Der Museumswerft Flensburg
Today I visited the "Der Museumswerft Flensburg".
It is located in front of the "Schifffahrtsmuseum Flensburg museum", very easy to reach and the entrance costs only one euro :)
The museum advertise himself as:
Museumshafen Flensburg e.V. is an incorporated society founded in 1979 by private shipowners. It presents a representative collection of sailing working boats, once sailing as cargo vessels, fishing boats, customs cutters, pilot cutters and rescue boats, to name a few. Here you will find the traditional boats of the Baltic Sea, from Belts and Sounds, Kattegat and Skagerak presented to the public.
Museumshafen Flensburg intends to show these boats as they are an important part of the great shipping history of Flensburg and - beeing fondly restored and maintained - contribute to quality of life right in the heart of the picturesque Old Town.
Museumshafen Flensburg as a cultural corporation wants to preserve these historic boats as they are vivid monuments of the old times of sailing, old seamanship and shiphandling as well as craftsmanship and art.
It is actually a huge outdoor construction site.
It gives an idea of how complex was in the past to build wood boats.
The wood sawdust is everywhere !!!
Almost everywhere there are worked or semi-worked wooden beams.
and wooden boats not yet completed or under repair.
It is worth taking a tour if you pass nearby, especially because next to the museum, on the quay of the harbor, there is a small stilt house that sells sandwiches stuffed with fish.
Be prepared for a at least 20 to 30 minutes queue, as it seems to me that the entire population of Flensburg comes here to eat the sandwich.
Different types of fish are available.
Backfisch is the most expensive, but it is breaded and fried fish.
Ger. Lachs is the contraction of "Geräucherte Lach" which translates to english in "smoked salmon", something I know well.
I wanted a raw fish, so I chose Sild.
This is what I got
It tastes really good !!! I recommend it to anyone :)
