UPDATE

If you remember in the last issue we were telling you about the situation with our ministries van. To briefly recap the problem, Scott (Lucent member) was involved in an accident with the van and we were unable to use the vehicle for our NY concert. At the time we didn't know what to do with the van and was waiting on the insurance company to assess the damage. They have, and decisions have been made. Come to find out the van was worth a lot more than we had expected. The damage totaled up to about $5,000.00 and the insurance company decided to repair the van instead of totaling the vehicle. (To be honest we were praying the van was totaled) The van should be ready in about a month, Good as new.

This still left us with a dilemma. What to do about the CD's. If you remember we are in need of about $3,500.00 dollars to complete the project. I believe we have brain stormed and come up with a solution. Since we need another vehicle anyway we have decided to sell the van after we get it back. Yes, this will leave us without a vehicle to travel in, but we need two vehicles when we travel with the van anyway. You can see our problem. We have prayed and discussed this thoroughly and do fell this is the best option.

Let me just briefly tell you some of what's going on with the new CD Eclectic. Keep in mind this project isn't finished. The studio work is done but the actual CD's haven't been made. We have had 5 record companies ask for personalized press packets. What makes this so awesome is they have written us letters. It's not just an emailed address, they have shown sincere interest in our project. Also, we have had 4 magazines ask for info to write articles and CD reviews. Believe it or not one magazine is out of Sweden and another is out of England. CCM magazine here in the US is wanting material also.
International exposure isn't bad for an INDIE band. (INDIE band is a band not signed to a record label) A local Christian music station 88.5 FM WJIE has also shown great interest in our new project. They have a show on Saturday nights called THE EDGE. This show features alternative, rap, rock and other various styles of Christian music that normally doesn't get air play on the Christian radio stations. They are interested in possibly doing a full band interview and playing our music regularly on the show. Check out WJIE web sight at http://www.wjie.org. If you have a band and are interested in getting your stuff show cased on the program Email the station and address your email to attn: The Edge. Tell them you heard about the show from Lucents on-line news letter and they will contact you about sending them the information.

DEVOTIONAL

Letter from: Ivan Dale

I get a lot of e-mail from the Christian music mailing list I am on. On this mailing list someone will Email a particular subject, usually something they have an opinion about and others on the list will respond with comments and their personal views about the topic. I received an e-mail the other day that inspired me to write this brief column. The subject of the Email was about Christian Rock Music. A debate that has been going on since this style of music hit Christian music years ago. I was pleased to read this particular gentleman had done his studying. It was very obvious he knew what he was talking about. The thing that bothered me about this particular post was this gentleman devoted an entire web page to discuss his views about the problems in particular artists lives. I realize that the author of the web sight may not have intended to present his views in such a demeaning manor, and then again maybe he did. Either way, it struck me that he was being very harsh on the artists. I will admit he had very valid points and the quotes he had posted were convincing, but then again you can't believe everything you hear. I just wanted to drop a note and remind everyone, Musicians are people too. Often we build Christian musicians up like they are Gods. We think they can do no wrong. Have you ever thought what it really would be like in DC Talks shoes, or Jars of Clay?

I know with us (Lucent) over the years we have had numerous rumors, and article misquotes printed on occasion. It happens; we never want it to but it does. Please remember, Christian Musicians are people too. They need encouragement and support. So next time you sign on send an Email to your favorite artist telling them how their music has touched your life. Next time your out to buy music, instead of buying a secular artist buy a Christian artist. If you see an artist doing something you feel is wrong; send them a letter of encouragement stating what you feel they should do different according to what the word of God says. Please be careful what you say about Christian artists and if you hear a rumor, that's what it is. Just a rumor and not the truth!
