Homemade Five Spices Braised Beef
Five spices are Star anise (八角), Cloves (丁香), Cinnamon (肉桂), Peppercorns (花椒) and Fennel seeds (小茴香)
Instructions:
- Low heat cooking pot with 3 Tbsp of oil
- Add gingers, garlic and green onion lightly stir until turn to golden grown.
- Add 3 cups of water, 2 Tbsp of soy sauce and 2 Tbsp of cooking wine
- Add five spices (a lot of stores sell it like a teabag, you would need at least 2)
- Turn it high heat until it boiled, then turn to low heat for 1.5-2 hours.
- Optional: Boil some eggs and de-shell them, put them in the cooking pot for 30 minutes. (Normally at the end so that the juice has more favors)
- When the beef is done, take it out and let it cool off.
- The remaining of juice in the cooking pot can be used as dipping sauce.
- Cut the beef in thin slices and can be served in cold or warm temperature.
