CORK RADIO CLUB
Theory classes commenced at Wilton Park House with 16 enthusiasts attending following a successful open night where packet Radio and HF operation were demonstrated.
Jamboree on the Air was a very successful operation with a station set up at the Kilcully camp site run by Anthony, EI2HY and Mike EI2IB. This is the ninth year in which the Cork Radio Club have participated in JOTA and was once again very impressive with a thirty hour marathon operation resulting in some interesting contacts which included stations in Greenland, Iceland, the RAF base in Cyprus, and for the second year in a row, the World Scout Headquarters in Geneva, HB9S. Some of the scouts were let loose on the local 2 metre repeater resulting in many QSO's.
With next year being the 100th anniversary of Marconi's experiments, plans are underway to run a special event station =66rom the Crookhaven Marconi Site, located in West Cork. Other special event stations are in the pipeline.
SOUTH DUBLIN RADIO CLUB
Work on a new shack to accommodate the HF rig has been underway for the past few weeks and is now completed. This will allow HF operation to take place in peace and quiet - expect to hear EI2SDR on the air more often from now onwards. SDR recently acquired a P.C., which is used, among other things, for morse classes. The club has been presented with an SSTV unit and it plans to install this over the next few weeks.
"Pupil Turns Teacher" - Listeners may be interested to learn that one of the pupils in last years classes, run by South Dublin Radio Club, is now teaching both theory and morse to this years class. Recently licensed Michael Conaghan, EI2IE, is now spending his Tuesday evenings passing on to new members what he learned himself just a year ago. Michael is also very active on the and is well on his way to achieving his 250 contacts to upgrade his licence.
