Prague Castle
The Prague Castle (Czech: Pražský hrad) is a 9th century fortified complex located in the Czech capital, Prague. It has always been the center of Czech power: kings of the Kingdom of Bohemia, emperors of the Holy Roman Empire and of the Hapsburg Empire and later the presidents of Czechoslovakia lived here.
it is one of the oldest castles in Europe.
However, visiting it is a bit disappointed. In fact, it is not the classic medieval fortified castle entirely made of stone we all have in mind. The castle is actually a complex of several buildings.
The castle main entrance
Of all the buildings inside the castle that can be visited, the most beautiful, which alone is worth the price of the entrance ticket, is definitely the St. Vitus Cathedral.
I will write in the next days a dedicated article on the Church (I took a lot of pictures :))
The old royal palace, on the other hand, is very disappointing. Only a few rooms can be visited, and are mostly bare and without furniture :(
Not all buildings can be visited. Most can be admired only from outside.
Basilica of St. George.
The Golden lane is a famous street in Prague, located within the Castle area (close to the perimeter walls) and characterized by a row of small colorful buildings, which were initially built to house the 24 guards of Emperor Rudolf II of Habsburg (1522-1612) and their families.
The houses are very nice and small. On the second level there is a long corridor where ancient armor and weapons are exhibited.
The Dalibor tower was used in the past mainly as a prison. It now contains a small collection of torture tools.
The visit ends with a walk on the bastion of the castle
from which you can admire Prague from the top of the Mountain :)
