massacre of chickens that had occurred a few days earlier. We then thought of a tiger and a real hunting party began. The footprint found was examined by a veterinarian who stated: «[...] it is not a feline footprint, it could have been left by a large badger and it is certainly not a tiger footprint». This thesis did not convince many scholars and enthusiasts in the sector who wanted to compare the footprints found in Calabria with the footprints attributed to chupacabras around the world. The footprints were similar to the point that some of them stated: «It was the Chupacabras who massacred the chickens at Capo Colonna». Also The monster's modus operandi appears to be the same: animals slaughtered, bled, with intact flesh and abandoned on the spot. Even here, in Calabria, there are not many testimonies, the workers who are the first witnesses point to the leaping gait of the being, no news regarding the appearance or other aspects.
Conclusion
Beyond what has been said, it appears clear that a series of strange and disturbing phenomena seek a solution. It is not easy to move in an elusive field made up of fragmentary testimonies of fear and military and paramilitary secrets. What is most disconcerting of all is perhaps the suddenness of the monster's attacks: unpredictable and lightning-fast. Even those who do not believe in the existence of chupacabras must admit that the great slaughters of animals were carried out by someone, by someone who acted in different places on the planet with the same techniques and on the same victims, therefore someone who follows a plan, a drawing and realizes it little by little, until he considers it complete. So where are we at? Who can say, the phenomenon still remains one of the most interesting and mysterious. Its possible developments promise to be exciting, and while waiting for them to come to fruition, we can only assist by preparing our minds for the possible truth.
