Did Ancient Greece steal the numbers from the egyptians ?
According to Stephen Chrisomalis, of the McGill University of Montreal (Canada), the Greek alphabetic numbering (the one in which each number corresponds to a letter, for example alpha one, beta two and so on) would have been "stolen" from Egyptians by the Greeks, to whom it is normally credited. Chrisomalis has in fact shown close similarities between the Greek numbering, born in the sixth century BC, and the demotic numbers used in Egypt from the eighth century BC. until 450 AD
