Dreamcast internet configuration (DIAL-UP Modem)
Setting up the internet in the Dreamcast is not a difficult task.
For people who would like to take advantage of the benefits of the Dreamcast browser (e.g. to download or send a save from a memory card) - I have created this short guide.
Before starting with the settings, of course, the console itself should be connected to the landline phone socket with the provided Internet cable.
The operator normally charges some fee for using this type of service, according to its rates as for a telephone connection. When connecting to a broadband / LAN network, a Broadband Adpater (BBA) is required which replaces the standard modem in the Dreamcast.
Pages that were supposed to support the main features of Online Dreamcast, such as the European Dreamarena or the Japanese DriCas, have already been disabled. The exception is the American PlanetWeb, which Deck owners can still use. So I invite you to connect to the web address http://dreamcast.planetweb.com/
We move on. The next step in the configuration is, of course, getting an appropriate browser - in this case, it is best to use the free XDP Dreams or, for example, Web Browser or even one game that can be played over the network, e.g. Quake 3 Arena.
In the case of configuration for the Web Browser, press START and enter the Options menu, then choose INTERNET CONNECTION. In the case of Quake 3 Arena, go to the online game option and press the DIAL-UP tab. The following window will appear, that we have to fill.
- REAL NAME - enter what we want here.
- USER LOGIN - enter ppp here
- USER PASSWORD - enter ppp here
- DIAL UP NUMBER - enter 0202122 here (in the case of ordinary modem for TP network) or your ISP number
- BACKUP NUMBER - do not enter anything here
If you fail to establish a connection, also complete the DNS fields
- DNS1 - enter 204-127-129-1
- DNS2 - enter 204-127-160-1
After that, click on the DIAL OPTIONS tab, there, in the DIAL option, select the traditional Tone (depending on what telephone line you have, sometimes it can be Pulse - check, for example, how your phone is set - also set in DeCe), the rest remains empty or marked on OFF. In the PROXY tab, set it to NO (unless you use it).
In the case of EMAIL ACCOUNT configuration (only browsers have this option, unfortunately Online games do not) - it is done in the same way as in the case of PC. So it should be configured as specified in the instruction of a given e-mail account due to different POP3 and SMTP server addresses.
Now just Save the settings and wait a while until they are saved in the console's memory. Ready!
Now it remains to click on Connect and we can enjoy the Internet via DC!
