Characteristic: Size 14 cm. A diminutive bird of brilliantly- coloured plumage; a male has its head and nape shining green; cheeks and throat brown; underpart yellow; upperpart green with a patch of shining violet at the wing bend. A female is readily distinguished from those of other related species in larger in size; rather straight bill; underpart greenish yellow and a distinct yellow eyerings.
Distribution: Southeast Asia, the Sundas, the Philippines and Sulawesi.
Habitat: Forest edges, mangrove forest, coastal scrub forest, orchards, etc. In Sakaerat area, it inhabits both the dry dipterocarp forest and the forest plantations.
Habit: Seen in pairs perching high on tree tops or at flowers which they insert their long beaks to sip up the nectar; also waiting in the vicinity of flowering twigs for pollinating insects. It breeds from March to July; its flask-shaped nest will be hung from a twig of a bush, not high above the ground; its nest is built of gress stems, grass blades, leaves etc. fastened together firmly with spider with web, in which a clutch of 2 white or pinkish eggs will be laid. A female is solely responsible for gathering materials and constructing a nest; whereas a male will keep on controlling its nesting territory at the same time.
Status: An uncommon resident bird in Sakaerat forest. This sunbird is protected by the wildlife law as a protected wild animal
