This month in Electric Dreams:
Lucid Dream Exchange editor Lucy Gillis offer ED readers a excerpt from the LDE, this month from researcher, author and lucid dream investigator, Clare Johnson. Clare is looking at just exactly what it is about lucid dreams that contribute most to the creative process of writing a novel. Is it the high level of perceptual realism, do lucid dreamers get closer to the core of archetypes, do lucid dreams dissolve creative blocks, promote spontaneity and deep dialogue? Read more in "The Role of Lucid Dreaming in the Process of Novel Writing."
ED welcomes back Stan Kulikowski II and is including a selection from his dream journal,
"imperfect motorcycle, perfectly human"
Although Dreamspace, Cyberspace, Hyperspace and PsiSpace all share a sense of being SOME place, the truth of the matter is a bit more slippery. In the article "Navigating in Dream Reality," Linda Lane Magallón looks at our common views and what past psi experiments reveal about these spaces.
Jean Campbell keep us up each month on the activities of The World Dreams Peace Bridge. Carlos Santana at the IASD conference? Well, he is expected to contribute to the WDPB silent auction/International Bazaar planned for the upcoming conference of The International Association for the Study of Dreams. Contributions will support the Peace Bridge Aid for Traumatized Children Project, helping children in war-torn Iraq.
G. W. Domhoff, Ph.D., has been researching dreams and dream theory since his pioneering work with Content Analysis researcher, Calvin Hall. In this issue, Domhoff replies and defends his position on the Senoi, and particularly responds to the article in Electric Dreams 11(12) by Strephon Kaplan-Williams. Are the Senoi real? Does its matter? What is fact and fiction? Should we pursue the truth or be content with the useful system whether it came from Kilton Stewart's fantasies or the tribal culture of the Senoi? Be sure to read "The Senoi Do Not Practice Senoi Dream Theory: A Reply To Strephon Kaplan-Williams."
Janet Garrett, who keeps up the wonderful collection of Electric Dreams articles, continues adding older issues to the collection. These articles contain a wide range of information for dreamers and dreamworkers. Dream-Tokens are lucid dream training tools. On the front of each coin is the image of a hand, reminding you to look at your hand to confirm the fact that you are dreaming. On the back is the challenging message: "This is a dream". By carrying this coin with you every day, you will be constantly reminded to ask yourself, "Am I dreaming?" Dream-Tokens are effective tools because they not only remind you to question reality, but also teach you a simple way to confirm and reinforce your lucid state. It is a complete training tool to help you acquire the skill of lucid dreaming.

As a former photojournalist, Laura Atkinson has explored the links between art, visual therapy, and the realities of the dream state for many years. Her work, while being a deeply personal exploration of her own dreams, jars the viewer with its beauty of light interplay, form, and design. Her work has a tactile beauty that brings viewers into her private world while simultaneously giving one the permission to touch, feel, and experience each piece, while making it part of his/her own world, language, and life. She has been also been studying and photographing energy fields using a Kirlian technique, discovering the wonders of digital photomontage, as well as working on a large, handpainted silk project involving 30 dreams that were submitted by various IASD members and friends.

About the image:
The actual dream behind the "Gumdrops from the Sky" image occurred during Harry Bosma's first session of the More Lucid Dreaming project in 2003. The importance of capturing the exact imagery of the dreamscape became so important to me, that the final image appeared a year after the actual dream itself. It evolved in stages starting from a simple second sketch and text in my dream journal, to an oil pastel sketch, to a final hour digital photomontage.
This ~is~ what I saw when I closed my eyes that night.

An Excerpt From The Lucid Dream Exchange
By Lucy Gillis
o|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|o
This month, Clare Johnson, doctoral student at the University of Leeds, England, shares with us her current work on the influence of lucid dreaming on the creative process, in particular novel writing.
*********
THE ROLE OF LUCID DREAMING IN THE PROCESS OF NOVEL WRITING
(c) Clare Johnson, England
I am a doctoral researcher with the University of Leeds, England, investigating the role of lucid dreaming in the process of novel writing. My research is rooted in practice as I am currently writing a novel which features lucid dreams, and I am exploring ways of drawing on lucid dreams for inspiration at each stage of the creative process. My research methodology includes a case study evaluation of professional writers, artists, musicians, and lucid dream researchers. Through these case studies, additional insights are acquired into the practical and theoretical possibilities of lucid dreaming as a creative tool across the arts.
In his 1908 paper, 'Creative Writers and Day-dreaming,' Freud compared the imaginative writer with the daydreamer. Both writers and artists slip into a vivid, guided daydream when they create a piece of work. This 'creative trance' represents a contrived balance between waking and dreaming consciousness. This state is similar to lucid dreaming, in which the dreamer wakes up inside the dream and can therefore guide and observe events. In both states, the unconscious is consciously accessed.
Lucid dreams have been known to eliminate creative blocks (Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming, LaBerge & Rheingold, 1990; The Committee of Sleep, Barrett, 2001) and sensory experience can be consciously extended in lucid dreams before being reproduced in a work of art or fiction. Similarly, lucid dreams can be used to advance a 'stuck' fictional plot, as the dreamer can actively create dialogues between fictional characters while lucid.
Questions which my research raises and considers are as follows:
* What is a 'creative trance' and how is it connected with lucid dreaming?
* Might the high level of perceptual realism in lucid dreams stimulate the imagination more than a state of daydream would?
* Could the practice of lucid dreaming bring writers and artists into closer contact with the imagery and archetypes prevalent in dreams?
* Could lucid dreams be useful in the elimination of creative blocks?
* What are the pitfalls of using lucid dreams to complement the creative process?
* What benefits could be had from writers entering into dialogue with their fictional characters during lucid dreams?
* Do lucid dreams cultivate spontaneity?
* Can lucid dreaming facilitate the creative flow of ideas in art and literature?
This study, while still in progress, provides evidence that lucid dreaming is a state predisposed to creativity and points to the conclusion that writers and artists stand to benefit from working with lucid dreams. I hope to present my work at the 2005 IASD Conference in California.
Currently I am looking specifically for lucid dreamers who have published novels or short stories. If you fit into this category and would be willing to help me with my research, please email me and I will send you a research questionnaire.

Writing, Dreaming and Lucid Art
One of the main characters in the novel I am writing for my PhD has a series of powerful lucid dreams which revolve around childhood memories. She turns the main images into collages. The idea for these collages came from my own early experience of lucid dreaming, as although I can't draw or paint, when I started consciously inducing lucid dreams in 1993 I was eager to find some means of representing them visually. I used a simple marbling technique, and combined this with images cut from magazines and old photographs.
Hands and eyes frequently crop up in my collages. The hands are linked to Carlos Castaneda's technique of focusing on your hands in a dream to stabilise the scene - a method which I have often successfully used to maintain lucidity - and the eyes represent the conscious gaze of the lucid dreamer. The bright, contrasting colours reflect the extreme visual clarity of lucid dreams. Below is a dream I had in 1998 in which my lucid dream collages appeared to remind me to stay lucid. A selection of my lucid dreams then follows, including the one which won first prize in the 2004 IASD Telepathy Contest.
Surreal art gallery
08/05/98
I am walking through a house and realise through a feeling of weightlessness that I am dreaming. I am instantly alert. It is like moving through a surrealist painting which has suddenly come to life; walls and ceilings are tilted at odd angles, objects emanate a brooding consciousness, colours are loud and shiny. I concentrate on the sensations of my dream body and experience a strange, squeezing resistance each time I lift my feet from the ground. I bounce my knees up and down as if I am cycling, and this takes me up into the air. I drift onto the landing of what has now become my family's house. I float horizontally for a moment, and then do a back-flip so that I am hanging upside-down. Everything looks as it would do in upside-down-vision in reality. I smile at the thought that my family are sleeping nearby oblivious of the fact that I am out here on the landing doing back-flips in my dream body.
Then I float into a different place where a girl is writing in a notebook. I glide over to read her words, hoping for dream guidance for my novel. To begin with, as my eyes skim the words, I understand the content perfectly, but as soon as I backtrack, I see the words mutating, turning into nonsensical, jumbled phrases. I laugh and point this out to the girl, explaining that this is a dream and so nothing is stable. She replies that while this is true, if you read very fast you can still get the essence. To demonstrate, she shows me a T-shirt she's just printed and tells me to read the text on it very fast. I do. It says, "The most powerful force in the universe is the will." Then I read it again slowly and it is gibberish. The girl is pleased to have proved her point.
I feel my lucidity spinning away from me. The girl has vanished. What to do?
I decide to look at my hands, and this is very odd as one of them looks normal but the other is grotesquely distorted and misshapen, like a Hall of Mirrors reflection. I remind myself that this is all an illusion, but still find I want to change my hand into something slightly more respectable. I attempt to do so with a flash of willpower. It calms down a little, but is still bloated. As I stare, it becomes a frightening skull-thing. At this point I get the impression that my real eyes have opened slightly in my bed, and I see there is a bit of duvet jutting directly in front of my vision - could this be the cause of the huge hand image? There is no time to speculate, and no way of telling if my real eyes did actually open or not, because I am directly back in the dream again. My hand has resumed normal proportions now and I am ready to explore some more, but I'm still struggling to get back to a state of strong lucidity.
For a moment, the dream scene acquires the texture of gravel and shifts sideways. As I start to slide with it, I catch a glimpse of one of my lucid dream collages, one with a dragon flying down over mountains. It has been blown up to poster size and is oddly elongated. This, I realise, is a mental reminder in my dream to remain alert. I am fully lucid again, and the dream scene stabilises accordingly. As I drift over to view my collage, I am distracted by another picture - not by me this time. It is of a woman sitting on a couch, painting a person sitting at an easel. It is a dark, slightly disturbing image, but I like it. I move on past other strange images, and the squeezing resistance in the air has returned. I can't move fast; it's like floating through deep space, except I am in this corridor-shaped art gallery. Further down the hall, I see another of my lucid dream collages, this one with a stretching purple hand. Being immersed in this glutinous air is making me feel sluggish. I want to keep looking at the pictures, but I also want to curl up and sleep. I lose lucidity.
Lucid Synaesthesia
03/04/03
I am lying on a beach watching cirrus clouds evaporate in a blue sky. A sense of spaciousness and possibility makes me realise I am dreaming. I pick up a handful of sand in my fist to test how real it feels. As the grains slide through my fingers I experience the texture as a colour; deep orange.
I look at my hand and it is full of this luminous orange.
I look back into the sky and there are coloured lights exploding across it.
For each colour of the spectrum, I hear a different sound. Some of the colours are musical tones, while others buzz or crackle. I remain lying on the sand for a long time, listening to this orchestra of colours.
Planets for Eyes
21/07/94
I am at a riotous party. People are playfully winding sari-like scarves around their limbs as they dance. I realise my feet are only grazing the ground when I walk. This reminds me of one of my earliest childhood memories, of floating down the stairs behind my mother at the age of three and calling to her to look. Disappointingly, by the time she'd turned around, my feet had settled back onto solid ground again.
I consider my current weightlessness and understand that I am dreaming. I weave through the dancing crowd and go into the bathroom. I peer at myself in the mirror which runs the length of the wall and grow fascinated by my eyes. They are large and shiny with huge dark pupils and as I watch the irises and pupils melt together and morph into two planet Earths which begin to spin slowly. The world is in my eyes, and I am in the world, I think. I float closer and closer to my reflection, thinking how curious it is that in this dream, I have planets for eyes. I get so close I can see the oceans and mountains, like a satellite picture. My nose bumps into the cold mirror. I wake up.
Hunting for Fictional Characters
21/11/03
I'm standing around with people at a party. "Of course," says a young man in a brown leather jacket, "in dreams, you can float." I immediately glance down at my feet and see I am floating several inches from the ground. Well, I think, this is a lucidity cue I couldn't miss even if I wanted to. I propel myself instantly upward and out of the window, moving my feet and arms in the way I would when swimming up to the surface of a pool after diving in. I shoot up into a beautiful sky overlooking grassy lawns with wooden picnic tables and people drinking in the sun. It's very detailed, with vivid colours. As real as reality - except I'm hovering about 15 metres above it all.
I remember my decision to meet Alida (the main character in my novel) in my next lucid dream, and taking a deep breath, I shout at the top of my lungs, "ALIDA!" It is hugely liberating to shout like this in the fresh air. Some of the drinkers glance up at me in amusement but do not seem surprised. I recall reading the other day the opinion of Russian philosopher Ouspensky that lucid dreamers cannot pronounce their own names in a lucid dream without waking up. This scene is so solid and my lucidity so matter-of-fact that I decide to try it. Deep breath. Then I shout my name on a long breath, as loudly as I can. "CLARE!"
Nothing happens, not even a tremor in the scene. I laugh and do it again. It feels so totally as if I'm really shouting that I wouldn't be surprised if my body in bed was also shouting something in my sleep. Still hovering, I wonder if perhaps what Ouspensky meant was that lucid dreamers can't say their names in a dream and simultaneously sleep-talk the word aloud in their bedrooms without waking up. This idea intrigues me, and I ponder it until I realise that the thought of my real mouth and vocal chords is now making me feel less lucid. The scene has grown somehow sparser and less colourful.
I pull myself together abruptly by concentrating on two men below me who are chatting. I swoop in low and eavesdrop on their conversation, which is in German. I then soar over the picnic area asking random people, "have you seen Alida?" Nobody has. This is the same lucidity I had in a dream a week ago; strong and sure and effortless. I let go of the idea of looking for Alida, since she doesn't appear to be here and the thought of trying to conjure her up doesn't appeal.
The sun is glancing off the heads of the drinkers and flashing in their eyes when they laugh. I swim through the air with expansive strokes of my arms, twisting my body into lazy somersaults and letting the hum of conversation wash over me.
Tandem Flight
29/01/94
I am on a bridge which is covered in foliage. There are dead birds littered all over it and this upsets me. I cross the bridge carefully, trying not to step on their tiny bodies. As I am about to descend the other side, I see the tail of a dead squirrel sticking out from the greenery at an odd angle.
I feel a strong reluctance to walk past it. "Why does everything have to be dead?" I ask aloud, looking around me. Then the realisation comes to me that I am in a dream, and that nothing has to be dead after all.
I jump boldly from the bridge. For a split second, I don't start to float as I'd expected, but then I do. I drift down into a field and recall my intention to find R in my next lucid dream. I concentrate totally on him. "I am now going to find R," I say with great conviction. I run into the air and circle around about 30 feet up. I see a beautiful valley to my left and am tempted to go there but remember that I must find R and not get distracted, or I'll lose lucidity. I will him to come to me, and can't seem to get him at first - I'm not sure where to start looking in such an unfamiliar setting. Then I look down at the ground and to my amazement R is standing there wearing his big duffle coat. I call to him to come and fly with me, and remind him that we are dreaming. He looks up, and suddenly I am very close to his face. He looks deep into my eyes and confesses that he doesn't know how to fly.
I tell him I will help him, and I grab his arm and lift him into the air. He is quite hard to lift so our take-off isn't exactly smooth, but we are both feeling really good, flying higher and higher. Suddenly R understands how to fly alone. We fly independently of each other over hills and fields, and I have the vision of a kestrel; I can see the petals on yellow flowers far below, and the quiver of butterfly wings. I notice detail after detail, until at some point one of these bright details sucks me in and the dream changes.
Dream Telepathy and Tree Shouting
20/06/04
In a Copenhagen youth hostel at around midnight, I conjure up a strong visual memory of Beverly D'Urso standing in the auditorium a few hours earlier, clutching the envelope with the dream telepathy image in it and inviting us to dream of her. 'Okay, Beverly,' I think. 'I'm listening.' Then I drop straight into an exhausted sleep. Several hours later I wake up feeling thirsty and drink some water. I think briefly of the telepathy contest and scan my dreams but they are just a tangled bulge of impressions from the conference. I wonder what the telepathy image might be, and go straight back to sleep again. This time the sleep is a lighter one.
Green begins to seep into my dreams. It hangs in translucent blocks of colour as a backdrop to the dream action. It reflects off people's faces.
Soon I am surrounded by it and the scene morphs into a spacious park full of big old trees. The air is fresh and I feel happy. I am wandering around with IASD members, commenting on the greenness. In the distance, a woman's voice is shouting 'Tree! Tree!' as if she has just discovered the answer to some fundamental question. I glance in the direction of the shouts but see no-one. I hesitate, looking into the woods, but I'm not lucid at this point and I'm caught up in the pleasant social interaction with the other dream characters. I feel it would be rude to leave them.
Later, we are all at the conference site in a high-ceilinged room, discussing the dream telepathy contest. I see Beverly across the room and know that I'm dreaming this. Beverly looks cheerful but I think she's got to be tired since she must be having a sleepless night trying to transmit the image. I ask her how she is feeling. She flings her arms out, grinning, and says, "I've just been shouting the word inside my head!"
"That's interesting," I say, "because in my last dream, people were shouting about trees." I want to ask her outright if tree is the image she is projecting, but think this might be cheating. A woman across the room says excitedly, "I've been getting that, too. Tree shouting." We get into a discussion about the nature of greenness. Is green a positive or negative colour? We agree that it is both dark and light. Deep and beautiful.
Then the scene changes and I am alone before an image of a big leafy tree.
Even the background is green. I remember that the IASD people said we should try to draw the images we see tonight in our dreams. Dutifully, I take a pen and paper but I am no good at copying things and there is a pale patch of brown down to the left of the picture which is distracting me as I draw. It might be an owl. I try to draw it and as it seems to want to speak I give it a speech bubble, but then can't think of words to put in it. I scribble the owl out and glance again between my spindly, inaccurate drawing and the serene tree before me.
It finally dawns on me that trying to draw the dream image is a waste of time, since I'm dreaming and nothing more than the memory of this whole scene will remain with me when I wake up. I toss the pen and paper aside in relief and look again at the tree image. Then, very slowly, I wake up. I am smiling in the dark. 'The telepathy picture really might be a tree,' I think. Since I am in a youth hostel sharing a room with 11 other girls, I can't switch on the light and record the dream, so I just go over it in my head and go back to sleep until morning.
The moment my alarm clock goes off, I snap into ultra-organised mode, as my plane is leaving that afternoon and I need to get packed up and then race over the river to catch a few final workshops at the conference. I scribble down the tree dream in disjointed sentences, but in the cold light of morning I am convinced I haven't accurately dreamed the image. I push the telepathy contest to the back of my mind.
When I walk into the second or third workshop of the day, Beverly is sitting there. "I had a dream about you last night," I tell her, and recount the dream. When I've finished, she asks me if I've entered the contest and I say no. She asks me if I've seen the four images and I say no. Then she tells me I should write down exactly what I've just told her and hurry over to Registration and enter my dream before the competition closes. The workshop is about to start and I don't feel I can just run out of there but in the end Beverly says, "Clare, you've just exactly described one of the images.
You should definitely enter the contest."
When I get to Registration with the slip of paper upon which I scribbled down my dream, there are three images which don't resonate with me at all, and on the end is a picture of the tree I tried to draw in my dream. I return to the workshop and can't concentrate on anything the presenter is saying.
As I had to fly home that day, I missed the dream ball and so only discovered a few days later that I'd won the contest. I was intrigued to learn that Beverly did actually shout about trees inside her head while attempting to communicate the image. This experience has given me food for thought concerning receptiveness in lucid dreams. I'm certain I'll be able to work it into my research, or my novel... or both.

Navigating in Dream Reality
By Linda Lane Magallón
o|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|o
A while ago, I sent out an e-mail notice, inviting dreamers to a party. There was to be a waking event that folks could attend in the physical world. But for those who couldn't go, I proposed they drop by anyway, after they fell asleep. One guest e-mailed me back, asking for directions to the party. I was a bit nonplussed. Sure, I could tell him how to get to Mountain View, California, if he was planning to come in the waking state. But he wasn't. He wanted to visit in his dreams. How can you point out a place in hyperspace when there isn't any "there" there?
A Place in Hyperspace
The notion that a journey in psychic reality is like a trip in physical reality comes from first-hand accounts of the out-of-body experience and its cousin, remote viewing. The idea is that, even if you don't take your material body along for the ride, you can nonetheless travel to or tune into a specific location in the physical world. Or, if you journey beyond the material world, you will travel in a world as stable as physical reality. This notion of a fixed traveling space has persisted throughout the ages.
However, in recent times, folks have begun to take a second look. And a third. The long-term spiritual seeker will start to notice that physical reality isn't as solid as it's cracked up to be (this is called "enlightenment.") The truly intrepid explorer will persist long enough to realize that he has had illusions about hyperspace, too (I call this "endarkenment" _ ). At least in private, such explorers are reluctantly admitting that hyperspace is neither essentially fixed nor does it perfectly adhere to the laws of the material world.
In retrospect, this should be obvious. If hyperspace were as fixed as we'd like it to be, there'd be no need to prove psi. You could have verifiable experiments that would be replicated with predictable results that no skeptic would question. And if hyperspace were fixed, there would no longer be umpteen descriptions of the spiritual far reaches. The otherworld would be so concrete, you could map it or give literal directions: shimmy up the world pole, ferry across the River Styx, take an elevator to the 3rd astral plane, hang a right at the pearly gates ...
A Slip in Time
A good contender for the most stringently controlled psi experiments of the last century is that type of waking psi called remote viewing. Viewers were directed to perceive places in the physical world. Originally, experimenters used actual latitude and longitude for target locations. They soon discovered that any coordinate would do the trick. "5.5 by XYZ" allows you to tune into New York City, as long as you have the intent to go to New York City. In fact, you might as well drop coordinates altogether. It's the intent that counts.
One of the most literal perceivers, Pat Price, once remote viewed a building and reported that it contained a lot of beds and many injured people. There weren't any: the building was being used an embassy. So Price's attempt was considered a "miss." A miss, that is, until someone bothered to look up the history of the location and discovered the embassy had been a girls' school dormitory prior to World War II. It had also been used as a hospital during the war. It was as if Pat picked up the "echo" of the previous tenants of that world-space. It's interesting to note that these sorts of "echoes" can come from the future as well as the past.
So when I read that famous explorer Robert Monroe had gone out-of-body to the house of OBE researcher Charles Tart, I wasn't surprised to hear that Monroe had envisioned some people in the room who weren't actually there at the time of his journey. They may have been past or future echoes, instead.
The Energy of Meeting
Since hyperspace is slippery in time and space, it can be difficult to conceive of a connection there. Where do dreamers focus? And when? Use of a known place and date satisfies the needs of the waking self for orientation. But the dreaming self isn't magnetized by space-time so much as it is attracted by hyperspace energy. The intensity of a place, person or event is often the determining factor in order to recall a spontaneous psychic dream. If it works for spontaneity, why not for intentional dreaming?
And that's exactly why I suggested that people who weren't coming in the waking state try to come in the dream. There was going to be a lot of human energy at the party location and a better-than-average opportunity to attract psychic attention. Even if dreamers didn't dream up Mountain View, per se, they might still get corresponding dreams. A guest's dream activities might match the events of the day, or of the dream of another dreamer, whether that person attended the physical party or not.
It wasn't necessary to dream at a particular time. Some dreamers, who were planning to attend in the waking state, had dreams of the party the night beforehand and brought them to the party to share with other guests. They might find that their dreams were precognitive. Dreamers not present at the party could also dream the night afterwards or take an afternoon nap while it was happening. Because hyperspace isn't fixed in time, it really doesn't matter when you download your corresponding dream. Remember, when an e-mail notice "happens" in cyberspace and when you retrieve it are often two different times. When a dream "happens" in hyperspace and when you retrieve it doesn't have to be the same time, either.
And by the way, exactly "where" in cyberspace is that e-mail notice, anyway?

THE VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE
March 2005
Carlos Santana Comes to IASD Conference
Jean Campbell
o|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|o
For the past month, a main topic of discussion among members of The World Dreams Peace Bridge has been the silent auction/International Bazaar planned for the upcoming conference of The International Association for the Study of Dreams. From Turkey, Ilkin Sungu is sending a delectable combination of jewelry, beaded key chains and embroidered towels and scarves. Art Funkhouser is bringing Swiss chocolate. Members of the Bridge from Australia hope to provide Aboriginal paintings. And from California, many-times Grammy award winner Carlos Santana is expected to provide an autographed poster, his contribution to the auction, which will support the Peace Bridge Aid for Traumatized Children Project, helping children in war-torn Iraq.
How did this auction come into being? The World Dreams Peace Bridge is a demonstration of dreams in action.
Months ago, when members of the Peace Bridge discovered that Seasons Art School in Baghdad, Iraq was about to lose its funding from the UNICEF grant which sustained it through 2004, Ilkin asked the members of Harry Bosma's Psi Angels to dream about ways to do fundraising for the school. Among other things, what the Angels came up with was the idea of contacting celebrities and maybe hosting a fundraising concert.
As a result, Ilkin (who recalls dreaming about Santana at the time), contacted The Milagro Foundation, operated by the Santana family to create miracles for children around the world. And, after some months of proposal writing by Peace Bridge members, the foundation not only provided a $5,000 grant to Seasons Art School for 2005, but also promised an item for the upcoming auction. Harry's Angels, who have been regularly donating their services to IASD's monthly Online Auction, are participants in the conference auction too, since many of the Angels already belong to the Peace Bridge.
With the funding provided by The Milagro Foundation, the World Dreams Peace Bridge has seen the beginning of another dream, a piece of work called "Dreams and the Children of Baghdad." Supported by members of the Peace Bridge, the staff of Seasons Art School has begun to collect, and translate into English, dreams from the children who attend the school. The first of these dreams arrived this month, and are a poignant reminder of the war that is still going on in Iraq. For the children of SAS have never known anything in their brief lives but war, sanctions, and repression.
"Dreams and the Children of Baghdad," we hope, will become a way for children to express their dreams in writing and drawing, and for the staff of SAS to become familiar with Western methods for working with dreams, as well as for members of the Peace Bridge to become familiar with approaches toward dreaming used in the Middle East.
Here are just two of the drams sent to us this month from the children of Iraq:
Name: Zeinab
Age: 12
Gender: female
She dreamed that she was planting some flowers and small trees. She was making her own garden and yes successfully she did that after great efforts. But the war took place and she had to leave her house with her family. After their returning, she found that her garden had completely destroyed. Though she didn't give up, she started to plant and re-made her garden once again.
Name: Sarah
Age: 16
Gender: female
She had told us one of her dreams. One night she had dreamed that she and some of her friends were making some artworks (stars but of different shapes) and while they were making them, they looked at the sky and wished they could fly to hang their stars beside those already exist there. Suddenly they found themselves flying up to the sky carrying the stars and hanging them one by one. When they finally did that and returned to earth, they saw the sky shining by the stars. Their stars were representing their dreams, so they sky was shining with stars of different meanings. Star for PEACE, star for JUSTICE, star for LOVE AMONG PEOPLE WORLDWIDE and star for CHILDREN`S RIGHTS...etc. all people all over the world have seen the stars.
If you would like to contribute to the silent auction/International Bazaar for the conference, or look at some of the wonderful items already donated, go to http://www.worlddreamspeacebridge.org/asdauction/auction.htm where Peace Bridge web designer, Liz Diaz, has created an entire set of pages for the auction. Or cash to donations for Aid for Traumatized Children work can be given directly at http://www.worlddreamspeacebridge.org.
On the Peace Bridge, we believe that all people of the world long for peace and long for connectedness. We can reach out to one another through our dreams, and through our dreams we can connect with the children of the world. As our logo explains, "There can never be too many people dreaming of Peace."

Dream: imperfect motorcycle, perfectly human
Stan Kulikowski II
o|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|o
DATE : 11 mar 2005 16:05
DREAM : imperfect motorcycle, perfectly human
=( i woke this morning with the alarm at 09:00 and got up to go teach my friday morning class at 11:00. i did not get much sleep last night, probably about three hours, but i felt better than i had any day this week. i have had a cold all week, but i managed to make go into work. last night i did not want to take any more of the sleeping pills i had used the two nights before, so it was more difficult to get back to sleep. so today i am mostly better, but lacking some sleep. i rode my motorcycle to work as i usually do, taught my class on web programming, stopped at a pet store to buy crickets for my skink, then came home. since i was short on sleep, i laid down took a nap around 14:00 as i had most days this week. )=
i wake up just briefly on the upper shelf where i had lain down to take a nap. i say something that i do not remember even as i say it and feel a warm object that is put on my chest. it is a baby, a newborn. i am careful to support its head and neck as i roll over, but soon i fall back to sleep just for a moment, but that is enough for me to lose track of where the baby is.
marsha marshall climbs up on the lower shelves to get the baby back from me, but i have to feel around to find it. it has rolled over into the crack between the shelf and the wall and has gotten itself wedged in there. with a little bit of difficulty i manage to get it out and give it to her. i know i have to be careful with its head.
i climb down from the shelf and leave the pet store in the shopping center where i woke up. behind me i hear marsha yell at me that i did not keep very good care of this baby but i do not know what i could do any better as i was really mostly asleep when she gave it to me.
outside i have trouble finding where i parked my motorcycle. there are about ten bikes parked on small metal lifts that push them up a few feet, protecting them from automobiles, but you have to pay money in the coin slots for these , and i know i did not pay anything where i parked my bike. working my way through the cars, i see a few motorcycles parked out near the edge of the lot, but none of them are mine when i get there.
soon i see a motorcycle repair shop and i ask one of the salespeople there if they know what may have happened to my bike since it is not anywhere in the lot. "yes," he replies "if you did not pay for parking, we have probably hauled it inside. you have to pay."
he looks into his pad of work orders and finds a honda shadow that is probably mine. i am worried that it will cost more than i have, but he finally says "you owe $10.56." which i can pay. i count the money out of my money clip from my pocket.
the motorcycle which they bring me has been substantially changed.
its balance is different as i swing my leg over the gas tank. the handlebars have been shortened and i can barely find the left footpeg and shift bar. when i start up the bike and give it some gas, the shift bar keeps slipping from where i can reach it. i have to try to hold it forward with my foot, but it keeps returning to a position behind my foot so i can not shift properly.
also, i do not have my helmet which i need to leave the parking lot.
once i have made a complete circuit of the shopping center, mostly in first gear since i can not shift, i pull up to tree that was left to grow out of the pavement. there are several helmets perched on cut off branches of the tree. i find a soft inner liner of a helmet then try a couple of the hard shells to see if i like the feel. there is a large one that flares out front and back which seems to fit snug on the liner. "that is a german army helmet." the salesman tells me.
"it is rare that they are still around since the tank drivers still want them."
i leave my motorcycle back near the pet store.
marsha and i hurry across the parking lot of the shopping center, keeping out of sight between the cars. we are both still young, maybe in our early twenties. whatever we had been doing before this, we have not been seen by other people until now so now it is too late to trust anyone other than ourselves.
the unseen alien invaders have finally perfected the perfectly human substitutes and we have discovered the entry point nearby here. the trouble is that we have no way of knowing who is the real human we may have known for years from the doppleganger who is just here and we can only trust each other so long as we stay in each others sight.
if we can find our substitutes and kill them before they get out of this parking lot, then we will have a base of trust from which we can begin to resist the extraterrestrials.
there are no set of questions or lack of responses that we can devise to tell who is real and who has been faked. how can we build an organization from only us two?
=( i am awake at 15:55 on the bedside clock. i rarely dream when i take an afternoon nap, but there are a lot of immediate associations
in this dream. marsha marshall is the girl who lived next door to
my parent's house where i grew up. i have not seen her since high school graduation, but somehow we have managed to keep in distant contact. she has lived in arizona most of her life, and we exchange letters or cards or whatnot every couple years. i was in a pet store in a shopping center just this afternoon. i bought 30 crickets to feed my skink, a local lizard which i have kept in a tank for the last two years. i buy crickets for it every week or so. i should have called the honda shop in town before i fell asleep to check if my parts order had come in. i ordered some $300 in electric parts for my bike last week and was told they would probably be in by tuesday, but of course the shop has not called to confirm their arrival. it takes me almost an hour to drive across town, so it is a hassle when they do not call when the parts arrive. since i missed them during hours they are open today, i have to wait until tuesday next week if i do not remember to call in before saturday noon tomorrow. my motorcycle is still working, but it is not getting a proper charge on its battery until i replace the regulator which had shorted and burnt one of its wires. i have soldered in a patch until the replacement arrives. i will probably not be able to fix this weekend now that i missed the phone call. that is the association that i have with the motorcycle dream content. it is rare that i have such direct connections to waking life concerns in my dreams.
marsha's involvement in this seems to reach back to the end of childhood. i did not feel that the baby in this was either hers or mine, but belonged to the owner of the pet store. neither of us ever had any children in our adult lives. i wonder what the perfectly human substitution for myself entails? probably a wish that i were better than myself but knowing that i need to recognize and maybe protect those imperfections that make me myself. still, i wish that i had lived better than i did. )=

The Senoi Do Not Practice Senoi Dream Theory:
A Reply To Strephon Kaplan-Williams
G. William Domhoff, Ph.D.
o|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|o
This article is in response to:
Kaplan-Williams, Strephon (2004). Revisiting the Senoi Dream Theory: The Bad Logic of Sir G. William Domhoff. Electric Dreams 11(12).
http://tinyurl.com/3sdvm
Just as Jeremy Taylor is "seriously misinformed" about everything having to do with the Senoi between 1930 and 1948, so too is Strephon Kaplan-Williams completely wrong in his comments on a reply I wrote to an article by Taylor in the late 1990s.
Although my exchange with Taylor was long ago, I am glad to have another opportunity to comment on the issues raised by Kaplan-Williams for two reasons. First, I sense that most dreamworkers agree with Taylor, Kaplan-Williams, and Patricia Garfield in regard to Senoi dream practices even though every anthropologist of the 20th century who studied the issue would say they are wrong. Second, I recently updated my original study of Senoi Dream Theory with new evidence and put it on my web site at dreamresearch.net for anyone who wants to judge the arguments and evidence for themselves:
http://psych.ucsc.edu/dreams/Library/senoi.html
Kaplan-Williams is first of all wrong to say that I made a "personal attack" or "ad hominem" argument. Saying someone is "wrong" ("seriously misinformed") about a specific issue is not a personal attack. If I had claimed Taylor is unintelligent, or biased, or politically motivated, or some other untrue and irrelevant point, it would be a "personal attack." But I am simply saying that he is factually wrong about every claim he made about the Senoi between before 1948 when it comes to Senoi Dream Theory.
Secondly, Kaplan-Williams is wrong to say that I use "logic" in refuting Taylor, In fact, I use evidence related to the 1930s and 1940s, the time period for which Kaplan-Williams keeps insisting there is no evidence except that presented by Stewart. Since Stewart was there in the 1930s and everything else is from a later date, says Kaplan-Williams, Stewart's claims therefore have to be taken as believable unless they can be shown to be wrong with information from that time period.
Well, there is evidence from that time period. Most of all, it was provided by the new-found friend who hosted Stewart's visit to the Senoi, H. D. Noone. Trained as an anthropologist, and able to speak the native language, Noone discussed Senoi dream beliefs in his 1936 monograph without any reference to any of the dream practices talked about by Stewart. He also gave examples of murders by Senoi, which contradicts Stewart's claim that the Senoi are a completely non-violent people.
Taylor says, in effect, that evidence from after 1948 does not count. That's because the culture of the Senoi allegedly was destroyed, or taken underground, due to the sporadic counterinsurgency war the British, along with their mainstream Malaysian allies, fought against the Malaysian Communist Party between 1948 and 1952, a party based in Chinese immigrants to Malaysia and backed by the Chinese Communist Party. Part of that guerilla war took place in the highlands where the Senoi lived. Some Senoi fought alongside the British, but others were put into encampments for many months to insure their villages could not be sources of support for the Communists. Still, most Senoi were not rounded up, and many of those who were soon made their way back to the jungle.
Be all that as it may for the moment, what about interviews in the early 1960s with Senoi from the 1930s who worked with Noone and Stewart? Do they count? Such interviews, by Robert K. Dentan, an anthropologist who lived with the Senoi for months in one of the same settlements studied by Noone, and knew the language well, reports that these holdovers from the 1930s say that they never practiced the kind of Senoi Dream Theory Stewart claims to have discovered. This is in fact devastating evidence as far as I am concerned. It was Dentan's fine work that led me to do further work on the issue.
There is now new evidence from the late 1940s. It is from a man, John D. Leary, who was active on the British side in the counterinsurgency war. In 1995 he used government documents and interviews to write a detailed book on the role of the Senoi in that war. As one small part of that book, he commented on a key aspect of Stewart's claims:
"On a number of occasions when I had cause to stay overnight in Senoi huts, either on ambush, for the tribal groups' protection, or just for shelter, I did not see any of the after-breakfast gathering of parents and children to discuss their previous night's dreams; most Orang Asli [the anthropological term for indigenous people in Malaysia] did not seem to have any kind of formal meal in the morning." (See my on-line updated book for this and other citations in this reply.)
Leary's comment about "no formal meal" fits exactly with an account of the morning habits of Senoi by a British man who married a Senoi woman in the 1930s and lived with her group.
Kaplan-Williams says I describe my "witnesses" as "infallible." To the contrary, my main point would be that multiple fallible witnesses who knew the language said roughly the same things, which lends credibility to their general account.
Kaplan-Williams is annoyed that I would doubt the reliability of Stewart, but who would you believe, Stewart or the people I cite in my on-line update of my book, if you knew the following about Stewart from archival documents and interviews with people who knew him?
1. Stewart had no training in anthropology at the time. He was a self-described vagabond who loved to travel around the world on tramp steamers. (He earned a Ph.D. in anthropology after World War II.)
2. He had no knowledge of the Senoi or any intention to visit them until he met Noone (quite by accident) and was invited to go along on a survey expedition of Senoi groups.
3. He did not know the language.
4. He spent at most 6-8 weeks with Senoi groups on two separate visits in the 1930s.
5. There is no mention in his dissertation of the elaborate Senoi Dream Theory he later attributed to the Senoi.
6. As already noted, several of the claims Stewart made in the 1950s about the Senoi and their dream theory are contradicted by what his friend Noone wrote in the 1930s, and by what Senoi who were young adults in the 1930s told Dentan in the 1960s.
7. The people who knew Stewart best in the 1930s, including one former teacher, Dorothy Nyswander, and one of the foremost anthropologists in the world, Edmund Leach, and one of his own brothers, Omer C. Stewart, a highly respected empirical anthropologist at the University of Colorado, all told me that Stewart was a storyteller and raconteur whose claims were not taken seriously by those who knew him.
Kaplan-Williams leaves out a key issue in my exchange with Taylor. As noted, Taylor claims that Senoi cultural practices were either destroyed or taken underground during the battle between the British and the communists in Malaysia. Based on this claim, Taylor argues that studies of the Senoi after, say, 1948 are not relevant to whether they practiced Senoi Dream Theory in the 1930s.
But work with Senoi in the most remote highlands of Malaysia by the British anthropologist Geoffrey Benjamin, who has taught at the University of Singapore for decades, shows there was in fact great cultural continuity into the 1960s. Benjamin told me that Taylor overstates the degree to which the counterinsurgency of the 1940s disrupted Senoi culture. If this point is granted, then Benjamin's work on Senoi spiritual beliefs, which reveals a complex and subtle belief system, but nothing we would recognize as "Senoi Dream Theory," stands as further evidence that Stewart was not a reliable observer.
It is within this evidentiary context that I raised my point about Taylor's approach not being a scientific one when he focuses on an anecdote relating to H. D. Noone's death that is provided by a Senoi in captivity. I said the crucial issue is the comparison of rival
hypotheses for their ability to explain the most systematic and reliable evidence currently available, not whether there is some faint hope that the most unlikely hypothesis just possibly may be true based on an anecdote in a popular book. I said that if Senoi Dream Theory is to be given the benefit of an alleged "reasonable doubt" on this slim basis, then any unlikely hypothesis can hang on forever in the dream community, deadening the impetus to entertain new hypotheses and collect new data, which are the lifeblood of science. The whole enterprise becomes futile, frozen in rival camps. No common ground is possible. People new to dreams have to decide whether to join the Freudian camp, the Jungian camp, the Gestalt camp , the Senoi camp, or some other camp.
I think the argument about Senoi Dream Theory is a crucial one for all dreamworkers to face in terms of their general stance toward science and evidence. Where a person stands on whether the Senoi practiced Senoi Dream Theory is a crucial litmus test. Basically, if a person insists that the Senoi practiced Senoi Dream Theory in the face of the existing evidence, then I would say he or she does not take a scientific approach. More generally, to the degree that the dreamwork community as a whole still believes in Senoi Dream Theory, and proscribes anyone who raises questions, it is frozen in time, unable to move forward to a solid basis for its work.
I received some intimations on all this when I was on a panel at ASD in the mid-1990s with Taylor and other advocates of Senoi Dream Theory. Indeed, it was this panel that led to the written exchange between Taylor and me that has belatedly come to Kaplan-Williams' attention. Although the packed audience was polite to me, it was clear that everyone believed Taylor and the other advocates. At the very least, ASD was providing a forum for all viewpoints in just the way Kaplan-Williams says it doesn't on this issue.
One person renowned as a psychic gave me an insight into this preference when he said that my arguments at the panel session sounded solid enough, but that his own experience predicting the future based on psychic experiences led him to side with Taylor. In case my point is not completely clear, I mean that it looks to me like the tribe has to back one of its own, and Taylor is certainly a leading member of the dreamwork tribe. I don't know of any dreamworker who has ever publicly disagreed with Taylor, or Patricia Garfield, about Senoi Dream Theory. If there is evidence to the contrary, I'd be happy to hear about it.
In closing, I do agree with Kaplan-Williams when he says that I should "try and come up with some great positive results about dreams and dreaming that you created yourself." I agree because I know it is all too easy to be a critic. Anyone can be a critic. That's why I like the hard work that Dentan, Benjamin and another anthropologists did to teach us about what Senoi actually believe and do.
It's also why I have spent most of my dream research time doing empirical studies of dream content, where I think that Calvin S. Hall, his colleagues, and his students have come up with the kind of new results Kaplan-Williams is talking about. Most of that information is summarized on our web site at dreamresearch.net, especially in the on-line version of Finding Meaning of Dreams, a book published in 1996. It contains every finding with the Hall/Van de Castle coding system up until that time.

Those findings, in turn, fit with some theories better than others, and they led us to try out some new ideas of our own. They led me from a generally psychodynamic theory of dreams to a cognitive approach, and more recently to a neurocognitive approach, which can be sampled at

Trying to do empirical research on any topic is a humbling experience. It makes you realize how difficult it is to come up with any solid results. Doing research makes one skeptical of all-knowing critics, and also of high-sounding theorists who have never bothered to do any actual research. Looking back over many years, and later results, we turned out to be wrong many times. That's why my theoretical orientation changed over the years.
For my money, Stewart is just another high-sounding theorist. As everyone who ever knew him told me, he was a big talker who was not believed by anyone who knew him at the time. He didn't do any of the kind of research that Kaplan-Williams advocates for me.
But when Stewart's writings from the 1950s were picked up by people in the 1960s who did not know him, people who were imbued with the spirit of the human potential movement, they were prepared to believe him with little or no hesitation. As I argue in my on-line update on the Senoi, his claims became one key basis for the dreamwork movement that Kaplan-Williams helped found, even if those new to the dreamwork movement do not realize the important role Stewart's ideas played.
Let's face it. The Senoi never practiced Senoi Dream Theory. Which always leads me to ask: What else do we currently believe that will turn out not to be correct? I hope Kaplan-Williams and others in the field of dreams sometimes ask themselves the same question.

Dream title: Praying angel
Dream date: 1994
Dreamer name: Heartouch
Dream text: I found myself in a sort of black granite maze with walls at least 12 feet tall. The place was illuminated by a light source that was unseen. There was no roof on the maze and while looking up, I saw darkness. I stood in a corridor looking down to what seemed a maybe 12 foot by 12 foot no exit room with a granite altar in the middle. I looked up and saw a majestic angel in white, with a beautiful light surrounding (her)? She gently floated down and began to pray at the altar. I felt as though she was praying for me.
Dream comments: Does anyone have any insight?
Dream title: Hanging
Dream date: 02-22-05
Dreamer name: midnight
Dream text: I was in a dark room with my mother and sister; the only light coming in was from the moonlight. My mother and I walked out of the room and as we re-entered, I found my sister hanging, slanted at an angle not only from her neck, but with her feet wrapped as if her feet were wrapped in web. She was in a position as if her body had been in a web. I began to yell and cry, and my mother and I rapidly took her down. My sister then began to move and gasping for air. This is where I woke up because my cell phone rang from a text.

Dream text: I dreamed of my deceased husband; he was in a big field chained at his ankle to the ground. I was behind a chain link fence. I dug under the fence enough to get my arm under and grasped a rock then I beat the chain until he was free. Suddenly the sky grew dark and a huge winged beast appeared over head. Then Michael looked at me and said "Why did you do that? Now I am no longer safe." What do you think of this?
Dream comments: What do you think of this?
Dream title: water
Dream date: 02/02/05
Dreamer name: Sy
Dream text: Every so often I dream of drowning in water.
Dream comments: Somebody close has already died from drowning; I'm scared it might happen again.
Dream title: None
Dream date: none given
Dreamer name: anonymous
Dream text: I walk downstairs to my living room towards the Christmas tree. All of the presents were gone and I was totally confused. The presents were all outside all ripped apart and messed up. Then I started crying because everything was gone and my dad was saying it was my fault for putting the presents near a power bar, or something that got hot. Some people came in and helped to save us by throwing the presents outside. I am still crying because I was getting blamed. Then we found some of the presents in the cupboard.
Then the scene changes and I'm sitting in class at school, which suddenly changes to sitting in the auditorium. I was singing in this funny high pitched voice, and this girl came up to me and said she liked me and I said she was nice. Suddenly she started taking off her pants and I said "you better look behind you" because the vice principal was behind her. The VP pulls her and points to me and says come with me. Then I found out I'm suspended for so long and I have detention. I just start crying because I've never been suspended and this is going to make me look bad with my reputation etc. Then I'm sitting in class and the VP tells me to follow her through the cafeteria. So we're walking through the cafe and some kid spilled juice all over, so she had to deal with that student first. Then as I'm standing there I see an old lady who slipped and fell on the ground, I help her up and realized this lady looks sort of like my grandma who just died. Then I called the old lady the name that I called my grandma that no one else did. And she said something like "I used to have a grandson or granddaughter who called me that". But I didn't really hear that part well. Then I told her my grandma had just died and I started crying and crying. Then I woke up completely confused.

Dream title: Want to be love
Dream date: 2/27/2005
Dreamer name: Angel
Dream text: I was sitting next to the man I have had feelings for about ten years (now but he is married). The man and I were sitting there with two other people, who I could not really see, just hear them. When our hands touched each other, it was like an electric bolt with through me. We could not let our hands separate.
Dream comments: I have known this man for a long time. When he did try to be with me (before he got with his wife 4 years ago), I was with another man, and engaged to be married. By the time I had gotten out of my relationship, he was engaged to be married. Timing was off. Then two days ago I had come to the conclusion to move on with my life after 43 years of waiting.
Dream title: Cleaning
Dream date: 2/26/2005

Dream title: My husband got killed in my dream!
Dream date: 02/20/05
Dreamer name: anonymous
Dream text: I had a dream that my husband and I went to a jail to visit someone. There were security guards, letting us out. There were cement walls on both sides of the exit. It looked dark out and on the way out a security guard said "be careful with those guys they'll kill you". On the way out, we noticed they were in our car; they got out when we came up to our car. A colored guy was standing about 20 ft in front of our car and shot my husband in the forehead. He was bleeding and collapsed on my shoulder. He kept saying I can't see but told me which way to turn as I drove.
Dream comments: I woke up crying - it was scary
Dream title: A deep thinking man who I like very much

Dream title: Bear attack
Dream date: 2/27/2005
Dreamer name: anonymous
Dream text: It stated in a rush I had to get some where because I needed to get help for my dad. I was at my great uncle's house but it was an airplane. We couldn't find my dad so everyone told me to get help. At this point I must have jumped from the plane because I'm now in a thick forest. I found myself on a horse riding as fast as I could down a trail that was more like a maze. Then out of nowhere a bear comes at me and my horse. This is a wooded area with a cement path down the middle. I am almost around the corner where there are few trees and much lighter. This bear was running which such speed that it caught up to us, and then ended up running beyond us. I thought it would be best to climb a tree, which is a redwood or a similar kind. I found it easy to get up but I tried to pull my horse up to keep it from being eaten by the bear. I did a great job but the bear can climb the tree too. So I jumped to the next tree and the bear proceeded to that one. I was in such a panic because the bear was really working its way up the tree. And all I could think about it I have to get help.
Dream comments: This is one of the many that I have every other night.
Dream title: None

Dream title: Movie Books
Dream date: 2/28/05
Dreamer name: ShB
Dream text: My mom, dad and I were outside in our back yard. There were a pile of all these movies that were in my bedroom. When I picked them up they were books instead of movies. I asked who in the world would read these. My mom cracks open these rocks and put the books in them then took a lighter and lit it. It melted the edges so the books would be protected. I picked up the rocks and opened them all. When I was done my arms and hands were melted and burned as if they were plastic!
Dream comments: none
Dream title: Dream about the two men in my life
Dream date: 03-01-05
Dreamer name: one lover and friend
Dream text: I was at home and some friends brought this guy named Mike to my house. He had been drinking and was sick, so I told them to take him upstairs and put him in my room. When my friends left, my ex-boyfriend knocked on the door and came in. We were in the front room talking. We started to make out. The room suddenly got dark and we kept going. When Mike came down stairs and started to yell. My ex hopped up and said, "what the hell is going on? We are in here making out and you got a man in your house". At the same time Mike ran upstairs to get his stuff. While I was explaining to my ex that Mike was not my man and why he was in the house, Mike left and started to say crazy stuff and threats.
Dream comments: Mike is a guy that I just had a fling with. He just stopped answering my calls three days ago. I knew it was not serious so I didn't care. But my ex is a man that I was dating for some years and broke up with him a year and a half ago. He's a person that I want to be back with but he won't stop messing with his baby's momma while we were together.
Dream title: Japan
Dream date: 3.2.05
Dreamer name: anonymous
Dream text: I dreamt I was in Japan. I first was in the streets watching a parade of people go by. I then was floating or above the island, looking down and seeing the ocean waves rolling on to the shore. Then I was inside a house or a room, was standing against the wall. A Japanese man was there with me and (this seems so silly) but he was kissing me. This seemed very strange and I turned away from the man as if I was at that moment rejecting him. I said "no" because my husband is in a bed sleeping.
Dream comments:
Dream title: Skinny with four legs
Dream date: 3/4/05
Dreamer name: A
Dream text: I had this dream recently about a female colleague of mine. I told her that her legs were so skinny, she lowered her pants (still wearing under things) pointing to her thighs and saying that they were quite fat. After that she walked away, bare legged, on four legs!!!
Dream comments:
Dream title: none
Dream date: none given
Dreamer name: tmc
Dream text: I had a dream about someone dying. I was in the funeral home and there were flowers everywhere. The coffin was small and white. The lid was open but when I looked in I could not see the face. I knew it was a baby. The people on the right were dressed up and the people on the left were in regular clothes. I knew everyone in the room. I could not see any faces though. When I woke up I was crying and my heart was broken.
Dream comments: Two days later my brother's 6 week old daughter died after her heart transplant. When I went to the funeral, it was just like the dream. I did not help my brother pick out the coffin or flowers but they were the same. How can you dream something and then it come true? This is not the first dream that I have had and later on it come true. I have had 3 more like this one. Why am I having dreams like these?
Dream title: Alligators all around me
Dream date: not sure
Dreamer name: nightmare
Dream text: I've had many of these dreams, yet none are exactly the same. In one, I walked out of my friend's house and there were alligators everywhere in the yard.
In another one, the alligators were in the creek. I was crossing the creek and I was just surrounded by them. I was very scared. I was trying to get out so I could reach the bank and get on the bridge above. I kept stepping on them.
The last dream I had about alligators was:
I was at the same creek but I was on the bridge looking down and there was only one alligator left. (I remember my last dream in this one that I had years ago.) I wondered where they had all gone and if they were going to come back. I remembered being in the creek and stepping on them. This was very emotional dream for me... the remembering back to another dream from the dream I was in now.
Dream comments: It had been years between the last two dreams-- does that happen often to people? What do the alligators (or maybe they were crocodiles-- not sure exactly) mean? And why so many and then all of a sudden just one left?
Dream title: My dreams of my ex
Dream date: 3/6/2005
Dreamer name: abe76
Dream text: I keep dreaming of my true first love and that we keep back together in all my dreams I have! This time I dreamt that I even left my hubby and took my kids and I was with him!
Dream comments: I simply can't keep doing this to myself! I need help with this dream and why I keep dreaming about him!
Dream title: Being with Ex and getting dead flowers and being totally ignored
Dream date: 01-05-05
Dreamer name: Dar
Dream text: In my dream I was with my ex and our children. He bought roses for his current wife and mother. But my roses were dead. I felt unwanted and my children ignored me.
Dream comments: After waking I was hurting and feeling all alone. This really bothered me since we have been divorced for over 8 years and I am now remarried. I just did not feel like I was loved, by anyone. In my dream I was in his home and his wife was coming up the driveway. But the dead flowers were disturbing. Why do I dream about my ex and us being together?
Dream title: Between two seas
Dream date: none given
Dreamer name: Ay
Dream text: I was standing between two seas. They were calm and clear. There was a kid in one of them and a few people in the other. In the end I just walked on a wide path between the two seas. I do not know where, but it was all just calm
Dream comments: It left me restless and with a weird feeling
Dream title: Man on a ladder
Dream date: 08/03/05
Dreamer name: jacko289
Dream text: I was walking down my local high street, and I notice a ladder that was not stable on the ground with a window cleaner at the top cleaning windows. I knew his name and it was Andy. Before I could get to the ladder to stabilize it, it fell leaving Andy hanging onto the window frame that was very high up. I shouted to Andy to hang on. I grabbed the fallen ladder and tried to put it back up so Andy could climb back on. The ladder did not reach him because it was too low. So I tried to extend the ladder to reach him; I managed to extend the ladder but could not get it to secure properly. Then Andy fell - I saw this very vividly. He hit a roof that protruded from the building and then slammed onto the High Street directly in front of me. He was very badly injured and his head was facedown with a big cut in the back of his head. He had black hair and was of a large build. I then went to run to the phone booth near by to get help, and then woke up.
Dream comments: I have never had a dream as vivid as this or as horrible, it was not pleasant. The image of Andy on the ground was very clear. I do not have any friends called Andy but I have a cousin called Andrew.
Dream title: At the sea
Dream date: 2/2005
Dreamer name: Mary
Dream text: I was at the ocean with two other people. We were scuba diving for pearls. But all of a sudden pearls popped up and I was getting them, then a wave came and took them away. I then was on top of a branch and saw a shell. I put it on my mouth and it was a rotten egg. I cleaned it almost all but I still felt it there. Then the pearls continued to pop up.
Dream comments: What does the ocean and pearls and eggs mean?
Dream title: none
Dream date: none given
Dreamer name: anonymous
Dream text: I was stealing out of the store with someone that I am truly in love with. Even when his brother tried to get me in trouble he would not let him.
Dream comments: What does this mean?
Dream title: Boyfriend and high school friends
Dream date: 3-15-05
Dreamer name: tboz
Dream text: I dreamed that my boyfriend was hanging out with some girls from high school that I used to be friends with. When I asked him if anything happened, he told me yes. He said that he just kissed them.
Dream comments: This is a new relationship, but this dream really upset me.
Dream title: Breathing under water
Dream date: Almost once a month
Dreamer name: Zebra
Dream text: I'm in a body of water. The water is relatively calm where I am, but all around me there are HUGE waves and everyone is scared. I also am breathing under water during all this. The dream has no definitive end or beginning I just end up there and then POOF I'm in another dream right after that.
Dream comments: I always wake up confused after this dream. It also seems to be the only one I can remember from that night. I also feel like it was totally real, I can "feel" every detail of the dream including the way the water feels going in and out of my lungs as I breathe. What does this mean?
Dream title: Feeling Vulnerable
Dream date: November 2004
Dreamer name: Zebra
Dream text: It starts out, me and my fiancé'. We were having a party at our house and there were a lot of people there but I never saw any faces except for one girl's. She and my fiancé had bee talking and I was totally ok with that. Than he said he wanted to show her the new bedding we had just bought. A while later I noticed I hadn't seen them for a while. I went in the room and they were making out in our bed. I freaked out and tried to hit her but he stopped me and asked "what did you expect?" Then he packed up his things and moved out. A few days later (in the dream) I saw her at the grocery store. I grabbed a carton of eggs and started throwing them at her as hard as I could. There was yellow yolk everywhere. I chased her down and tried to beat her up. Then all the employees in the store came after me and called the police. In the dream I don't actually go to jail, but if flashes forward to the time I had gotten out of jail for assault on this girl...years later...When I got out of jail I had nowhere to go except for her house. She was there with my ex-fiancé and her parents. I walked in the house and everything was white. I told the mom I was going to go take a shower because I knew that my fiancé would be in the adjoining part of the bathroom. I started to draw a bath while sitting on the edge of the tub. I slid the bathrobe down off my shoulders exposing my back, hoping that he would walk in and want me back. Then I heard him yelling at the girl's mom telling her that I tried to seduce him and that it wasn't right for me to be there. Flash forward...I get out of the tub, get dressed and go back into the living room which is now kind of grey in color. He is the only one there and I have been instructed to drive him for an errand. We get in the car and start talking, we were having fun like we used to when we were together. And he even said that. Then we pulled up to a candy shop (that in reality was in a town where I grew up, that my fiancé has never been to). When we got to the candy shop, it was huge. The girl and her parents were there. It was two stories and she was on the top level picking out candy. I grabbed a huge piece of green taffy and began eating it. Then I noticed him climb a ladder up to where she was, and I started choking on the taffy. It felt like a huge squishy blob in my throat and I couldn't scream for help or even move. Then he pulled a ring out of his pocket showed the dad and went to propose to her.
Dream comments: A lot of this dream I was there first person, but a lot of it I watched from a third person point of view. When I woke up I was deeply hurt by this dream and needed a lot of attention from my fiancé. It stuck with me for about two weeks before I finally let go of it. It really disturbed me.
