Lucent On-line Newsletter Vol. 2-7
Hi again from all of us at Thunder Ministries and Lucent. We hope everyone had a great 4th of July. For us it certainly was a wonderful holiday spent with family and friends. Well, truthfully we just liked the three day weekend. Anyway I just wanted to take a minute and remind everyone of a few things. First off if you haven't checked out the web site in a while please do so at http://members.aol.com/lucentweb. Lucent's web site has a new look as does Thunder Ministries. Keep an eye out in the future as Thunder Ministries is trying to make their site more of a resource. There are plans to keep current industry news posted as well as interviews and reviews of other bands. More to come on this as it develops.
Lucent would like to let everyone know we are mailing out our printed newsletters. If any church or club would like to have the newsletter sent to you please let us know. We also have an internet mailing list and if your not a member we suggest you join up! This is the only way to say up to date on the current Lucent news as it develops. Please keep this ministry and the members of Lucent in your prayers. Many things are happening faster than we can keep up with them and we want Gods direction in every decision we make. Thank you for your support of this ministry.
Ministry Prayer Needs
We would like everyone to keep Scott (Lucent Member) in your prayers due to a recent neck injury. Scott was working and received an injury to his neck that at times causes him a great deal of discomfort. The doctors have said this could only be corrected with surgery but who's report are you going to believe? We will believe the report of the Lord. Please keep this matter in your prayers. Also wanted to update everyone on the injury Craig (Lucent Member) received a while back after falling off a roof at work. Craig is 100% better now. God had his hand upon him and the doctors were even amazed by the minimal injury he received. To quote one of the doctors "With a fall like this one most people shatter there heel!" Craig only received a bruised heel.
BURN: SHADOWS AND LIGHT
This is the unique vision of respected Christian writer and illustrator Rick Law, and producer Howard Kazanjian (Raiders of the Lost Ark, Return of the Jedi, Demolition Man, This Present Darkness, JAG, etc). With such compelling characters as the female Angel Epiphany, Forge the Mechanical Man, and the devilish villain Darkness Grimm, Rick has created a broad storyline that, while originally crafted to serve an entire television series, was also used to create a storyline for a potential movie to be done in the IMAX format, with state of the art 3-D computer animation. Further the producers of BURN have been in discussions and pursuing such musical artists as Michael W. Smith, Jars of Clay, DC Talk and Mancy A'lan Kane to provide music for a possible soundtrack! Lucent has also been submitted for a possible track on the CD.

You've been together since 1989 and all 4 of you are songwriters. How do all of you get along?
"We are all close. Three of us are related, Myself (Craig) and Paul are brothers. Scott is our Cousin. So even when hard times come, and they do, we are still able to talk things out."
"Scott plays the keyboard. As in instruments none of us play so we let Scott be our hands. When the group gets together we tell Scott what we are looking for and as he's playing we adjust, or produce the sound to get exactly what were looking for. Slowly, a very unique sound through the hands of one, from the hearts of four!"
You've played a number of festivals/events in recent years. What are Lucent's concert plans for 1998?
"We are currently making out our calendar now. We have spent more time on this CD than we have phone calls, or attempting to set our calendar. I guess that's why we need a Promoter/Agent. As far as this year we are discussing plans with Teen Mania Ministries about doing possible concerts for them. As far as the festival seen we are currently discussing a possible concert at next years Ichthus Festival. Nothing set yet but as soon as any specific dates are confirmed we will let everyone know."
Tell me about your CD "Eclectic". When will it be released? Who produced it?
"This CD Eclectic is unique. Everyone who hears it loves our style, arrangement, and most important our lyrics. Everything on this CD we (Lucent members) have done ourselves with the help of the holy spirit. With his guidance we produced, arranged, mixed, did the CD artwork, wrote the songs, I think you get the idea. We did everything on our own, but when God is on your side your never alone."
Who were/are some of your musical influences? Why?
"That's a good question. I don't know where to start. We all have our favorites, and love all styles of music. One minute were listening to Stryper or Holy Soldier. Next minute Gospel Gangsters, Michael English, Crystal Lewis, Tim Miner, Skillet, and the list goes on and on."
There are so many different styles of music, do you think people can be reached from these different styles. And do you think there should be Christian Rock, Metal, Rap, Thrash, Core etc. to reach the masses?
"Well, if Lucent did a concert at a country club we wouldn't do rap, or metal to reach people! We would have to sing a style of music those people could relate to. Never in history have we had such a mixture of musical backgrounds, and styles as we do today. Every style of music is excepted. Personally, I think we should use the talent God has given. Every style of music can be used to reach people. Every Style!"
How would you describe your music?
"I don't know how to describe it, nor do most people. We have been told, 'you rap.....but you don't. Your style is unique.' The technical people we have talked to said we do 'Edge' music. Most people just say your rap, grunge, contemporary, metal, depending on the song they hear. So, really we don't know what to call it, that's why our CD is entitled Eclectic. To pull from many sources combining it into one."
Do you believe Lucent can change the way people think about Christian music? (Do you think your music can break down some barriers?)
"Yes of course, young people love it. One fan compared our 'Taste' to Puff Daddy. Although I have never heard his music, I'm told he uses a lot of styles. Many older adults love us because they can understand what we are saying. They also like what they feel. People will forget what you say but they never forget what they feel."
It seems like within the last couple of years there have been so many great Christian artists coming to the surface (Plumb, All Star United, Third Day, Reality Check not to mention all of the Ska bands like Five Iron Frenzy and The Supertones) Do you think Christian music is being accepted more than before?
"I believe Christian music is going to be the next big wave to hit the music industry. It's God anointed, and Christian artists have just as much talent and ability to hang with secular artists. Also I think people are tired of listening to music with no morals or respect for themselves or others. People want the old way of life. Happy families, true love, kindness, and morals that can only be obtained with a personal relationship with Jesus Christ."
