Characteristic: Size 28 cm. Similar to the common Oriental Magpie-Robin, only differing in plumage colour and a male with a much longer tail. Upperpart is shining black with contrasting white rump patch and chestnut belly.
Distribution: India, China, Hainan, the Andamans, the Greater Sundas and SE Asia.
Habitat: Dry evergreen forest, dipterocarp forest and bamboo forest.
Habit: Keeps to thick foliage all day long. Diet consists of worms, insects and small vertebrates. Breeds between March-May; when it constructs its nest in a hollow tree, rock crevices and deposits in it a clutch of 3-5 eggs. Incubation lasts about 10 days.
Status: Common resident.
