How to change the Dreamcast Keyboard Language
Hello and welcome. Today I am offering a short guide. It's amazingly simple to do and will allow us to change the region of our Dreamcast's keyboard. I have seen many times on various auctions several AZERTY keyboards, while QWERTY keyboards are a rarity. Today you can convert the Dreamcast keyboard to any keyboard you want.
What we need:
- soldering iron, tin, flux
- tweezers
- screwdriver
We begin. Disassemble the keyboard. We need to get to the keyboard motherboard. We remove all the screws visible on the back:
Open the keyboard to get access to the motherboard. We are interested in the place where these jumpers are visible:
As you can see in the picture, we have 4 jumpers. JP1, JP2, JP3, JP4.
The correct combination sets us the keyboard region. But what to do to change the region? How to set the jumpers? Just look at the table in the technical manual issued by SEGA itself.
As we can see, there are many regions to choose from. We are interested in English UK or US. The table corresponds to the configuration of our jumpers, starting from JP4 to JP1. So "0" means the jumper used, "1" means the gap. So the only thing to do here is change the jumper. So to convert the AZERTY French keyboard to QWERTY, move the JP2 jumper to JP3, and leave JP2 blank.
Minimal knowledge of soldering is required here.
Below I present a photo with the modification made to the English UK region:
Once we have the jumpers set, we can change the location of the keys:
That's it. Simple and effective modification. Good luck with The Typing of Dead!
