Characteristic: Size 15 cm. A very small bird of dissimilar appearance between sexes; a male has dark blue upperpart and white underpart; with a black band from its base of bill to side of breast; a female has greenish brown upperpart with blue rump, upper tail covets and tail; belly and under tail coverts white. An immature male is closed to a female; while an immature female is similar to a mature female but having brown rump and tail.
Distribution: Notheast Asia, India ,Southern China , Southeast Asia, Sumatra and Borneo.
Habitat: Found in the evergreen forest, mixed deciduous forest and bamboo forest; mainly in the plain and foothills. In Sakaerat area, it occurs in both dry evergreen and dry dipterocarp forests.
Habit: Seen usually solitarily, in pairs or in small flocks hiding among the undergrowths. This bird forages primarily on the ground, where it hops here and there for insects and wroms. When disturbed, it will excitingly jerk its tail rapidly all the time. No breeding records is know from Thailand.
Status: This bird is a winter visitor and a passage migrant that are rarely found in Sakaerat forest. It is protected by law as a protected wild animal
