Racket-tailed Treepie (Crypsirina temia)

Characteristic: Size 33 cm. A glossy black bird of the crow family. Its slender body is about the same length as its tail. Bill is robust and black in colour.
Distribution: The Sundas and SE Asia.
Habitat: Dry evergreen forest, dipterocarp forest, secondary growth, bamboo forest, and orchards.
Habit: Remains hidden out of sight in thick shrubs and dense bamboo clumps; so it is more often heard than seen. Diet comprises insects and ripe fruits. Breeding takes place between April-May, when a clutch of 2-4 eggs is laid.
Status: An uncommon resident.
