Vernal Hanging Parrot (Loriculus vernalis)

Characteristic: Size 14 cm. A diminutive green parrot with very short tail. Red patches are present on its bill, rump and upper tail coverts. A male has a distinctive blue neck patch; while a female lacks this neck patch and having paler red bill than of the male.
Distribution: India, China, Myanmer, Thailand, Vietnam, the Andamans and Java.
Habitat: Dry evergreen forest.
Habit: Keeps in small flock of 5-10 individuals that congregating on fruiting trees. Diet consists of wild fruits, nectar, and seeds of field crops such as maize, sorghum and chilli. Breeds between January-March, they nest in a tree cavity, in which a clutch of 3-4 eggs will be laid.
Status: A less frequently seen resident.
