CYSNC output on a PlayStation 2
This modification is for people who only want RGBS output on their PS2. Other video modes will not function properly. CSYNC is taken directly from the GPU and routed to the video connector; while also removing sync on green in 31Khz + Modes by not allowing CSYNC to travel to the DAC. The 3000X and lower is different from the later models; as it has a different DAC; which allows to disable SOG conveniently by grounding pin32.
This mod can be done multiple different ways. The method below was chosen for the ability to return the unit to stock form. That is why parts are removed as opposed to traces cut.
There are two available scart cables to use, SYNC ON LUMA or COMPOSITE VIDEO SYNC. Each cable requires a specific modification.
Parts to remove/add:
Resistor to Remove (Removes SOG)
3000X & LOWER: Not Required
3900X & HIGHER: R299/R8299 (47 OHM)
Capacitor to remove (Simulates trace cut of video output)
SYNC ON LUMA: C267/C8267 (220u 4V)
COMPOSITE VIDEO SYNC: C268/C8268 (220u 4V)
Ferrite Bead to Replace with 470 Ohm Resistor (Required for attenuated CSYNC)
SYNC ON LUMA: FB204/FB8204
COMPOSITE VIDEO SYNC: FB203/FB8203
3000X & Lower
Connect yellow pad to any ground on motherboard (This disables SOG)
Connect blue via to red pad based on which cable you plan to use. (Connects CSYNC to AV Connector) (Use 470 Ohm inline resistor if attenuation required)
3900X
Connect red pad to blue pad based on which cable you plan to use. (Connects CSYNC to AV Connector)
Ferrite Bead located on other side of board
My Personal Machine
5000X
Connect blue pad to red pad based on which cable you plan to use. (Connects CSYNC to AV Connector)
Ferrite Bead located on other side of board
7000X +
Connect red pad to yellow pad based on which cable you plan to use. (Connects CSYNC to AV Connector)
