To clean a sega cartridge you will need the following things.

1. Some cotton buds or ear buds

2. Some "Methylated Spirits" ( May be called something different in different countries) It is a clear cleaning fluid. UN No. 1170. This UN Number will help you ID it if the name is different in your country. UN numbers are used to ID different substances. The same UN number of any substance is the same no matter were you are in the world. There are a few other substances you could use. I will list them here soon.

Here is a pic of the printed circuit board (PCB) edge connector that we want to clean. The gold rectangular contacts are on both sides of the PCB. This is where the dirt collects and stops the cartridge from making a good connection with the cartridge slot.

1. Dip one end of the cotton bud into the Methylated Spirits (Short name "Metho").

2. Wipe off any excess Metho, The bud needs to be moist, not dripping wet.

3. Hold the cartridge by the top with the edge connector facing down.

5. Move it from left to right along the edge connector. You should notice that the bud will now turn very dirty.

6. Repeat this till the contacts look all nice and shine. (When dirty they look really dull and gray)

7. When this is done go over the edge connect with a dry cotton bud, to soak up any left over Metho.

8. Turn the cartridge over, Make sure the edge connector still faces down and repeat the process for the other side.

9. Once you have done both sides, Leave the cart for 2 or 3 minutes, The try it in your sega system. Now it should work like new! :-)
