Braised Beef Chuck
Braised Beef Chuck
Ingredients:
- 2.5 pounds of beef chuck, cut into large pieces
- 1 tablespoon of cooking oil
- 1 cup of chopped yellow onion
- 1 can (14 ounces) of diced tomatoes
- 4 large slices of ginger
- 2 star anises
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 tablespoon of whole peppercorns
- 1 cup of beef broth
- 2 cups of water
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 teaspoon of black pepper
Instructions:
- Cut the beef chuck into large pieces (at least an inch thickness)
- In a large cooking pan, heat it over medium heat without adding any oil. Pan sear the beef pieces until they turn brown on all sides. Once done, set them aside.
- In a medium-sized cooking pot, heat 1 tablespoon of cooking oil over medium heat.
- Add the chopped yellow onion to the pot and cook until the onion turns brown.
- Stir in the can of diced tomatoes and cook for a few minutes until the mixture is fragrant and the tomatoes have softened, and place the seared beef pieces into the pot.
- Add the ginger slices, star anise pods, bay leaves, cinnamon stick, and whole peppercorns to the pot. Stir everything together.
- Pour in the beef broth and water, ensuring that the ingredients are well combined.
- Season the mixture with 1 teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of black pepper. Adjust the seasonings to taste, if needed.
- Reduce the heat to low. Stir to ensure they are submerged in the liquid.
- Cover the pot and let it simmer on low heat for 2 hours, allowing the flavors to meld and the beef to become tender.
- Once the braised beef chuck is done, it is ready to serve.
