DnA 7-6: Cracking Encrypted PkZip files

The art of cracking zip's
Ok say you've got ALL your naughty hacker files zipped up so your mommy wont find them or maybe its your xrated gif collection and you don't want your girlfriend to find em, Yet another scenario is your school made a backup of all the user files on their net which has remote free internet access and they zipped it up with a PW.
Don't be discouraged, you can crack that zip!
There are a few things you can still do to zip's even if you don't have the pw.
- You can view the archive
- You can add to the archive
- You can DELETE from the archive
Number 3 is the most important part to cracking the zip. If you have a 1 meg zip file it will take much longer to crack and be much harder to crack as well.
To Crack A Zip
As you can guess the easiest fastest way to crack a zip is with one of the many cracking utilities. I will try to distribute ZipCrack and ZipFind with this archive for as long as I can. and if you have better versions of these programs PLEASE update this archive so it will stay current for awhile.

Ok now you know how to reduce zipsize. ?????. Why would you want to do that? Well the zip is now much smaller and pkunzip.exe will have a much easier time searching for the file you've chosen to crack. You see if you unzip the whole zip it would take MUCH MUCH MUCH longer than just trying to crack out one 45k txt that would get you the password just as well. What zip crackers do are to try passwords sequentially until it gets the file out with no errors. This is accomplished very slowly but with the information contained within this archive you should be able to figure it out no problem.
Speeding up the process
Speeding up the cracking process can be accomplished through the use of a ramdrive. If you don't know what a ramdrive is then HOW THE HELL DID YOU GET THIS ZIP!!!. Setting up a ramdrive is easy. You should have at least a 640k RamDrive. This will enable you to crack most zip's if you reduce the zip size. The RamDrive must be large enough to store
PKUNZIP.EXE
<THE SHORTENED ZIP>
<THE ZIPCRACKING FILES>
Of course if you have 8 megs of ram and lots of free time you don't need this file. Figure it out.
How its done.
Copy all the proper files to the ramdrive. Run the zicraker of your choice.
