The search for the lost continent of Lemuria

In the scientific field, the first known civilization appeared on a continent called Lemuria. The existence of this continent was hypothesized for the first time by Philip Lutley Sclater who argued, between 1850 and 1860, that in prehistory there existed a vast territory that extended from Madagascar to Ceylon up to Sumatra. The idea was hypothesized due to the zoological affinities that the territories mentioned above have in common but also due to the presence of the lemur, a small animal, which gave its name to the territory.

The naturalist Wallace, however, argued that a continent of this type could be found between Australia and New Guinea, including the Solomon Islands and perhaps also the Figji Islands. Considering this hypothesis, the naturalist justified the presence of marsupials in Australia.

The two different hypotheses came into conflict: Wallace admitted, however, that in the past there must have been a land bridge connecting India and Australia.

According to Haeckel, however, the Lemurian continent represents the home of the cradle of the human race, and is probably located between the Permian and the Nummulithic, since he believed this area was home to anthropod monkeys.

The discussion was considered purely scientific by theosophy which maintained that Lemuria was the home of the third mother race and the place of origin of humanity. Considering the question theosophically, man would not have developed, on the Lemurian continent, according to a process of evolution, but rather through a thickening of matter that would constitute the body. Man was originally an incorporeal being, who, over time, appeared on earth with an increasingly material body.

According to W. Scott-Elliot and in his “History of Sunken Lemuria”, the first race consisted of beings like “gigantic phantoms, […] because their bodies consisted only of astral matter.”

The first breed was later equipped with a denser coating. The bodies of the second race, however, were considered ethereal, also invisible to the eyes. Man came to have a solid body only with the third race, composed of gas, liquid and matter. The skeleton of these beings was very soft like that of the childhood period (in fact he could not stand upright) he will only be able to enjoy a skeletal structure towards the middle of their history.

These theories, although unconfirmed and based on ancient legends, take us back to the usual parallel with the statements of the eras of humanity which were the object of knowledge by very ancient civilizations such as that of the Maya. The Lemurians of this period possessed three eyes, two quite rudimentary in front and one behind, called the third astral eye, which corresponded to the so-called pineal gland, the center of both astral and physical sight.

Instead the third sub-race, the soft and gelatinous body of the Lemurians further solidified allowed the individual to stand upright, thanks both to the use of the third eye and a protrusion in the heels that allowed him to walk forwards and backwards.

The definitive Lemurian man most likely occurred around the fifth sub-race. He was very tall, approximately three and a half to four metres, with a yellowish-brown complexion, with a flattened face and a very elongated jaw. His eyes, small and penetrating, due to their position, distant from each other, allowed him to see both frontally and sideways, while the third eye was always used for rear vision. His head was tilted backwards, instead of a forehead he had a fleshy roll and his arms were, compared to ours, disproportionate, together with his hands and feet, which were enormous. His hair was placed around his head, short, and he dressed in skins. In his left hand he held a stick and in his right hand he led a reptile, similar to the plesiosaur, which helped him in the hunt.

The seventh sub-race developed to such a point that it managed to give rise to a superior race. With it there was the replacement of the fleshy roll with a sort of forehead, the protrusion located in the heels had been reduced and the head, made ovoid, had assumed a less inclined position; the height and immensity of the limbs had diminished.

This founded an important civilization, in Lemuria, which existed for thousands of years. Initially the Lemurians were mute, but as they progressed they developed a kind of monosyllabic language.

We often remember that in the ancient Vedic religions, in the ancient Iranian civilizations and the Indian Valley there are stories of aerial battles on board flying saucers (such as the vimana) between the peoples of Atlantis and those of other continents such as Lemuria or Mu.

These men, after the distinction of the sexes, began to live on high ground in rudimentary huts. Huts that initially housed families individually, but then, for safety reasons, the lemurs preferred to live in united communities.

The huts were first built of wood, then, due to attacks by dinosaurs, they were built with large boulders; the weapons, however, with which they defended themselves from the ferocious reptiles, were represented by pointed wooden poles.

Agriculture was unknown to these people.

The first races, those with soft skeletons, crawled on the ground and lived on what they found, while the later, more advanced ones, fed mainly on meat, berries and nuts.

In the sixth and seventh sub-races the Lemurians were capable of building cyclopean and megalithic cities. Perhaps they are the ancestral memories of ancient primordial monolithic civilizations that lived and built works like Stonehenge on earth? The first cities of this type can be found in the territories of Madagascar and an urban center of some importance there was on Easter Island. Precisely on this island, the famous Moai, gigantic monolithic statues, built in the terminal period of the Lemur - Atlanteans, probably represent the physiognomy of their builders or their ancestors. As regards the religious aspect, the Lemurians had not developed a real belief but they possessed some moral precepts.

Contrary to what has been said on a scientific level, the continent of Lemuria, among the Theosophists, took on much larger and different forms, depending on the geological periods, and sank due to a long series of volcanic cataclysms. The death of the Lemurians occurred due to fire and suffocation due to the gas produced by volcanic eruptions, the destruction, however, of the continent was not immediate but very long considering the geological times.

It is hypothesized that the entire territory was eventually submerged, just as happened to Atlantis, when 10,000 years before Christ something was remembered as a "Universal Flood" in almost all myths in all civilizations across the globe.
