How to connect an EIDE harddisk to the Playstation 2
Needed:
- Network Adapter;
- Hard Disc Drive;
- Hard Disc Loader / Advance;
Method:
First, after purchasing the network adapter for PS2, take the hard disc and set the jumper to master, then connect the EIDE hdd to na and insert it behind the PS2; tighten the screws and that's it!
Now you just need the program to run on ps2 to start / load the games; the program in question is the very famous HDloader / advance now in version 0.7c (you can find it in the ps2 programs section of this site).
Now you have to load the games on hdd; here's how to do it:
To load the games on the hard disc there are various methods: using the ps2 player directly or using the pc.
The first method is also the simplest as it is enough to start hdloader and insert the game to be copied to hdd inside the ps2 player, but this method is also the most harmful because in the long run it ruins the ps2 lens (as it happened to me, so I don't recommend it ..)
There are two other methods to load games on hdd and you have to use a pc.
The best (according to my point of view) and also the fastest is to remove the hard disc from the ps2 and connect it directly to the ide port of the pc (temporarily detaching a cd player or attaching it to a free ide). To follow this procedure you will have to use Winhiip which is a simple program that copies the game to the ps2 partitioned hdd from an image file on your pc hdd or from a dvd player.
The other method uses the network so you need a network card on the pc, a crossover rj45 network cable and that the ps2 is close to the pc in order to connect them with the network cable. After configuring the ps2 and the pc for network connection start the hdldumb elf from the pc (or from the memory card) and through the excellent hdldumb GUI install the games. This method is very slow even if simpler because you don't have to unmount the hard disk from the ps2.
Differences between HDLoader HDAdvance
On many forums I always see the same question: "What is the difference between hdloader and hdadvance? / Which is the best? / Which do I have to use?"
Here is the answer to these questions:
The only difference between these two versions is the skin, the interface; in fact at the program level they are practically identical and therefore it is indifferent which of the two you choose I use HDLoader with the PS2Online skin made by me. Later if I can find the time I'll try to publish a guide explaining how to patch hdl and how to change the skin.
