A preserved specimen of Scarites buparius from my collection. It was collected about 20 years ago in the south of Sardinia (near Cagliari).

Note
This Scarites buparius was first described by Forster in 1771 under the Latin name Tenebrio buparius from Spain. The head is very large and almost rectangular, with a large mandibles. The eyes are small.

The Scarites buparius is widespread throughout the Mediterranean area (Spain, France, Italy, Albania and Greece) as well as its Islands like the Canary Islands, Balearic Islands, Corsica, Sicily, Malta, Crete, Cyprus and of course Sardinia :) The species is also known to be present in some regions of North Africa.
