DnA 9-20: How the Homeless are Being Screwed
Well, as some of you know for the past 2 or so months I have been homeless\Houseless\A Bum\etc.... I was living in a field that some of the other homeless folks in the area called "the Homeless Camp." Actually it was a large open field. We were living, and sleeping, in the bushes behind the trees.
Next thing I have to tell you is what area I am in. I live in southern California, Huntington Beach, to be exact. The homeless population in this area consists of about 50 to 100 people, Over 45% of these people were living in our "Camp."
In the beginning of March, Huntington Beach Police Department began to go back to camp and hassle the "tenants." The wonderful treatment they gave us consisted of unjust searches, Confiscation of ANYTHING that could be considered a weapon, and things that one would steal. This type of treatment is a regular thing.
Well, the end of March came around. Caltrans (California Transit Authority) Came in and told us we all had 15 minutes to get our stuff and get out. They also told us if we weren't out by this time we would be arrested for trespassing. about five minutes after they had told us this anyone inside camp had guns pulled on them, By the police dept. Almost all of our Clothing, Personal possessions, etc... was left behind. That day they put all of our stuff into a pile and threw it into a large dumpster. A notice was posted "anyone caught inside the premises will be prosecuted."
This is what happened, I was there. I didn't write this for any reason other than to inform people of this incident. I don't want people to feel sorry for me, no sympathy bullshit.
