mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm "Tragedy"

How to I even begin to describe what a terrible tragedy it is. I've
never been so upset by something that happened to people I never even knew.
But the thing is thousands of people woke up September 11th with no idea
that it was going to be the last day of their lives. Thousands upon
thousands of these victims' families woke up on September 11th not knowing
that they'd never see their children, or husband, or wife alive again.
I don't know what to think of all of this. Every time I see the
planes crash into those twin towers I have the same reaction as if I'm
seeing it for the first time. The sick thing though is that this was such a
premeditated act of terrorism that the timing was perfectly laid out.
Purposely making the 2nd plane crash a little later just for all Americans
to be able to watch on their TVs. It's sick. This should have never
happened.
This isn't supposed to happen. We are America. The land of the
free. Yet we've had how many terrorists living in our own country for quite
a while now. They could have been someone that people saw every day not
knowing that they would end up hijacking a plane that would crash into the
WTC and the Pentagon. Not knowing they would cause so much grief amongst
the entire country for weeks to come. I can't get the picture out of my
head of people waving helplessly out of the windows from the top floors just
before the building collapsed. I can't even get myself to read the
newspapers that I've bought for the past few days. It's just too depressing
to see.
I'm living in the middle of history being made. It's a weird
feeling. It's an eerie feeling to drive down the streets and see signs
saying "From sea to shining sea" "You have our support NY" "God Bless
America" and then to see every other home waving an American flag or having
one taped to their window and then to go out and see everyone wearing red
white and blue. To turn on the TV and hear of people still alive trapped
under the layers and layers of destruction. To go to work and to hear my
fellow coworkers telling stories of someone they knew who was either in the
WTC, or who was supposed to be there, or who worked there and didn't go to
work that day for some reason, etc. It makes you question your entire
existence.
It's not normal to go to school and flick on the television and hear
of bomb threats, missing persons, destruction, terrorism constantly. To
have a moment of silence and then have the choir sing 'America the
Beautiful' over the loudspeakers. And have students cry because of it.
These songs, the American flag, patriotism... it never had as much meaning
in my life until this week. But then again I find it weird that because
Friday was a day of mourning and remembrance people decided to get out their
red white and blue. Like it's the 4th of July.
This isn't a time to be celebrating. If a person is so patriotic,
shouldn't they expressing it 365 days a year not just one or 2 days out of
the year? I felt content enough wearing a ribbon to show my respect. Not
getting all dressed up and whatnot. It's kind of funny how Bush took a
little vacation only a few weeks after he was supposedly warned that
something bad was going to happen in the weeks to come. I just wonder what
he will do in return as the president of the United States.
