Tenchi Muyo!
Tenchi Muyo! Who doesn't know this amazing anime? When I asked my friends there was a chorus of "I don't know it" which makes me T_T (cry if you don't recognize the smiley face). So I have decided to review it for the most ignorants!
The story is certainly not the most innovative, in fact the protagonist is the classic Japanese high school student who at the end of these 6 OAVs is rediscovered as the prince of the universe. ("Just fantastic!").
The real beauty (I would say stupefaction) of these videos is how the story unfolds: the engine of everything is the curiosity of Tenchi Masaki, who disobeying his grandfather (I write it with a capital letter because up to the 5th of the 6 episodes everyone calls him like this) opens the cave of the family sanctuary where, according to the legend, a demon is imprisoned there. actually there really was a demon there and it was freed by Tenchi.
This demon, however, is anything but an ugly one to fight, in fact she is nothing more than a beautiful girl (even if in reality she is 700 years old) named Ryoko. The first clash between the two takes place in Tenchi's school, during which it is destroyed (the secret dream of every student), and Ryoko discovers that Tenchi is in possession of the sword named Tenchi. In summary, Tenchi (the sword) is the only thing that can give Ryoko back his powers, but the only people who can touch that sword are Tenchi (the man) and his grandfather.
After this atrocious discovery, Ryoko, of a very uninhibited nature, decides to seduce Tenchi (obviously the man) to induce him to return the gems set on the sword, which are the source of her power. But, as Ryoko begins her maneuvers to conquer the poor and very clumsy Tenchi, arrives the princess Ayeka with his spaceship. She is looking for her brother Yosho, also prince of Jurai, and her betrothed by the decision of the family. Yosho had left Jurai in pursuit of Ryoko, actually a space pirate, who had attacked the planet to steal. Ayeka, having followed in the footsteps of Ryo-ohki, Ryoko's spaceship, as soon as it arrived on earth, unleashes a violent attack on Ryoko, who in the meantime manages to get one of the three gems of Tenchi by means of Tenchi, awakens Ryo-ohki and returns fire. Ryoko and Tenchi are captured and while Ayeka tortures Ryoko to find out where Yosho is, Tenchi meets Sasami, Ayeka's younger sister, a very cheerful and playful girl, so much so that she puts a beautiful joke on Tenchi. Then Tenchi and Ryoko manage to escape and get back on Ryo-ohki, they begin a violent battle in which the two spaceships are irreparably destroyed, so both Ryoko, Ayeka and Sasami are forced to live together in the house with Tenchi and his grandfather.
In the first days of living together, things are very difficult because Ryoko continues to play tricks on Ayeka, moreover, in addition to the previous hatred, the two girls feel the other as a rival in love, because they are both in love with Tenchi. During the holidays of the Masaki family and yet another clash between the two girls, Mihoshi, an agent of the star police (another beautiful girl) falls from the sky who, knowing that she was saved by Tenchi, falls in love with her believing that he was a sign of destiny.
With the arrival of Mihoshi it turns out that Kagato is coming to earth. Kagato is a space pirate, but not just anyone, he is the most dangerous. He has a criminal record of 5000 years of crimes. The pirate, strange case, appears in the spa where Ayeka, Mihoshi and Ryoko are taking a bath, arguing and drinking quite a bit. Kagato attacks the girls as he is looking for the secret of the universe, which he believes is in the possession of Jurai's royal family. At first Kagato kidnaps Ryoko, but shortly after a new clash takes place in which the true identity of Tenchi's Grandfather is revealed, and that is ... I don't tell you ... OK I say it ... it is actually the great samurai Yosho, the one who defeated Ryoko.
Thanks to her intervention, Kagato is forced to retire on his star cruiser, taking Ryoko with him, and so Tenchi decides to go and rescue her. He is joined by both Mihoshi, as a star policewoman, and Ayeka (albeit reluctantly). To get to the spaceship of Kagato Tenchi & Co. they use Ryo-ohki, because even if it had been destroyed it had generated an egg from which a crawling was born (1/2 cat and 1/2 rabbit) that can be transformed into a spaceship.
But the attack that Kagato's cruiser brings to Ryo-ohki is too violent and the ship is seriously damaged: Tenchi is reported missing and is believed dead by the girls. Meanwhile, Ryoko breaks free and returns to Ryo-ohki. The three girls are desperate and want revenge, so they dress up as three perfect Rambos in skirts and attack Kagato. In reality Tenchi is not dead, as he is saved by Tsunami, the royal spacecraft of jurai called back to earth by Sasami.
Finally Tenchi, also a member of the royal family of Jurai, discovers the secret of the universe's strength and defeats Kagato. In the grand finale all the girls move permanently into the Masaki house and the troubles continue, even bigger! Kagato's cruiser leads to Ryo-ohki is too violent and the ship is seriously damaged: Tenchi is missing and is believed dead by the girls. Meanwhile, Ryoko breaks free and returns to Ryo-ohki.
In these videos the animation and character design are fantastic, the only negative note is the music: the opening theme is nice and short, nothing special, but acceptable; what I really don't like is the final theme which, if listened to a couple of times, is nice, but it is very long and wacky. In addition, the special bonuses on the cassettes contain the same final song with the English text or with different images (Well, honestly, I liked the opening theme very much, and I don't find the final song so unbearable, at least at the beginning).
By the way, if you want to continue having fun with Tenchi, the publication of the comic book born after the OAV series began recently.
