Introduction to Adrenalin - Issue #1
Author: Ricochet - Adrenalin Founder
"Let the Adrenalin pump you; the magazine of the future.. "
Welcome to the first issue of Adrenalin! This magazine has been long awaited by the public. I hope all you enjoy all the hard work put into making this magazine by the Adrenalin Staff. One thing you need to remember while you are reading this magazine is that Adrenalin is heavily stressed to be non-partisan to any particular group or person, although many of the group members are part of the major groups. I will be discussing several things in my introduction; if you would like to know what's going on with Adrenalin in the future and what was done in this issue, then read on..
First, where did the name Adrenalin come from? Whenever I hear a group name, I am curious as to where it was derived. Well, Adrenalin came from Primal Scream, the ex-SysOp of Twisted Reality located in 51O. I was thinking of names with Sir ReaL and we came up with several names, but when Adrenalin was suggested by Primal Scream, I liked it. This was the name Primal was planning on using for his BBS Software. However, he said that Adrenalin would be a good name for a magazine. So, it was called Adrenalin. Although Sir ReaL was doubtful of the name when it was first made, he caught on and was pulled into the 'Adrenalin-Faze' as I'm sure all you reading this will be. [NOTE: It's Adrenalin, without the [E] at the end for originality..; remember, we like to be original.. <grin>]
There have been many new innovative and original ideas thought up for this magazine. The major ones have been used and there are still many more to be employed in future issues. The new 'concepts' used in this issue of Adrenalin are:
- Many Sections - Over the normal average 5-7
- Pulldown Menus *AND* 'Pullup Menus' Selectability
- K Size of Magazine - the size is definitely conservative and worth every byte o The Variety of Topics - Ranging from light HP, ANSi, Cracking, Couriers, to Technical Articles
- A Selection of Interfaces Offered - In case you don't like the one given, you should be able to find one that suits your taste.
- Color support in the articles using binary code o VGA Games Screen Capture for the Game Reviews Available [Very light.. we need more people added to the Adrenalin Game Reviewer Staff]
- 7 Fonts to choose from to read the Adrenalin articles w/ the nicest font selection chooser yet seen so far
- 5 total .MOD Files w/ Adrenalin Package including the .MOD for the introduction loader [.MOD Routines _SUCK_ so only high speed 'puters will work with the .MODs. The next issue will be a different set of routines; we are just pressured to release this on time. Sorry for the inconvenience.. ] If it doesn't work perfectly, boot off a clean floppy.
- An iNSANiTY [modified to fit our magazine..] Interface - This is for those die-hard iNSANiTY Fans [like myself.. <g>]
- Compilation of thoughts from the Adrenalin Staff on one question
- No multiple million data files. Just one .EXE that runs the magazine and an .EXE for the loader. That's all that's required for Adrenalin..
- ..and many more that I'm sure you'll notice..
A few sections were very hard to collect and ended up as a failure in my eyes. The main one was the Area Code Reports. Hardly any at all were willing to write an area code report for their own area code. However, many from the southside of 3O5 contributed MANY reports. There were over 2O to choose from and it was very tough. I appreciate all the support given and thank all the people that took their time to fill it out. These people that had 3O5 area code reports that weren't included were: Firefox, Lawless, Morbus Gravis, Public Enemy, PRMan, Eerie Smith, and The Zombie. The Area Code Reports section will be cut in future issues unless the interest picks up. The iDH section will also be taken out, for the group has been dormant for months now. The reasons why they were supported were because the founders are good friends of the Executives of the Adrenalin staff as well as being from the 51O area code, plus the articles were interesting. The group politics section was also a good idea, however very strenuous to contact every leader of every major group to write something regarding their group - basicallythe past, present, and future. Many I simply couldn't contact at all, and some others just wished not to be publicized. It is not because I didn't want to include them, but because those groups would rather not be mentioned.
The next topic I will discuss here is regarding this issue of Adrenalin. If you notice, when you choose a section, the window opens very smoothly. The speed of the opening is the same on all computers and in my opinion, very nice. However, it can become annoying, having to wait for it to open all the time. So, if you get sick of it taking it's time opening up like a scroll, just hit another key and it'll open immediately. While you are reading the magazine, you can get help by hitting F1. This will list all the basic commands. There are basically 10 sections you can go to, and 5 interfaces you can choose to read the articles in. When you are reading an article and wish to change interfaces, you can press F2. But, after you change, it'll put you in the same section, but not the article. So you will need to find the place and article again. Why is there no mouse support in this issue? Mouse support is fairly easy to add but the Executives of Adrenalin found no reason to really have mouse support since it was very simple movement of the arrow keys that would control the commands. Mouse support will be added with the VGA Interfaces in the future however..
The biggest options in this magazine are choosing interfaces, which font to read in, and which .MOD to listen to. However, once you choose all your desired options, it will stay that way until you manually change it again with the function keys [F2-F4]. So, only the first time when you load Adrenalin up will it ask you for the options. This is stored in the .CFG file created in the directory. That should be enough instruction to basically get you through the magazine. If you encounter any bugs, please let us know so we can fix it in the next issue and give you credit in the magazine for the report..
One major problem about this issue of Adrenalin is how many of the articles are outdated. We at Adrenalin did our best to update them and took many out that were totally irrelevant to the scene now. However, now that the Adrenalin program is written, only some code needs to be added to add new features. The articles will be more current when the future issues of Adrenalin are released.
The next question is probably, "How often will Adrenalin be released?" This question is hard to answer, at least to give a full specific date per month per year. Whenever there are enough articles and what's needed to put together the mag is when the next release will come. It will strive to be released _approximately_ monthly however.
By the time you read this, you should have realized that you obviously obtained this magazine some way. DESTiNY and MALiCE both said they would help distribute this magazine and I send my thanks to Tormented Soul and Denizen for the distribution they said they would help in doing..
For Adrenalin to get better and better, we at the Adrenalin staff need your comments and suggestions. What is bad? What is good and should be worked on especially? Improvements will help the magazine so the public may enjoy it more. You can post these on InterPooL or any other major network where Adrenalin may be supported.
