Cleaning a Sega cartridge slot
Main things you need:-
1. Lint free cloth. (hanky will do fine.. must be "Lint free!)
2. Some "Methylated Spirits" ( May be called something different in different countries) It is a clear cleaning fluid. UN No. 1170. This UN Number will help you ID it if the name is different in your country. UN numbers are used to ID different substances. The same UN number of any substance is the same no matter were you are in the world. There are a few other substances you could use. I will list them here soon.
3. broken part of a thin piece of plastic ruler, or another piece of plastic about 2 mm thick.
1. Now once you have the above parts, Put the lint free cloth over the piece of the ruler so you have flat cloth on each side of the ruler. So that there is cloth on one side, the ruler then cloth on the other side. Max thickens needs to be the same as the cartridge PCB thickness (Cos it is going in were the cartridge PCB makes contact with the pics :-)
2. Apply a small amount of Metho on the edge of the cloth closest to the point/edge (were the "IIIII" ruler lines are) of the ruler (which will be the part to touch the contact in the cartridge slot).
3 Insert (point first) into the cartridge slot, then remove. You should see dirty lines appear on the cloth from the contacts in the slot.
4. Repeat 1 , 2 and 3 with another clean part of the cloth until all the pins in the connector are clean again.
5. Allow the slot o dry heaps before testing, in case of some Metho getting in the slot, it will evaporate.. so don't worry :-) Just needs air flow (Don't blow into the slot!)
That's it! :-)
