Sega Saturn Disk Swapping Trick
OK, I HAVE JUST LEARNED THIS TRICK!, And it is awesome.
Now AS MOST OF YOU KNOW, THERE WERE TWO VERSION OF THE SATURN MODEL 1 AND MODEL 2.
MODEL 1: HAS OVAL POWER AND EJECT BUTTONS
MODEL 2: HAS ROUND POWER AND EJECT BUTTONS
THE VERSION I HAVE IS MODEL 2.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
- Saturn console
- Screw Driver
- Tape (duct, scotch, packing, etc...)
- original saturn game (any)
- backup cd-r saturn game.
WHAT TO DO:
1. - Unplug your saturn and rest it on the carpet or your lap or whatever makes you happy!
2. - Flip your saturn upside down, and use the screwdriver to unscrew the five screws. (be careful not to lose them)
3. - Turn your saturn back up, and press the open button. notice the hinge in the back left corner.
4. - pull off the top of your saturn (don't worry it comes right off)
5. - With the top off you will see the disk drive, to the left of the disk drive, you will see a lever, mostly plastic on model 2, this lever can be pushed back.
6. - Use the tape and tape the lever back, doing this will trick you saturn into thinking that the disk drive is always closed.
7. - Once you have tapped the lever, put the top back on. (do not put the screws back in)
8. - Pop in the original saturn game, and turn on your saturn, if you followed correctly so far, the game should start playing.
9. - turn off your saturn, remove the original saturn game.
10. - pop in your backup cd-r saturn game
NOW HERE COMES THE TRICKY PART
11. - turn on your saturn, make sure to listen to your saturn's drive sound.
12. - When you hear the laser slide to the back (towards the back of the console), quickly remove the disk and replace it with the original saturn game. Wait like 2 or 3 seconds
13. - when you hear the laser slide back towards you, remove the original saturn game and replace it with the back up cd-r saturn game. If done correctly the back up will load and start playing.
It will take a couple of tries to get it right, but once you do, it will become very easy.
This here is a link to a video showing you how it is done, This is for the model 2, if you have a model 1 it will be much easier for you.
