Stuffed Tofu Delight
Ingredients:
- 4 oz ground pork
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp cooking wine
- 1 Tbsp oyster sauce
- 1/2 tsp white pepper powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 Tbsp minced ginger
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 12 large pieces of medium firm tofu
- 3 Tbsp oil (for pan-frying)
- 1 cup chicken broth (for the sauce)
- 1 cup water (for the sauce)
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce (for the sauce)
- 1 Tbsp oyster sauce (for the sauce)
- 1 tsp sugar (for the sauce)
- Chopped scallions for garnish
Instructions:
- In a bowl, combine 4 oz of ground pork with 1 Tbsp of soy sauce, 1 Tbsp of cooking wine, 1 Tbsp of oyster sauce, half tsp of white pepper powder, half tsp of salt, 1 Tbsp of minced ginger, and 1 Tbsp of sesame oil. Mix well and refrigerate for a few hours.
- Cut 12 large pieces of medium firm tofu and use paper towels to pat them dry.
- Sprinkle a thin layer of cornstarch onto one side of each tofu piece. Spoon the marinated pork mixture onto the cornstarch-covered side of the tofu.
- Heat a cooking pan over medium-low heat and add 3 Tbsp of oil. Gently place the tofu with the meat side down into the pan. Cook slowly until the tofu turns golden brown.
- Carefully flip the tofu over and pan-fry the other side until golden brown as well. This should take around 3-5 minutes for each side.
- In a separate pan over medium heat, combine 1 cup of chicken broth, 1 cup of water, 1 Tbsp of soy sauce, 1 Tbsp of oyster sauce, and 1 tsp of sugar.
- In a small bowl, mix some cornstarch with water in a 1:2 ratio to create a slurry. Add this slurry to the sauce to thicken it.
- Place the cooked tofu on a serving plate. Pour the savory sauce generously over the tofu.
- Sprinkle the top with chopped scallions for a fresh garnish.
