Someone knew what was going to happen.
I'm convinced that something of Tuesday, September 11th's, magnitude
could not escape the increasingly wide vision of the world's governments and
so-called "intelligence" operations. If it did, it speaks poorly of the
mechanisms which are supposedly in place to watch the movements of any and
all aiming to upset national stability. If, however, the plans of the
terrorists involved were known to anyone, then there is a far greater
problem at hand.
I do not trust authorities of any kind, especially those claiming to
work under the auspices of "the people." As far as I am concerned, the
government is beholden only to itself and the vastly wealthy powers that
supply it with funding. As wars have continually proven, both of these
groups care only for profit and power, disregarding the fate of common
humanity as easily as Great Cthulhu itself. Ergo, I do not find it the
slightest bit unlikely that the government and its sponsors would be willing
to sacrifice a few thousand innocent lives for the sake of personal gain.
Even as I write, President Bush declares that military actions will
be undertaken. Giant sums of money are being channeled into antiterrorism
and the rebuilding of the twin edifices that were such great bastions of
capitalism. Americans nationwide scream mindless, racist, militaristic
phrases at their families and any nearby cameras. Wal-Mart stocks its
shelves with plastic American flags, waiting to reap the monetary harvest of
a tragedy that hasn't even been completely dealt with yet. Despite so many
media reports to the contrary, things in the United States haven't changed,
and I doubt they will. A brief spell of public unity -- by a partially
misguided cause, I might add -- will not change the fact that the rulers of
this nation, and the world in general, will not cease to take every step
possible in order to further their own goals.
Many will call me a cynic or a conspiracy theorist. I will not argue
with them. Others will call me unpatriotic. I will laugh at them, because
they cannot discern the differences between patriotism and nationalism.
More still will find my desire to look past the mountains of splintered
concrete, the charred limbs, and the call to arms and find the real reasons
behind this incident ghoulish and inappropriate. To those people, who may
very well be the same as the ones that might call me a cynic and
unpatriotic, I have nothing to say, because they do not want the truth.
They want Muslim heads on pikes and carpet bombs. Reason does not apply to
people who want such things, nor does it apply to a group that would
sacrifice almost anything for the sake of power and money.
I am truly sorry that the events of September 11th occurred, but I am
even sorrier that I distrust my fellow man enough to believe that the
situation was engineered.
