Beef with Chinese Broccoli (Gai Lan) in Oyster Sauce
Marinate ingredients:
* 8 oz beef sirloin, sliced
* 1 Tbsp soy sauce
* Pinch of white pepper powder
* 1 Tbsp cornstarch
* 1 Tbsp oil
Cooking ingredients:
* 2 pounds Gai Lan (Chinese broccoli)
* 1 Tbsp salt
* 3 cloves garlic, whole
* 2 Tbsp oil, divided
* 1 Tbsp soy sauce
* 1 Tbsp oyster sauce
* 1 tsp sugar
* 1 Tbsp cooking wine
* 1 tsp Maggi sauce
* 2 Tbsp chicken broth
* Cornstarch mixed with water (for thickening)
* 1 tsp sesame oil
Instructions:
1. Cut the beef sirloin into slices and place them in a bowl.
2. In the same bowl, add soy sauce, white pepper powder, cornstarch, and oil. Mix well to ensure the beef is coated evenly. Let it marinate for a few hours.
3. In a separate bowl, soak the Gai Lan in water with salt. Allow it to sit for a while, then rinse thoroughly with running water.
4. Remove the flower portion of the Gai Lan and cut the remaining stems and leaves into 2-inch lengths. Set aside.
5. Heat a cooking pan over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of oil along with the whole garlic cloves. Stir-fry until fragrant.
6. Add the marinated beef to the pan and stir-fry until it reaches a medium doneness. Remove the beef from the pan and set it aside.
7. In the same pan, add another tablespoon of oil, followed by the Gai Lan stems. Stir-fry for a couple of minutes.
8. Add soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, cooking wine, Maggi sauce, and chicken broth to the pan. Stir everything together.
9. Add the cooked beef and Gai Lan leaves to the pan. Continue to stir-fry until the Gai Lan turns soft.
10. If desired, thicken the sauce by adding cornstarch mixed with water. Stir well until the sauce thickens.
11. Finally, drizzle sesame oil over the dish for added flavor.
12. Your marinated beef with stir-fried Gai Lan is now ready to be served. Enjoy!
