Lest you think that Electric Dreams is just an announcement forum for ASD, let me correct that notion now. There is still a sad and major difference between the Electric Dreams community and ASD. At Electric Dreams have a multitude of contexts & venues for sharing dreams, we are based on peer or partnership dream sharing paradigms, and we do all we can to promote dream sharing both online and off. Our focus is online, but my larger goal has always been to elevate the value of dreams in my society. Dream sharing is de-valued and repressed in so many cultural contexts and activities. Sometimes the suppression is subtle, like the way your co-workers look at you when you share more than one dream a month at the office. Other times the dismissal is found in poor parenting, as when its so much easier to tell our children "Its just a dream..." rather than give the child and his/her dream the attention they deserve.

The issue is more complex at ASD. There is an active policy suppressing dream interpretations that would impose a meaning on another persons dreams, and very strict rules about not even sharing dreams online unless in the context of research. Instead of being *undervalued* they are *overvalued* and then held to be "dangerous" and only to be discussed in the presence of mental health professionals.

I think what has happened is a problem in being clear about contexts and what they mean. No one I know of at Electric Dreams wants someone to be abused by another's interpretation. But is this best handled by suppressing all interpretation or by opening it up? I am reminded of the nudity issue in Western Culture where we have tried to control it by make people wear clothes, and in so doing, we have produced an exploitative pornography industry. At ASD, the model context has dreams as secrets told in therapy. This context then gets extended to all ASD venues.

We provide various contexts at Electric Dreams. Some are rigid like our DreamWheel groups and on them we expect participants to follow along with non-interpretive dreamwork. In other venues, such as the dream-flow and the e-zine, we feel that free speech must be supported and defended. Our model is that of an interactive village. If someone says something mean-spirited, we tell them and respond with our own opinions.

With the notion of context, the two communities (ASD and Edreams) may be able to move closer together. The original pioneers of ASD are all very active in developing dreamwork that can empower and be used both in and outside of clinical dreamwork. Many ASD members have developed and practiced dreamwork online for years now. Hardly an incident can be found that has caused and individual harm. While many situations can be imagined where dreamwork *might* harm someone, I think the statistics over the last 7 years have shown dreamwork online to be one of the safest adult activities available to our culture.

To further these discussions, both at Electric Dreams and at ASD, I am including in this article a history of the issue and a suggestion that ASD can leave the 20th century behind and bridge its values concerning safe dreamwork into the 21st century through the development of model online dreamwork. This month's excerpt from Lucy Gillis's "Lucid Dream Exchange" features a particular type of lucid dream, the mutual lucid dream. Lucid dreams are dreams where you are aware you are dreaming *while* you are dreaming. Mutual dreams are dreams that two or more people have, and they can be similar or the same. Linda Lane Magallon, author of "MUTUAL DREAMING," shares her research on this topic.


Bjo Ashwill's column DreamSpinner, explores her experiences of creating a computer software program that does very detailed analysis of dream narratives. This month Bjo explores how metaphor patterns change over a series of dreams and how to use the DreamSpinner to explore them.

Dreamchatters began in December 1999 as an adjunct to mailing-lists; to keep up communications between dream-interested individuals. The hope being to be catalysts to creating a clearer path to the future of dreaming online.

Instructions come with every phase of the group from a group moderator. Dreams are sent in to the moderator and sorted. (you can send to richard <rcwilk@dreamgate.com> who is moderating this Wheel) We go through the dreams as a group one by one. The first phase is the question phase, asking non-defensive clarification questions of the dreamer [who may or may not respond as they chose]. Then in the comment phase each person in the group takes the dream as-if-it-were-their-own. The process is non-defensive, fun and very revealing.

"Dreamwork Ethics Statement"

The Electric Dreams community celebrates the many benefits of dreamwork, yet recognizes that there are potential risks. We agree with the ethical position taken by the Association for the Study of Dreams (http://www.asdream.org), in that we support an approach to dreamwork and dream sharing that respects the dreamer's dignity and integrity, and which recognizes the dreamer as the decision-maker regarding the significance of the dream. Systems of dreamwork that assign authority or knowledge of the dream's meanings to someone other than the dreamer can be misleading, incorrect, and harmful. Ethical dreamwork helps the dreamer work with his/her own dream images, feelings, and associations, and guides the dreamer to more fully experience, appreciate, and understand the dream.

Every dream may have multiple meanings, and different techniques may be reasonably employed to touch these multiple layers of significance. A dreamer's decision to share or discontinue sharing a dream should always be respected and honored. The dreamer should be forewarned that unexpected issues or emotions may arise in the course of the dreamwork. Information and mutual agreement about the degree of privacy and confidentiality are essential ingredients in creating a safe atmosphere for dream sharing.

Dreamwork outside a clinical setting is not a substitute for psychotherapy, or other professional treatment, and should not be used as such.

We recognize and respect that there are many valid and time-honored dreamwork traditions. We invite and welcome the participation of dreamers from all cultures. There are social, cultural, and transpersonal aspects to dream experience. In this statement we do not mean to imply that the only valid approach to dreamwork focuses on the dreamer's personal life. Our purpose is to honor and respect the person of the dreamer as well as the dream itself, regardless of how the relationship between the two may be understood.

An Excerpt From the Lucid Dream Exchange

This month's excerpt features a particular type of lucid dream, the mutual lucid dream. Linda Lane Magallon, author of "MUTUAL DREAMING," shares a wonderful example of this type of dream that she and an acquaintance experienced.

There are two important kinds of mutual dreams: meshing and meeting. A meshing dream involves information interchange. Ideas, feelings, emotions, symbols, themes, events or the dreamscape can be shared between dreams. These element's can be literally identical, as when both Lucy Christian and I dreamt of a large room and of the ability to fly. Or the elements may be metaphorically related. I saw "silhouettes of buildings" in my dreams; Lucy viewed "furniture of asymmetrical shapes" in hers. We both met friendly older men, had memory trouble, were concerned with name recognition and described our surroundings in artistic terms.

I become lucid in a large room which seems to be the hallway of an office building. I start calling out, "I want someone to recognize me!" People are walking back and forth; the closest man gives me a weird look. That stops me; I think, "Oops, maybe I'm being too pushy for this place. I don't really know the rules here." Then I think, "Oh, hell, this is just a dream !" and begin calling out again.

The scene changes and I'm in another room with an older dark-haired man seated on a comfortable overstuffed chair in front of me. "Hello, Linda," he says pleasantly.

"Dr. Hogue!" I exclaim in recognition. "We've met before, haven't we?" (It seems we met in an earlier "scene" of this dream, but on waking I don't remember it.)

He comes toward me. "What would you like to do?" he asks. I'm aware there's a lot that can be done with lucidity. But right now I just want to have fun. "I want to fly," I reply.

Dr. Hogue puts his left arm around my waist and stretches out the other to hold my right hand wrist. We take off out a window and fly swiftly forward toward the horizon. The scenery is mainly flat: to the right is a large body of vivid turquoise water. We stop midair and I concentrate on it. The wavy water seems to change into lines of various shades of blue, like those found in an oil painting. To the left are the silhouettes of buildings: as I look closely, I realize they are unlike any buildings I've ever seen in my time period and wonder if I'm in the future. I try to commit the shapes to memory, but the only ones I do recall upon waking have triangular roofs.

I am in a large room when I become lucid. I start to fly out when I notice that the room is very beautiful, so I change my mind and explore the room instead. First, the ceiling catches my eye. It is made of shimmering silvery panels. The room is filled with beautiful flowers of many kinds and colors. I have the feeling of being on the inside of a beautifully wrapped Christmas gift, looking out.

I wander into an adjoining room, asking aloud if there is a friendly spirit around. An older man appears and we hug. Several others join us. Then lucidity and memory fade. Later, I become lucid again. This time I am in a narrow stairway going upstairs. I come to a narrow yellow door that opens into an apartment with some very unusual furniture. It looks like it is made of some kind of corrugated cardboard construction built into asymmetrical shapes, yet comfortable and functional. They are painted in soft colors with graphics as are the surrounding walls.

Several women are in the apartment who seem to be welcoming me into their group. I tell them I am in a lucid dream. One says, so is she. When I ask them what their names are in waking life, they give me some names, but I do not recognize any of them. Nor do I remember them now. One woman tells me it is a very "mental" question.

Notice the 5 day time-slip. Mutual dreams don't have to occur on the same night, because dreams are loose in both time and space. Lucy lives on the East Coast of the United States; I live on the West. Both of us were incubating to the same Lucidity Project target goal, "Gift yourself with a Christmas dream." Both of us were lucid. But even though we had dreams of similar form and content, we didn't see one another. Actually, we've never met face-to-face in waking life, either.

"Brace Yourself!"

I'm getting braces soon and one night I had a dream that I was backing out of getting them.

Then the angel Gabriel came to me and told me that I have to get braces because if I didn't I couldn't get into heaven and if my teeth were crooked I would have to go to purgatory and have to earn my straight teeth.

And I was so scared that I would go to hell that I woke up. What does it mean?

Hi Abby -

Do you think straight teeth really are that important? That you wouldn't be allowed into heaven if you had crooked ones? Hmmmm.... I don't know about this Gabriel guy...

Actually, your dream probably is more about obeying your parents - and making them happy - than it is about any real life "heaven and hell" decisions. I think you're nervous about getting your braces, and you've been thinking about backing out of it, but you don't want to disappoint your parents - not after you've already seen the orthodontist, had impressions made of your teeth, and had all the preparations done.

What's the message of this dream? It's time to "brace yourself" for a shiny pair of "train tracks" lashed across your teeth! A lot of your friends are going to have them too - and when you get done you'll have a very nice, pretty smile.

But uh.... In case you and Gabriel didn't finish your conversation - it takes more than a cute smile to get into heaven.

(It has to be attached to a good heart!)

So now we've come to the payoff. All these sections have one objective - teaching you how to become lucid in your dreams. After you've learned the process, methods, tips, tools, and tactics, we'll cover the more advanced techniques that you will need to know once you become lucid.

The Process

There are many techniques and methods that you can use for inducing lucid dreams, but there are basically two different ways of becoming lucid. You can either have dream-induced or wake-induced lucid dreams. Stephen LaBerge coined the term D.I.L.D. (Dream Induced Lucid Dream) for dreams in which you become lucid while within a dream. By training your awareness, you will somehow realize that you are dreaming while you are dreaming. This is by far the most common way of having a lucid dream, but it is also possible to directly enter a lucid dream from a waking state. These Wake Induced Lucid Dreams, or W.I.L.D.s, are far more rare, but as LaBerge so aptly labeled them, they are quite an experience. While covering the basics we will be dealing primarily with dream induced lucid dreams. When we move beyond the basics, we will be dealing with the more
advanced techniques that will include inducing W.I.L.D.s. There are many methods to induce lucid dreams, but there is an underlying process behind most if not all of them. I've broken this underlying process down into six basic steps that will serve as our beginning regime. Once you absorb these steps and start following them, it is only a matter of time before you have your first lucid dream. In case you are wondering how long it will take for you to have you first one, just follow through with the steps and have faith that you will have one.

According to statistics, the time it takes for someone to have their first lucid dream averages from three weeks to two months, but yours may be tonight so don't be discouraged if you try for a while and don't succeed. There seems to be an obsession in our society for instant results. If you are one of these people, realize that this is one of your first obstacles to overcome. Only one thing is certain - If you never stop trying, you are guaranteed to succeed.

Step Six) Linking your Awareness to your Dreams

This last step is rather simple and easy compared to the previous steps, and due to its simplicity you should have no problem incorporating it into your daily regime. But before we move on, let's review where you should be at right now. At this point, you have done the mental prep-work, you have been increasing your dream recall, and you have been keeping your dream journal. You are becoming familiar with your dreams, noticing your dreamsigns, and exercising your awareness by meditating and doing your reality checks consistently.

The final step is to combine what you have learned about your dreams with what you have learned about your awareness. Put simply, you need to merge your reality checks with your dreamsigns so that whenever you encounter one of your dreamsigns you automatically start doing reality checks. If you dream of classrooms or beaches or driving fast in a car, whenever you see a classroom or a beach or whenever you are driving in a fast car you will be programmed to do a reality check. The end result will be this: Inevitably you are going to dream about one of your dreamsigns (that is why they are your dreamsigns) and eventually you are going to remember to do a reality check and ultimately you are going to realize that you are dreaming.
It is helpful to stay updated on your current dreamsigns and dream themes. If you have been having dreams of being chased for the past week, you need to activate a trigger onto the idea of being chased so that whenever you are being chased you will realize that you need to do a reality check. By becoming intimately acquainted with your dreamsigns and linking reality checks to these dreamsigns, you will be laying the foundation for future lucid dreaming adventures.

As you can see, these six steps are all interwoven into one basic process. Leaving out just one step will diminish the effectiveness of all the other steps, and in turn, it will decrease the actual results of the entire process. Almost all of the other techniques and methods for inducing lucid dreams that will be mentioned are based on this overall process to a certain extent. Often, the methods and techniques are offshoots of this process or are limited versions of one or more of these six basic steps. Study them and internalize them. Practice them diligently and consistently and your subconscious will become engrained with them. Eventually these habits will carry over into your dreams, and hopefully the final payoff will be when you say, "Yes, I am dreaming!"

By simply following these six steps, you will inevitably have a lucid dream, but to maximize your progress, let's go over several other methods that you can use in conjunction with these six steps. By experimenting with these steps and with the following methods, you will discover which techniques work best for you.

There are many different methods and techniques but since everyone is usually rather individualized the method that works best for you may depend on YOU. I suggest trying them all. I have had lots of luck using brainwave entrainment audio as well as using the Sleep-Wake-Back to Bed Method.

Hi, Electric Dreamers. I am Bjo Ashwill and am writing a monthly column on my experiences of creating a computer software program that does very detailed analysis of dream narratives. In this column I shall describe, over time, how to use the computer's power to store, group, analyze and retrieve information from our dreams. DreamSpinner's greatest power is working with long "over time" dream series, although it can work with individual dreams as well. How do metaphor patterns change over time? That is the question that began my journey toward creating DreamSpinner.

So far, we've learned about the category system in DreamSpinner. Now we will take a look at the method DreamSpinner uses to gather the raw data. A great deal of the work has already been done. The extensive dictionary and category links are already made. Naturally, each dreamer will want to modify it to their specific ways. That is very easy to do. You can add any words and definitions you wish. You can create new categories, edit or delete them. You can change the hierarchy structure to fit how you want the information gathered.

The important function that gathers the raw data for you is the DreamLinking process. DreamSpinner will not recognize the meanings of the words in your dream narrative until you tell it what dictionary definition belongs to that specific word, and which categories to hook it to. Four text boxes open up in the DreamLinking window.

1st, you see the single word you are to link. Example: wall.
2nd, you see the line the word is in, so you have the context of the word. Example: I am in a room, the walls are red.
3rd, a list of possible definitions for that word is presented.
Example:
1. Wall of building, one of the sides.
2. Wall of water.
3. "A wall between us", a communication barrier.

4th, you highlight the one that's right for this word in this dream.
I highlighted number one, "Wall of building, one of the sides." Each definition is hooked to one or more categories.
Example:
1. Wall of building, one of the sides. (Category: Objects, (subcategory) Architecture, (subcategory) Details.)
2. Wall of water. (Category: Nature, (subcategory) Water Related, (subcategory) Waves. A second category: Characteristics, (subcategory) Intensity, (subcategory) High Intensity.)
3. "A wall between us", a communication barrier. (Category: Mind, (subcategory) Thinking, (subcategory) Psychological. A second category: Evaluation, (subcategory) Difficult Situations)

If you like the categories it is hooked to, then click on the LINK button and that connection of category, definition and which dream it is in is stored in the word frequency counts tables. You will be going through the dream only once. This raw data is stored in a series of linked tables underneath the DreamLinking Window form. There are ID numbers for everything. The Dream ID, the word ID, the category ID, the character position ID, the syntax ID and so on. Each time you hit the LINK button, all those numbers are stored to be retrieved later in as many different combinations as you care to look at. The word infinite comes to mind.

Here is an example dream:

"I am in a room, the walls are red. My Father steps into the hall and a lion speaks to him. Suddenly, the wall falls over and I see outside a waterfall, where spirits fly around the water. I cry with joy."

Because every word is linked to categories, this dream will figure into many different dream sets.
It's a "room" dream, a "wall" dream, a "red" dream, a "Father" dream, a "waterfall" dream. And so on.

DreamSpinner reveals patterns. When you call up a dream set, for instance, "All Waterfall Dreams", a form comes up. It displays in descending order, the most frequent categories for that dream set. What emotions are most common in "waterfall" dreams? You scroll to where the Category MIND is, open it to the subcategory EMOTION, and see which emotions are most frequent. Does it change over time? DreamSpinner is looking at these dreams over time. In the year 1992, were " waterfall " dreams scary and in 1994 were " waterfall " dreams sad? This gives additional information about yourself. It gives information and excites questions in areas you might not have thought to look for insights.

One dreamer noticed a high frequency of anger in the dream set for a particular character. Except for one year. The high frequency was sadness. That, she realized later, was the year that dream character died (in waking life.) The dreams increased in frequency in forgiveness activities almost 8 months before the death.

There are many different kinds of information you will get out of each dream.

What emotions are most common in this dream set?
What social interactions are most frequent?
Who is most frequently found in "Anger" dreams?
When there is an animal in the dream, is there a higher frequency of spirituality?
When there are more dangerous or scary events, are they frightening or exhilarating?
What kinds of problem solving techniques do I most often use in my dreams?
Why is fear such a high frequency in dreams that have attic trap doors?
Why is it that many "performance dreams" have a distance between the performer and the audience?


Here's the information you receive from the example dream:

Most frequent category is Objects, Architecture, Rooms (hall and room) and Details, (wall).

This tells me that the space itself is more important in this dream than say Social Interaction or feelings, or any other category.

The second most frequent category is Object Relationships (Both room and hall figure as containment objects. This means the dream is talking about containment issues. Obstruction?

The third most frequent and therefore most important category is Movement. (Falling wall and stepping.) Then Flowing (waterfall) and then Journey, Under your own Power (flying). The opposite of obstruction. The flow is open.

Fourth: Animals/Creatures. Wild Lion and spirit.(Animals are more frequent than people in this dream.) Hummm. Animals and spiritual metaphors seem to be together in this dream. Is that so of all animal dreams?

Fifth: Characteristics. The Color, red and time measurement (sudden). Do other red dreams have this kind of time movement?

Sixth: MIND, Emotional, State Of Mind Positive, (cry for joy). Good feelings in this dream, no negative ones. Do my other dreams where flow is open reveal these same emotions? Are there years or months when the flow is closed in dreams? What are the feelings in those dreams?

Seventh: Nature. Natural bodies of Water, (waterfall).

Eighth: Body, Sensory, Visual (see)

Ninth: Character, Immediate Family Member, (Father).

Tenth: Evaluation, Negative, sudden.

Eleventh: Social Interaction, Communication, Verbal, (speak)

Twelfth: Spiritual (spirit).

The list of possible insights is endless. The straw (those boring left brain word frequency counts) are transformed and woven into gold.

Creating Safe Cyberecologies for Dream Sharing and Dreamwork:

How the Association for the Study of Dreams can offer its Ethical Traditions to the Internet.

Dreamwork: Used here as a general term to denote any structured approach to a recalled dream. This includes various interpretive methods used both in and outside of clinical settings as well as keeping a journal and expressing the dream in art, theatre, dance and other forms. The emphasis is on *doing* something with the dream.

Dream Sharing: Used here to mean a recalled dream that is shared, usually with another person or group of people. The emphasis here is more social than dreamwork and less formal. Dream sharing can occur in dreamwork, but also more casually as in a phone conversation with a friend or over a water cooler at work, or on a bulletin board on the world wide web. The emphasis is on sharing.

The Association for the Study of Dreams (ASD) has been promoting safe dreamwork since it's beginning in 1984. Pioneers such as Jeremy Taylor, Gayle Delaney, Strephon Kaplan-Williams, Montague Ullman, Henry Reed, Patricia Garfield and many others strove to forefront a set of dreamwork ethics and practices that would always allow the dreamer to be the final authority on issues of meaning and value, whether working with a therapist in a closed setting or talking with friends openly on the telephone. These values and ethics have been successful in allowing grass-roots dreamwork groups to develop safely outside clinical settings. They have also allowed clinicians a perspective through which they can view dreamwork as a useful tool for empowering patients.

These values and ethics can now be transported to the new virtual frontier and become a model for dreamwork and dream sharing taking place in Cyberspace. Just as the offline grassroots dreamwork movement looks to the Association for the Study of Dreams as a standard for behaviors and ethics, so too the online dream movement can find direction and guidance in ASD and its model groups and values.

There has been some history of concern at ASD about whether these values and practices can accurately be transported from offline to online, from face-to-face to Cyberspace, from the contained vessel of the therapeutic container to an anonymous encounter with virtual strangers.

The original concern about online dream sharing and dreamwork was first discussed at the ASD executive board in 1995. At that time there was on the table a proposal to have both an ASD website and computer café for the 1996 Berkeley Conference. Some of the concerns mentioned below and the following decisions were discussed and enacted during the Spring 1996 executive board meeting as well.


It may be difficult to realize that at the time, the Internet was an all but unknown phenomenon to the general public. Within two years it would be difficult in the Bay Area to watch TV for more than a half-an hour without the Internet being promoted, or drive 10 blocks without seeing a billboard for e-commerce. But in 1994-95, one had to pretty much explain the word "Internet" if used in casual conversation. It was under these conditions that the ASD executive board had to decide the policies that would guide the organization into the 21st Century.

The main concern had both a specific and general side. The specific concern was how to regulate remote dream sharing at ASD venues where interpretations of dreams might be imposed on the dreamer. The more general concern was whether it was emotionally safe to have dream sharing conducted remotely without the usual containers and safety values provided by face-to-face dreamwork.

Peripheral concerns also included:
a. Would ASD be libel or legally responsible for problems that arose with participants or the actions of the leaders?
b. Would ASD be seen as endorsing a process or particular remarks made by individuals or leaders during these sessions?
c. Would WWW links to other sites constitute endorsement of these websites?

Other concerns that have emerged around this include a concern about dreamwork as a clinical vs non-clinical activity. Traditionally with therapy, dream narratives and images have been connected with material that the client may not be ready to be aware of about themselves. There was a concern that dreamwork could cause reactions such as de-compensation or depression in people suffering from various mental illnesses, as well as other reactions that might require a mental heath professional.

The decision was to :
1. Prohibit all sharing of personal dreams and interpretations of dreams on the ASD bulletin board on the website (at that time hosted by GMCC).
2. Provide a clear warning and disclaimer to any links to sites off of the ASD website.
3. Have a committee decide what links were appropriate, if any.
4. Prohibit live & delayed online dream sharing at any ASD conference or ASD sponsored event until further studies had been done.
5. Develop a Dreamwork Ethics Statement. (See copy below)


To address the concerns about the safety of online dreamwork and dream sharing, Sara Richards, Ph.D. and Richard Wilkerson developed a panel discussion at the 1996 Berkeley Conference and brought together a variety of people who had been experimenting for some time with dream sharing and dreamwork online. The panel consisted of John Herbert, Ph.D., Jayne Gackenbach, Ph.D., Linton Hutchinson, Ph.D., Jeremy Taylor, Sarah Richards, Ph.D. and Richard Wilkerson. (Other projects were also developed, such as test-groups conducted independently of ASD by many members, and online dreaming education programs. The conclusion of the panel, regarding the safety of online dreamwork, was unanimous. All felt that dreamwork and dream sharing online could be, and was being, conducted safely and productively. The panel was brought together again in Santa Cruz in 1999 and came to the same conclusions.


Some of the recommendations included:

1. State up front what the ethical guidelines are and whether the session is or is not a psychotherapy session. Although the Board of Behavioral Science has now given a go-ahead for Mental Health professionals to provide some services online, it has not been demonstrated whether dreamwork will be appropriate or not. Non-clinical dreamwork online *has* been continually demonstrated to have productive and live enhancing results.
2. Use non-defensive approaches, such as John Herbert's variations on the Ullman State III "...if this were my dream." approach or the Gayle Delaney Interview method have been the most often used and are recommended. The key is leaving the control of the final interpretation, if any, in the hands of dreamer and always allowing them to be the final authority.
3. At the end of dream sharing sessions, provide a feed-back form that allows the people involved to express concerns about the moderator and the process and the group.
4. Due to the language and difficult topics and images that can occur in dreamwork, special considerations are needed for children sharing dreams online. At this time, dreamwork online may not be appropriate for them, at least in the groups that have been presented at ASD.

Further conclusions: Why is online dream sharing safe?

John Herbert's comparison study of face-to-face dream groups with online dream groups (Herbert 1991, 2000) found that face-to-face groups were more emotional while online groups were more reflective. It was suggested that is this due to the delay in response time in his bulletin board groups study, and that people have more time to reflect.

As Jeremy Taylor has pointed out, real time dreamwork in chat and conference rooms offers the safety of anonymity. People join anonymously and this allows them control over personal exposure and the possibility of retaliation if they expose a vulnerable part of themselves.

As Richard Wilkerson has pointed out, there is a group process that protects the dreamer from intrusive and abusive language/behavior. If someone says something inappropriate to a dreamer, there are others who will jump right in and confront them. They too needn't fear direct retaliation, by the leader or other group members. (Other than verbal abuse, which is very, very rare in dreamsharing. This is due to the natural-selection process. Dreamwork tends to attract people who are interested in personal growth. People with big issues join political discussion groups).

As Jayne Gackenbach has pointed out, there is now an online culture. That is, people online are not as confused as they were about what they are getting into and what is and isn't appropriate online. To further this clarity, participants can be asked to sign or check boxes that indicate they understand and agree to the terms and conditions of the group.

However, the organization (ASD) was reluctant to move from its initial position that the Internet is not an appropriate place for dreamwork and dream sharing.



Further research and exploration of ASD and online dream sharing.

In 1995 Alan Siegel, Ph.D. and Richard Wilkerson began the Cyberphile column on the quarterly ASD Dream Time magazine. Each issue contained updates, news, articles and information about dream sharing and dreamwork online, as well as providing a forum for those concerned about such issues. The project has been a gateway for hundreds of people to come online, experience a variety of dreamwork venues, and contribute to the dream field in general. Out of the hundreds of new people we have met and shared dreams with, not one has reported being abused in any way in the venues mentioned. Some were concerned, some not interested, some questioned the relevancy and significance of online dreamwork. But no one was harmed. This isn't to say it can't happen, but it does give testimony to online dreamwork as one of the safest activities available.

In 1999, Alan Siegel initiated the Dream Time Live program, where ASD members with general and specialized experience in dreams and dreaming were brought together with the general public and provided another forum to discuss what the problems and solutions with online dreamwork might entail. Many of the initial pioneers of dreamwork online have participated and discussed ways that ASD might become a model for online dreamwork.

In 2000 Ed Kellogg, Ph.D., proposed on the Electronic Communication Committee a new standard for dream sharing on the ASD bulletin board. The new policy still restricted interpretations of dreams in the context of requests by dreamers for other people to impose meanings on them, but allowed the meaning of dreams to be discussed in the context of research presented on the ASD bulletin board.

In 2000, Alan Siegel & Richard Wilkerson brought together researchers & dreamwokers who have been developing dream sharing online and presented an dual - offline/online issue of Dream Time Magazine. This resource includes articles about online dreamwork by Jeremy Taylor, John Herbert, Jayne Gackenback, Robert Bosnak, Fred Olsen, Walter Logeman and Harry Bosma. This project is now a resource for others to find the wide variety of safe dreamwork processes that have worked online and develop new processes.

Conclusions and Recommendations

Sharing dreams online is somewhat different than sharing dreams offline, but not so much that ASD ethics and values for dreamworkers would be violated. In fact, online dreamwork would benefit from having dreamwork modeled by an organization that is as respected as ASD. While not all cyber-venues may be appropriate for dream sharing, all dream sharing cyberecologies can benefit from having a positive model.

The evidence for safe online dreamwork is now overwhelming, and after 7 years of trials the time is ripe for ASD begin developing its own programs. There is a large body of literature, experience and public documents now available for study and use. These trials and experiments offer the ASD organization a framework to build model dream groups.

ASD DREAMWORK ETHICS STATEMENT

ASD celebrates the many benefits of dreamwork, yet recognizes that there are potential risks. ASD supports an approach to dreamwork and dream sharing that respects the dreamer's dignity and integrity, and which recognizes the dreamer as the decision-maker regarding the significance of the dream. Systems of dreamwork that assign authority or knowledge of the dream's meanings to someone other than the dreamer can be misleading, incorrect, and harmful. Ethical dreamwork helps the dreamer work with his/her own dream images, feelings, and associations, and guides the dreamer to more fully experience, appreciate, and understand the dream. Every dream may have multiple meanings, and different techniques may be reasonably employed to touch these multiple layers of significance.

A dreamer's decision to share or discontinue sharing a dream should always be respected and honored. The dreamer should be forewarned that unexpected issues or emotions may arise in the course of the dreamwork. Information and mutual agreement about the degree of privacy and confidentiality are essential ingredients in creating a safe atmosphere for dream sharing.

Dreamwork outside a clinical setting is not a substitute for psychotherapy, or other professional treatment, and should not be used as such.

ASD recognizes and respects that there are many valid and time-honored dreamwork traditions. We invite and welcome the participation of dreamers from all cultures. There are social, cultural, and transpersonal aspects to dream experience. In this statement we do not mean to imply that the only valid approach to dreamwork focuses on the dreamer's personal life. Our purpose is to honor and respect the person of the dreamer as well as the dream itself, regardless of how the relationship between the two may be understood.

Have you ever wondered how dreams and astrology are connected?

There are many ways we can connect dreams to astrology, and many don't require that you know all about your Natal Chart. In this column we will be exploring the symbolic rather than predictive aspects of astrology. Symbolic astrology attempts to use the images of astrological to give meaning to one's life and empower choices rather than predict paths. We do this by imaginal overlay. In this process we impleach, (poetically interweave)dream, image, feeling, life and symbol in a way to evoke a felt sense of the dream's imagery and its position in our life.

This year we are focusing each month on a different House.
The inner circle of the Natal or Birth Chart is divided into 12 distinct regions know as Houses. They relate to everyday activates. One will be about physical appearances and temperament, while another relates to possessions, for example. Planets and signs fall within these Houses and influence the areas of focus. We will be watching for images of planets, signs and other celestial events and hopefully begin to see the emergence of an astrological chart that dips into birth charts, dreams, and our waking life.



The Ninth House:
Sagittarius. Long distance & time communication and travel, the deeper mind, profound subjects, philosophy, religion, publishing, foreigners, language, dreams.


In the first six Houses, the 9th House corresponds to the

  
3rd House & Gemini. If you recall, that house is about communication and mind as well. In the Third house, it might be said, we collect and communicate, while in the Ninth House we discover the meaning of all this gathered information. Often these two together make up the fuller term "Mind".

Dream: "We are on a train on a long journey. I'm thirsty and I go into a private compartment and a man there has the whole room filled. Its like Copernicus's room, with open books everywhere, globes, telescopes, maps and other instruments for navigation. I notice the man is very involved and he says he is tracing down the missing 8th harmonic of some Islamic scholar. I am amazed but haven't any idea how to relate to his project. I feel a great rush of love for the man."

How appropriate that it is often called the "House of Dreams."
Here the inner most workings are interpreted and revealed. The information gathered by that messenger and psychopomp Mercury in the Third House emerges as a new perspective in Jupiter and the Ninth House.


Dream: "I am with a business tycoon and he invites me into his office. It's full of things like model trains, compasses, books and other items. I want to talk business but he is interested in a larger project and offers me a chance to take my art to a new level by taking on this project. It's never quite clear what the project is, but I am very excited and feel it will be an amazing journey."

Jupiter is also associated with the Law, but the law has its spiritual as well as earthly order. Spiritual laws, more on the order of archetypes and religious dogma, are a grasping of the nature of the cosmos on a more intuitive level. The laws of living and being and consciousness belong to the subtle realm of the Ninth house. The close, in your face, surface truths recede in the Ninth house like the arrow of the Sagittarian archer, shooting through the surface to find its mark in a broader, more basic experience, awareness and approach. Thus the connection with philosophy and religion. Psychology and esotericism come together here in the binding search for meaning, or in Jungian terms, the path of Individuation.


For those that hide from the journey of the Self, the Ninth House can be like a Shadow and torment the person. Look for dreams of Lucifer, paths of constrictions, dream images where there is overcompensation, disillusionment, pain, endless searching, loss of faith and fears of torture.



Dream: "I see a mirror in my bedroom I've never noticed before. I put my hand through and then walk through the mirror. I enter a completely different kind of realm. Its a huge cavern filled with red lights. I see a passage way that continues out of sight. I become frightened that it might be Hell and try to get back to my room."

The Search for Meaning in the Ninth House may lead to peak experiences, a drive towards direct encounter with the larger than life, including not only traditional visions and gnostic experiences, but throwing oneself against fate, elements, problems and other more concrete adversaries. Watch for those parts of the self and dream characters that are very agnostic as well, especially if it is compulsive.

Dream: "There is an alarm that goes off on the floor where I'm working and we all have to abandon the building. We go down the elevator together but when we get to the first floor, everyone seems to be on their own. I notice on the floor several pieces of a puzzle, and feel that if can find the rest of the puzzle, we can return to the building. There is a great deal of pressure to hurry before the building collapses."

Like the archer, the person in the Ninth House needs a goal or mark to shoot for. Without this direction, we are just pissing in the wind. The wise man and fool may find this a fine activity, but the Ninth House seems to require a one-pointedness to avoid downward spirals. At least at first. The problem seems to be that this goal must be one's own. Taking on someone else's goal will not work for long as the Ninth House is not fulfilled by the individual taking on any authority but his or her own. Like Saturn, the law must emanate from within. As straight as I am characterizing this goal, the truth seems to be a more circuitous path, a wandering from one thing to another, following long paths, extended journeys, broad mental training and deep readings. All of this activity bubbles up from an underlying Jovian joy, a fountain that was not made, by the hands of man.

Reflections on the Ninth House

To my understanding there is no house larger than the ninth, for it is boundless, stretching farther than the naked eye can see, one reason why "vision," "prognostication," are considered ninth house activities, X-rays and telescopes ninth house objects, where mythology and story abound. Imagine a house where activities take place in realms rather than rooms. When I find myself at once transported without accompanying feelings, I dare say I've not quite made the trip. It appears to me that the ninth house is so large and complex that us mere mortals struggle through it. People with ninth house consciousness have more to say than we sometimes can or should afford to hear, sometimes a double-edged sword. It is the house of the dreaming mind and of dreams, the expanding consciousness, the prophet and philosopher, the visionary.

Remember, also, Cassandra's fate and that of John the Baptist or the prejudices felt against the still much maligned "gypsies." On this darker note, it is a house where justice, or judgment, is passed in a court of law; a foreign land or culture where we are beset with difficulties and feel estranged; where we may experience the constraints of law, dogma and orthodoxy espoused by fanatics; where our debaucheries and other excesses may result in karmic consequences; where what we publish, broadcast, advertise or propogandize boomerangs on either the bombast or the individual or society swept away; our counsel and advice to others falling short of intent or drastically overreaching its mark.

Yet here more than anywhere else, I feel shaped by raw feeling, for who cannot weep unabashedly at the feet of an awesome God(dess) of My or Your Understanding, to find oneself, filled with awe, reborn. It is where I go to touch my soul, and I can walk through the hallways of orthodox religion, ritual, profound study, meditation, formal learning, or dreams, and many others besides, to do so. I can fly or sail to foreign realms, immerse myself in diverse cultures. When I allow myself to experience the room or realm, I find my day-to-day reality upturned, my consciousness expanded, as I reclaim or own the inheritance already mine.


I am surprised when I recall some of the very special feelings the ninth house inspires: adoration, a spirit of adventure, reverence, wanderlust, wonder, awe, an exhilarating rush, liberality, love of truth and freedom, prayerful feelings, magnanimity, inspiration, desire to philosophize, confidence and faith, enthusiasm, zeal, buoyancy, authenticity, mystery, rapture, righteousness, a sense of destiny. When I experience those feelings, especially consistently over time, I cannot help but be transformed/reborn anew.

Now it is very curious to me when I stumble across a person with a ninth house developing or developed consciousness because I really want to read or listen intently to what they have to say, while exercising my developing powers of discernment, also ninth house. Fortunately we have to look no further than the commentary provided by a dreamer in this issue whose allusions to dreams seem to suggest a seamless interweaving between dream and day-to-day reality. His commentary, entitled The Immortal, The Living and the Dead, made mention of God 23 times; Muslim, 5; Jesus or Christ, 10; spirit, 5; religious or religion, 6; prophet, 3; Mohamed, 2; Buddha, 2; hexagram, 3; foreign, 3; Tibetan Yogi, 1; Catholic, 1 as some examples. Once immersed in his commentary, I felt a bit of the void filled through my lack of either ninth house dreams or feelings in recent times.

Five-Day Workshop, October 1-6, 2000

OVERVIEW: Our view of organizations too often is constrained by the observable, logical and rational. It frequently relies on theories and strategies designed to maintain control over outcomes -- even in the midst of turbulence, complexity, and unpredictability. Despite this orientation, it is the dynamics hidden in the shadows that typically present the most challenge for those working with and in organizations. An exploration of what is unspoken, tacit, and presumably unknown can reveal shared fears, fantasies and conflicts and thereby provide a deeper understanding of organizational reality.

In this workshop, participants are invited to share and work with what is unconscious in social reality and, in particular, in their organizations. Social Dreaming is a pioneering methodology that addresses the unthought and unconscious dimensions of the social world. It is based on the assumption that we dream not just for ourselves, but as part of the larger context in which we live. This perspective regards dreams as more than the private possession of the dreamer and instead also relevant to social reality - including the workplace. This idea has an ancient lineage. Long before Freud or Jung began to study dreams scientifically, dreams and dreaming had great significance to people in some societies - Australian aboriginals and American Indians, for example - as they attempted to understand the meaning of their lives and the world in which they lived.

First conceptualized in the early 1980's by W. Gordon Lawrence, then a member of London's Tavistock Institute of Human Relations, Social Dreaming programs have since taken place in England, Germany, Israel, Sweden, Australia and the United States. Previous participants have included managers and line workers from various businesses and organizations, consultants, students, and others interested in organizational dynamics. Participation in the workshop requires no previous experience or knowledge; anyone interested in better understanding the deeper dynamics of organizations is welcome.

Over the week, work will incorporate dreams, metaphors, myths and graphic imaging as 'media' to help gain a deeper understanding of the shadows left obscure in most organizational work.

Communicate actively all year with fellow ASD members who share your interests! Beginning September 1st, 2000, ASD is introducing another ASD membership benefit which will allow more opportunities for ASD members to actively interact between conferences. The format for this exciting new development is through a series of theme-based electronic or E-Study groups which will have weekly or monthly bulletins, shared readings for mutual discussion, opportunities for interchange of ideas via e-mail or possibly Internet chats and periodic summaries or digests of information by a group scribe. Members will be able to choose full participation or just want monthly or quarterly digests or updates.

The immediate purposes of the Dream E-Study e_mail groups are to
1) Promote community and active communication among ASD members with common interests;
2) To share, discuss, and explore current research, writings, art, or unique projects across the spectra of dreaming and dream studies;
3) To work together on mutual projects such as research and/or preparing seminars or presentations for ASD conferences and regional meeting or in your own locations and communities;
4) To provide guidance and mentorship to members who want to develop their interests in a particular field;
5) To ultimately attract new members who will want to join in these active dream studies' "incubators" of ideas and synergy;
6) To develop educational materials on the ASD website;
7) To develop curricula for ASD's continuing education program;
8) To inspire collaboration and synergy with the intrusion of administrative constraints and travel to meetings, and with the convenience of participate when and how you choose.

There should be a very modest level of activity--perhaps emails back and forth 2 or 3 times a month. If you are willing to be an interim coordinator to get a group started, perhaps you can use your stature and influence to start the group and from that a permanent coordinate and scribe will emerge to document the groups activities.

In addition, each E-Study group will be encouraged to
A) Develop symposia or focused discussions for ASD annual conferences;
B) Post periodic digests of interesting discussions that occur on the ASD bulletin board;
C) Become developers and incubators and collectors of educational articles and links that can be made available on our web site to enhance ASD's educational mission;
D) Develop continuing education materials that might be used in a future ASD Continuing Education Certificate.
E)) Recruit new members for ASD by offering in depth discussions of specific areas of dreaming and dream studies.

Well, there are some problems with the dream section this month. At the beginning of 2000 I was hoping the volume (vol 1) would auto-switch to volume 2. But it didn't, so I just let it go and now we have like 365 issues in volume # 1. Well, we'll just let the historians figure this out. I have now re-assigned the volume manually to #2 and haven't seen if this worked. In the meantime, the dreams below pick up from where they left off last month and continue though dream-flow issue # 365. - Richard

=( last night, tuesday early AM, i got in driving back from massachusetts at 02:54. my mother was in her room reading and i got her up while i unpacked my car of the easy things. figure i will dismount the motorcycle from its trailer tomorrow and clean the car. i had left my friends in massachusetts around 17:00 on sunday and got home 1500 miles later, pretty much driving straight through and sleeping only when needed, about six hours total for the trip. i had been gone for a little more than two weeks on vacation and visiting friends up north. i got to sleep around 04:15 which is pretty normal time for me. )=

the cultural gardens of kyobi, japan are a place of artwork and goodwill. i am there for a few weeks on an exchange program, arranged by my university. the gardens are actually set up in a courtyard outside the main building. many statues from various times of japanese history and representing styles of art have been arranged area in front. paintings and other works of less durable nature are inside.

i am outside in this garden of artwork to watch my friend, fiat yokohama, work out with his kendo sword. with me is michelle littlefield who is walking around looking at the various statues. her mother has taught her to appreciate the finer aspects of sculpture. michelle is a cute little blonde girl, aged about eight years, sent over here by her parents to be with me on her school vacation. after a while fiat gets tired of his sword passes, looking more like a slow moving ritual than a manual of arms. when takes off his helmet, his face is clearly covered with sweat.

seeing that he is finished for now his exercises, michelle goes over to fiat. he begins explaining to her the philosophy behind the practice of kendo and the harmony of the universe.

"all things have structure." he begins. "no matter how big or how small an object is, there are lines of force that holds them together. for the warrior, intent on destroying or protecting a thing, it is a matter of finding those lines of balance and applying a small force to just the right place where the lines converge. everything has at least one of those center points and then our task is to learn how to locate and use them."

he goes on into more details with her, but i do not listen. i am more interested in some of the details of the sculptures as i wander through them. after a little while, i hear michelle say, "can i try?"

"yes, why not?" replies fiat. "but do not expect too much at first. you must be patient and learn."

so michelle walks away looking at the various statues. soon she selects a giant replica of the god, rikaiyu, a towering work of stone and inlaid metal. rikaiyu looks like a cross between a man and lizard, frightening face and arms upraised in menace. "i do not like you so much." michelle tells the statue as she gently puts her hand upon its leg.

michelle begins to push on the spot of the leg, usually with a gentle pressure but in sequence with some complicated rhythm. the significance of this pattern of pats and pushes does not seem any reason except to her. sometimes a slap or even a punch; others a mere caress. the rhythm of her handwork defies adequate description. soon i can see that the statue itself, maybe five meters tall towering above her, begins to shake and vibrate. still she finds just the right tempo to add a little more pressure in its shaking. finally parts of the demon begin to crack and fall off, and suddenly it splits down the middle with a loud crack.

"cool." she says. fiat and i look at each other in amazement.

michelle then goes over the edge of the building of the cultural center. she puts her hand out to touch the concrete corner. again she starts applying the little pushes in a faster pattern this time to the place she has selected. the building is about five stories high, a collection of glass and metal and brickwork. i think surely this is too large, but pretty quickly the frame begins to shake and groan as if in a local earthquake. michelle has wrinkled her forehead in concentration on the sequence of vibrations to know just when to add one more push. suddenly the whole brick wall of the first floor gives way in rush beside her.

"michelle!" fiat and i cry is alarm, but she is unhurt. the avalanche of brickwork fell out just beside her.

still thinking about the possibilities of her new discovery, she walks a little way out into an open area of the courtyard. then she kneels down and slaps her hand against the pavement on the ground. she starts to perform a big pattern of forces on the earth itself. "michelle, no!" i yell over to her, sounding just like her parents. she shrugs and stops. i did not want turkey or thailand just falling off into the sea.

by now people have come swarming out of the cultural building, thinking there must have been a major earthquake. most of the people inside have been trapped upstairs by the collapsed central stairway. i think that i had better get in touch with the authorities at my university to warn them of this event as soon as possible. i dig through the knapsack i have been carrying for the address of the attache which i am to contact in case of emergency. i think this certainly qualifies.

when i find the piece of paper with his international telephone number on it, i realize there is a problem. all of the satellite communication equipment is on the second floor of the building which is now unreachable because of the collapsed stairs.

"what about the transmogrifier?" i ask fiat. "do you think you can operate it?"

"i think so." he answers. we go together over to an equipment store room, now opening into the courtyard since its wall went down with the falling brickwork. the transmogrifier is another piece of experimental technology that we were only to use under extreme circumstance.

in one of the boxes on a table i locate some brass cylinders and a complex crystal prism. ah, these are parts of the device. fiat takes them from as quickly assembles them with a few other parts.

"here goes." he switches on a knob in the side and points it at me. there is a small hum and a beam of light comes out from crystal. but when the beam hits my chest, nothing happens.

"darn. does not work." i say.

"no." fiat tells me. "i do not think this works the way you expect to."

with the light beam still on my chest, the device sprouts a tentacle of quicksilver ectoplasm. this shiny, irregular extrusion snakes around in the air several times before finally coming around to touch me in the spot where the beam of light has marked.

a white glow covers my whole body and i feel my consciousness separate from the matter which comprises myself. in a flash i find myself in the communication room up on the isolated second floor. my appearance there has a white translucent quality. i can touch and feel things, but i know that my actual body is back with fiat as long as he keeps the transmogrifier connected to me. i am in a sort of projection emitted by the device. there is a long thin, elastic tendril of silver that extends away from me, keeping me in connection i assume.

"we need to set up a scrambled conference call to the university in the united states." i tell the startled the japanese technicians in the telecomm room. their english is pretty good, so they understand what needs to be done once they get accustomed to my appearance.

soon the teleconference is established. "hello, are you there?" i hear the voice of the provost, a man i hardly know.

"yes." i reply looking at the video monitor on the wall. "i see the university lawyer is there with you. is sheigeko honda there too? she needs to hear this." sheigeko is the coordinator of the japanese exchange program.

"yes, i am here." i hear her voice then she steps in front of the camera so i can she her.

"the situation is this. my girl friend, michelle, has discovered how to use a harmonic resonance which has the ability to destroy entire buildings at least. maybe she can do much more as she was inclined to experiment with moving the entire earth. if anyone can do this, and all eight year old children find out that this can be done, it will probably mean the end of civilization as we know it. every structure can be brought down by anybody who fancies to do it. on the other hand, if only michelle can do this, then some kind of monitor or protective service will need to be set up to secure her and establish a control on her powers. if only some people can sense the confluence of structure supports and how to use them, then we need to ascertain who they are and how to identify who needs containment for the safety of everyone. perhaps only eight year olds can do this. that is a disturbing thought."

"how many people know about this?" this new provost is not very bright it seems.

"michelle, fiat and myself. the technicians in this room and yourselves. but if this has been figured out once, then it will be again and perhaps in less controllable circumstances. eliminating the sources of information does not solve the problem."

a technician from the states side pokes in. "how long have you been using the transmogrifier? it has not been tested for more than a few seconds and was not intended for long term use."

i notice that the silver umbilical line from my projected body has dissolved only a few meters away from me, waving listlessly in the etheric currents. i may be trapped forever in this ghost body if i can not get back to my corpse just outside the building. distance and direction in the astral plane are not relevant to normal dimensions. will have to solve that problem when we get to it.

=( i awake here at 10:15. michelle is the little girl i was visiting with her family in massachusetts until two days ago. sheigeko honda is the director of the japanese exchange program at my university. all other persons in this dream are unknown to me. the demon, rikaiyu, had appeared in another dream a long time back. this was a votive statue to him, not the actual being. )=

Dream Title kidnapped by a dead person; grace

Dream I was kidnapped by an ex boyfriend and it does'nt seem like we really did anything but hide and maybe he stole. He was not unpleasant, actually very loving, he had no intention of letting me go. I said to him,"I thought you were dead." He replied, "It was a cover up so I would not have to go to jail anymore." It seems like we went all over the place, always on foot. His hair was a little sweaty. I kissed him only once. The dream went on forever it seems with us hiding out and running all over the place. It seems we were trying to go somewhere specific, but I don't know where and I woke up before we got there. I also became a willing participant after he kidnapped me, but I had some kind of strange fear throughout the whole ordeal. We did alot of climbing and crawling too.

Comments by Dreamer The guy in my dream died almost 2 years ago, he was my first love. I have not spoken with him in 9 years. He became a petty theft and was in and out of jail over the last few years of his life. I have never dreampt of him, but I seem to dream of and have conversations with dead people in my dreams. I do not understand this. They are always the most detailed dreams I have and I always remember them.

Dream Title Strange Vacation, by Alli

Dream It started out that Dave was in this play with the bitchy girl. (Who, I think, was a spin-off in my mind of Maxine from Being John Malcavich which I saw the night before.) Of course Dave was being too friendly with the bitchy girl, and that angered me. But it didn't last long, and the next part of the dream had to do with Ashley and I eating breakfast at some restaurant (I think we were all at a fancy campground.) and Dave was walking around. The next thing I remember was that I was standing between Dave and Billy against this wall, and his parents were saying how it would be great if I went up to the pool with Dave and Billy. After that, I woke up.

Dream I dreamed i was at a Pearl Jam concert that was being held in a barn. The door to the barn was open throughout the dream, I was the girlfriend of the lead singer of Pearl Jam (my favorite band) we were very in love i was very happy. I had a cookie i was carrying around that looked like a cookie but was an autograph book. I lost it at one point in the dream and was searching for the rest of the dream - i found it just before i awoke

Dream I was in the car with my friends Zach Robbie and some other guy who I didn't recoginize and we're going to his lake house..which is actually a beach and then later on we are in the car again going to the beach and I'm in the passenger seat with Zach and all a sudden the guy in the back seat cuts open Zach on the left side on his chest and he starts getting upset and blood is all over the place and all of a sudden blood gets all over my chest( But Zach has a deep wound)..I'm wearing a blue t shirt...and I kiss Zach on the back and he smiles and I can't get the blood off...later I start talking to Zach and in real life hes partially deaf and in my dream i tell Candice that he can hear bc i was whispering to him.



Background- I made out with Zachand They told me he didnt have a gf but during it his gf walked in...and I blew my chance with his friend Mike.whom i liked...and I lost respect for myself...or the dream could respect my bad breakup last week with my ex bf Nick and my bestfriend...who constantly lied to me and i was crying about it for a couple days

I was in my living room with Linda Revere and some one knocked on the door, it was Mich my ex husband, I said I

Knew you were coming (Psychic premonition) he came in and was acting like he used to treat me when things were bad between us and I thought I wish you would go before Steve my curent husband gets home. And he went to take a shower. All I could think is I want you to go.

This is the first dream I have had ware I saw Mich for what he was to me (abusive).

Dream Ever since I can remember, I have always had dreams that are very colorful and vivid, or extremely terrifying, horrid visions of death. Sometimes, I'll dream of a senario, and then it happens in real life. Sometimes I have "off-the-wall" thoughts that just pop into my head without any prior thought or interest.



I dreamed of my ex-love. I saw him several times throughout this dream. He was unaware that I was in his presence. He was with a woman who is now his wife. I knew it was her, but her face did not match the person I know her to be. It was upseting because they (Alex & Sylvia) were engaged in sexual intercourse. I remember becoming very uncomfortable. As if I wanted to fly out of their room. It was even stranger when I tried to approach Alex ... again he seemed not to notice that I was in his presence. Finally, towards the end of this morning's dream, we saw each other in what seemed to be a cave, dwelling of somesort. It was dark and cold. I also remember that we longed for each others touch, but I started to fly away from the dream state and woke up feeling very sad and disappointed. I know that when you dream of a certain person that you will be seeing them soon. And it just so happened that I had seen Alex and his wife driving in town that same day which was yesterday.


To date, I have had difficulty letting go of all the wonderful memories Alex and I created while we were together. I guess I still love him.



Alex broke off our relationship of five years when he discovered Sylvia was pregnant with his child. She basically trapped him into staying with her, thus leaving our love, behind for good ... she gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. Something, I could never give him ...

Dream I dream that I am trying to go somewhere. usually it's to an airport. But I don't know where I'm going. Sometimes I can't get to the airport. Sometimes I do and then I can't find out what gate my plane is at or my destination. Sometimes I feel that if I do get somewhere, it will mean that I am going to die.

Dream History: I am a 25 yr old female-I have been married for 7 yrs.-The man I refer to in the dream is someone I actually did know as a friend before my marriage-I have only seen him once since in passing at a store.



The Dream:

I have been having these reoccurring dreams for over 5 yrs. now. I run into and old (guy) friend I have not seen in years. We are extremely happy to see each other again. We gaze into each others eyes and just know we are meant to spend the rest of our lives together. We abandon our current lives as we know them and run off together. I leave my marriage without hesitation, gather my child, and leave with him.

It is not as if we instantly fall in love, but rather like we have an endless, unconditional love. We have finally found each other again, and it is time to move forward with our lives together.

The theme stays the same, the places are usually public, and it has not been sexual in nature.

I feel an overwhelming, unconditional love for him that haunts me for weeks after each dream, and wreaks havoc on my daily life. I even find myself looking for him around the corner, at the store, or where ever I may be.
Comments by Dreamer I need some perspective about these reoccurring dreams, because my heart takes them very literally. The unconditional love seems as real as anything I have ever felt. The more I try to ignore the dreams the more often they occur. I actually could find this person in real life, but I have not made attempts to do so.

Dream I had a dream where my sister, my friend, and I were sleeping in someone's living room. We were scared, because we kept thinking that we saw someone looking at us from outside through the window. After a while, they went outside looking for the person, but they didn't see anyone. Sure that they were safe, the two of them went to sleep. I was still scared, and heard a noise coming from another room. I opened it to find the owner of the house uneasy. He said that he had thought there was someone outside also, and was scared. He said that I could stay in there so that I would not be alone. I sat in bed next to him, and I could still see the face in the window. I wasn't scared anymore and fell asleep.

Dream somewhat vague dream. I'm in my car and at least 2 recognizable friends are with me. I am aware that weve got marijuana in the car and were on our way to another friend of ours house. when we get there there are cops there or they followed us there. we get out and the two people i'm with get either arrested or are in trouble but theyre not taken away and theyre sitting outside the house with me as the cops search the house of the friends were visiting. The girl who lives at the house runs out and hands me a bag of marijuana and tells me to dump it quick so i run farther back into the yard where a tiolet sits (not in real life)and i flush the pot. I then walk back up and realize i've got marijuana on me but im not too worried bacause the cops dont seem to be paying much attention to me. I'm sorta feeling invincable and very good about myself that i'm not in trouble and everyoen else aparently is. the girl then comes back out and says that i sho!

uld get rid of the pot im carrying so i reach down and stick it under a rock for safe keeping. Then knowing that i'm not going to get in any trouble and i'll still have some pot after all this is over, i turn to my friends with a big smile and say "were gettin high tonight!" thats where the dream ends i think.

Dream In this dream i started off traveling in a group of fighters. A monster attacks, one of our members were hurt and the monster fled.

We found a peasant house and the woman living there invited us to stay there for the nite. While we walked around the village, I saw a statue of the monster which attacked us. The lady explained to us that the monsters, each with its own area, will not go near others of their own kind. The same night we gathered and discussed how to rid the monsters, and one thing we decided was to drive a car. I was the one chosen to drive. I sat in the car and started it (In real life I didn't know how to drive). The car swung left and right. I felt dizzy and finally i dropped out of the car, lying on the ground. A girl with a group of guys came by and said I was a girl(I am a guy), I fell unconcious before I could repond. The next thing I know I was walking in a hallway, and a best friend of mine came. He was very angry and punched me in my stomach. I punched him in return. He said he was told that I was flirting with his girlfriend (the girl I saw before I fell unconcious, in real life we never met each other). I explained to him what I wasn't flirting with her, and in fact I didn't know she is his girlfriend. He then went away. I followed him to a room and he was using the computer. I kept walking to the next room and his girlfriend sleeping in bed, that's when I first noticed she was bery beautiful(as he told me in real life). That's the end of my dream.

Dream i went to bed, and was still trying to fall asleep. the light was fading behind my eyes to deeper and deeper shades of black. suddenly , the blackness became water, and slowly out of the water rose jesus christ. he looked just like the paintings and illustrations of the western world, robes and beard and kind face. then i noticed in the water people, all staring at him with adoration. they fell backwards into the water, and they were drowning, but they were overwhelmed with happiness. you could read it in their expressions. then, jesus stretched his arms out, as if to enfold them or something, and his head rolled down his arm. i awoke with a start, and realized that i couldn't move. at that exact moment, something large and dark, very dark, streaked behind the door of my bedroom, which i had left open. i tried to scream, but i couldn't. finally, when i realized that it wasn't coming back, i calmed down and told myself that i had to move, and eventually i was able to. i still feel that, during the whole thing, from start to finish, i was not actually asleep. there just wasn't time for me to have gone under. this happened several years ago, but is completely fresh in my mind. does anyone have an explanation, or a similar story?

Dream I dreamed I was at a Christmas party with a Lawyer friend od mine and it was storming outside ( maybe a tornado)then he came in and said, "the sun is coming out" he repeated this several times so I went to a balcony to see and the sky was like 3-D and the sun was in the back dimension, so I went to this other room to check on my mother but when I walked in her room, I was in her house and her phone started to ring and I told her to check caller ID and it was the name of the person whom I am very much in love with (but I am not with this person I am with someone else but still love this other person) anyway, I picked up the phone happily and it was not him but his mother, she said, "may I speak with Julie? I said you are and she said there has been a terrible accident and John (my love/her son) is in the hospital dying and is asked me to call you. He told me EVERYTHING and said you are the one he has always loved and needs you with him before he dies."
I asked," did he tell you EVERYTHING?" she said, "Yes~ I know about Caitlyn" (this is our 2 yr. old daughter and she does not know we have a child together) so I was hysterical and did not hear when

  
she told me what was wrong with him............

When I woke up I was very sick to my stomach and I went to the store to get sugar.....I heard a very strange noise in my truck and looked everywhere and found nothing. I looked for about 10 minutes.when I went into the store the lady inside asked me what I was doing, I told her I heard a noise in my truck, she said, "Maybe it is the Death Beetle." I was in shock because, the Death Beetle is in a movie called, Practical Magic.....it was a curse a witch put on every woman in the family for eternity, that whoever heard this beetle, the person they loved would surely die......This was very strange to me.......That same evening my brother got remarried to his ex wife in a simple church.....I was sitting on the second row with my children when a homeless man came to the first row and sat down directly in front of me.....he turned to me and started to speak to me in sign language......( I DO know sign language but do not know this man at all) (How did he know???) Then when he went to shake my hand, I noticed he had scars in the palms of his hands like Jesus Christ has from being nailed to the cross?????? Does all this mean something???

Ten days ago, my partner of 11 months & I ended our intimate relationship. Much volatility in the final hours and for many months prior. He lives very near me presently, and I dreamed he moved to a new "rental nearby. I was over to visit him, wondering why he moved to a house (we both rent separate condos) that was so close to where we live now. He shared this 5-bedroom house with other adults. His bedroom area faced the street and had very flat light lime green paint all over it with a very small kitchen area. It was not very nice, in fact, old and grungy. Also,I was surprised because he loves to cook and has 2 young sons he shares custody of. This place was a Home shared with other adults, not accommodating for children. Sadly,as he toured me, I noticed the other rooms looked like rooms for druggie-type adults who enjoyed substance, had no families, but wanted to live with like-minded adults with a drug-based life. It felt sad to me. Particularly, the "female" room (I saw no other adults, only their bedrooms) had chiffon feminine bedspread and curtains, but felt like that of a woman who enjoyed various sex partners. I felt this place was so different than what I would want. He did substance while we dated, yet I did not care to. It caused a lot of mood swings and just prior to our ending it, he "locked himself" in his condo w/ a male friend and got loaded for 48 hours straight, never coming out, never calling me. This man appears professional and has his own business(w/ which he is struggling) yet enjoys a wilder lifestyle. He is a caring father. I wanted a more traditional relationship, less quarreling, and I do not do substance other than drinking. I have contemplated what this dream meant and so want your help. I am getting over the relationship and it is so fresh...don't quite get the help the dream contained.Thank you very much.

I was a part of a large community, living together in a complex of buildings and living quarters, on massive acreage. One of the buildings was a training facility, for combat, stealth, operations of various sorts with a feeling of anti-givernment. Missions were planned and trained for, scenarios played out and there was a certain progression that everyone was required to follow even if they weren't there to go into the field, even if their skills were not in that area.



I had a vision problem and wore glasses and it bothered me terribly. (In waking life I do wear glasses, my recent difficulty seeing has been very distressful, and my father has been needing cataract surgery for some months and I have neglected to take him for it.) I knew it would affect my performance in a certain test course I would be having to go through and I thought it unfair and was afraid I would be mis-judged based on that, that it wouldn't be taken into consideration and I was distressed about it. I was pacing back and forth in front of the counter, waiting for my turn.



I had an object of desire... a man who kept appearing as two different people: a boy (now grown as the man) who I had known in my childhood (close family friend, it was always joked that we would grow up and marry, we remain in occasional touch) and my now companion who came here to live with me because I need help with certain things (I am also married - 30 years - and have 5 grown children). In this place (waiting for my test) he was the grown boy.



In being my object of desire, I was obsessed, he was on my mind constantly. I worried about everything to do with him/us. I was afraid I was going to scare him away with my intense nature, everything from my facial expressions to anything I said to him. We were dating casually, but I suspected he knew the intensity of the feeling I had for him and it was a constant stressor.



On the other side of the counter where I was waiting to take my test, there were divided areas each consisting of 4 work stations. They were defined as being either computer, person only, empty, or other types. The test consisted of standing at the end of the counter and bending over to look through a one-eye view. The perspective was difficult and I had to go from the end forward and name each station. Memory played a definite role in my answers and I said so. He said that was alright and to not be distressed by my poor vision but to do the best I could.



I completed the test and wanted to stay with him, but he ushered me out and said that I had things to do, others to attend to and that he would see me later. I went back to the main house to help with certain things... preparing dinner, seeing visitors off, trying to help my mother who had just moved into the complex and was still unpacking.



People were milling around, making plans for dinner and what to do afterwards, Dark was falling and there was no central lighting system and we all knew that we would have to either light torches and candles or accept the darkness. There were certain activities planned that I did not want to participate in but felt pressured and obligated to do so. It remained dark as no one lit anything and I was glad, thinking I would be able to slip away unseen. I wanted to think about the object of my obsession.




I slipped away from the activities but was accosted in the kitchen by a young girl who wanted me to help her make fried onion rings. I knew that would take time and I wanted to avoid it so I sent her on an errand and then put the bowl outside the door, making it difficult for her to find. Another person came in and looked disheveled and I asked her what she was doing and where she was going. She took me to another room and said that some of them were going away for the summer and did I want to go? I said no, I couldn't bear the thought of being separated from "him". They were doing some shooting routines and I became enraged, took a gun from one of them and aimed it at the tv screen which was showing Maury Povich. I hit him in the forehead right between the eyes and the picture froze like that, with a smile on his face.



They were horrified and looked at me as if i had done a truly terrible thing and they started to say how unlike me that was, how out of character. I became even more distressed and threw (I typed "through" and then corrected it here...) the gun down in horror and ran from the room. I was confronted by a group who were distraught over an accident, it turned out that I had been riding a horse with my father who was incapable of staying on by himself. When I had slipped off, he had fallen and was hurt, needing to go to the hospital.



I called the VA and tired to explain things, but they were far away and not helpful They said they knew him and that he was just acting. I argued but they were not receptive. (In waking life my father has been ill, going down hill and I have neglected my responsibility to get him to a doctor.) I finally threw the phone down and went to try and get ready, showered, looked frantically for something to wear as I had outgrown most of my clothes (gained weight). I found a closet with some of my older "fat clothes" and tired to find something without much success and had to settle for something I didn't like.



My mother came out of the other area and confronted me in some distress, showing me a bracelet that was mine. She asked me had I given it to HIM and I said it was none of her business, that it was mine. If I wanted to give it away I would, that it had in fact been given to me by soandso (a former lover). She was very upset and then HE walked in and I was upset to think that he might think our family was unstable and undesirable in terms of getting involved with on any personal level. He walked the other way and I followed him and he turned around and said for me to not worry.

Ground floor room, I need to go up to higher floor. There is some public event, this is rather unlear, higher up. I am lowered a thick blue curtain, it is a lot longer than I expected. I know I should grasp it tightly and they would pull me up. However I know I would lose my grip. So I decide to climb the stairs, they are not very safe. When I get to the upper floor there is a wide, covered, wooden plank reaching from the windowsill to window of the block of flats across. Some young man, quite acrobatic with it, is setting it up. I am waiting for him to finish, I know that with his help, close ahead of me, I could cross the plank. But it is so unsafe. I know I can do it, but it is dangerous without help.

i dreamed that the world was ending..the moon fizzled from it's position in th sky, the meteors and stones flew toward me quickly. The sky was still dark but it laid on the background of fiery brite yellow and orange..my soul was flooded with fear and questions, the room was filled with people. 4 of them I could identify but the rest of them I couldn't ..i ran for shelter first under the table and then in a closet..my favorite closet filled with my laundry bags that needed to be washed...my lover of seven years walked right passed me as I tried to get her attention...she looked at her daughters photo and seemed to be sad that her daughter wasn't with her..i kept telling everyone they needed to pray..my youngest brother..who's usually unphased by nothing and noone..passed me as well, and mentioned that he was going to the car with my mother who has been dead for over fourteen years..i felt myself crying and finally I woke up and much to my surprise my elder sibling sister who never ever visits me ..was standing in my room with her son.and my niece..and she consoled me and told me to have this dream interpreted so here I am! In my dream it was early morning ad I was standing in the doorway looking out to the street. I heard an airplane, and I could tell by the sound that it was coming down. The plane was a small white plane with a red pinstrip down the side. It crashed nose first into the street. No explosion or fire, it just seemed to fall from sky. I went in the house to call 911 and a kid answered the phone and told me to hold on. Someone else got on the phone and I told them a plane had crashes and I gave them my phone number and address. I ran back outside, but it was so dark I couldn't see anything, and all the electric in my house was off. I felt scared about the darkness. I went back to the door to see if the plane was there. It was now daylight and there was no sign of the plane or even marks from the crash. Before I woke up I realized the police never showed up. That was it. I was always in the pregnancy chat room(I was in my third trimester of pregnancy at the time). I would ask questions in the room about pregnancy and talk about baby names and labor stories. Mostly when I was having these dreams it was with the regulars that came into that room. I would time out with my ISP and that is usually when I awoke.

Comments by Dreamer I would often wake my mother from talking in my sleep and she said that I would move my hands as if typing. I was on bed-rest my last trimester and I had a laptop in which I spent most of the day in the pregnancy chat room. The rest of the day I was chatting in my sleep.

I was dreaming that my sister fysicaly abuses me and that there was coming blood and organs out of my mouth. No-one seemed to be noticing it.But while I was dreaming this, another dream was also there, it is like i dreamed two stories. The other one was that i order food in a local shop, where you can combine you're own dinner, and i order two fatty omelets and chips and ther was trouble with counting how much it costed. Oh yeh, my sister had trouble counting, and got mad at me, fysically and so i counted it, there were 3 numbers, i can't remeber wich, but two wher something like xx,xx en xx,xx and the other xx,xxx. So that was de difficulty. My brother saw me bleeding and spitting organlike meat.

Then ther was a meeting with a videomovie, where ther was a men who wasn't himself anymore and he had possible abused his girlfriend (that person was me, but didn'tlook like me)

I'm jumping on a trampoline outside my childhood home looking around, and I see the clouds circling and the blue sky turning gray. I run in my house and suddenly to look out the picture window in my childhood home. I see three tornadoes swirling around. All are very wide at the top and stay wide until the come to a point almost at the ground. They are also diagonal and lazy in stature. The sky is a really rich, almost 3 dimentional, deep gray, although there is no rain. The tornadoes whirl around a bit. I call my mother at our store which is within walking and sight distance and warn her. I see one tornado lay down on its side and clear a whole section of town as if a steam roller. The section cleared is very green and lush with trees and life. I see a mean looking 50-something man with a white and gray beard wearing roman clothing in white and gold (almost Caesarean) riding around on a white chariot pulled by 6 or 8 horses. But I don't close the front door to the house in fear. He is the seemingly bad man who is causing the tornadoes and he will kill. I close up in the tornado shelter which is a cinderblock room adjacent to our airconditioner in the front of the house. The door to the room is behind the curtain for the window and looks to be a sliding door or another curtain. I bend down to turn on the light switch which is tiny, not like a switch I've seen before. The light comes on briefly but it quickly goes out. It needs to be replaced. I go into the kitchen and get out the package of 10 watt bulbs which are tiny and in a green box and notice that many have already been used but there are a few left. I put the new bulb in and go about my business. The light in the room is almost a thick yellow and the carpet is a brownish/orange. My mom and her female employee are taking quite a while to close the store as if it is more important than safety. I run in and out of the house yelling for them to hurry up and I call now and then. I go back into the house each time to keep organizing and stockpiling food and other items into the shelter. I get the cheesepuffs, some sodas and keep working. I don't know what I was doing, but I was keeping busy. The female employee, Kathy, comes up to the house and does a few things while Im stockpiling and when I get to the shelter room, she is folding clothes. My mom gets there and I don't remember much of our interaction No one seems scared. No one is rushing to get IN the shelter, just prepare it. Then out the picture window, I see the chariot go by and the tornados getting closer to the house. I shut the house front door and lock it quickly. Look out the peephole and see an older woman 60s with a book, a purse, and some type of clip board. She knocks. She is supposed to look comforting and matronly, but for somereason she doesn't. I hesitantly open the door a crack and we converse a bit. I don't really remember what we talked about but she said I needed to go with her. I wouldn't so she said she'd just have to take further action. She walks back around the house. By this time the storms had somewhat cleared and some sun was showing. She goes to get her truck and pulls forward parallel to me in the driveway in her light green late 90s small Sonoma pickup. She gives me another chance to go with her, but I refuse and go back in the house. She leaves and after some more work in thehouse, I look out the door which I hadn't closed after the woman, and see the charioteer again. He is in mid air hovering in front of my porch. He just stares at me, I get scared and close the door. I look out the peep hole and he is gone. Then, I see the woman walking toward the door again. She tries to get me to exit the house again but I still refuse. She continues to coax me, and I continue to refuse although I open the door a bit to talk to her as she is a harmless old woman. She talks for a minute and then grabs my wrist. I yank it back and her purse gets caught in the screen door. She says that she has the authority to take me with her. I say that she doesn't. Kathy pipes in, she's just like the tax woman. (Kathy has had trouble with the law as well and should know). The old woman commiserates back at her and then tries to coax me out nicely. All the time she has her purse holding the screen door open between us. I bow in with no intention of going with her, tell her to go get her truck that I will meet her. She warns me not to go out the back door. The back door hasn't worked in years. I don't plan on going out that door anyway, I plan on going in the shelter until she goes away. (How logical!!) I try to shut the door after she walks down the front porch steps, but she reaches her arm in to try and hold it open. I push with all my might to try and keep her out. But I am just a fraction of an inch from getting the door to latch. My mom and Kathy come to help me push it shut, we struggle.



I wake up.



Comments by Dreamer The aspects in the home are all accurate except for the shelter room. I have no clue where that one came from. The older woman was a common 'old lady actress' from various television shows. She plays a somewhat senile character at times. While I'm having interaction with her, my mom and Kathy are just doing their business throughout the house.

This is a recurring dream. Sometimes it is my father and others it is another man.

=( the air conditioner had broken on sunday afternoon, but bill the repairman could not get here until today when i was scheduled to start classes again and give five hours of lecture. it was too hot for me to sleep all night, so i went in for a full day of teaching with about two hours of sleep. last night i went to bed early, being tired, but did not get to sleep until almost 03:30. i had to prepare a midterm exam and the programs did not cooperate so i ended up doing a lot of formatting by hand. when i finally got to turn off the light, i went right to sleep. )=

my parent's house in ohio seems strangely empty with just me living in it. the rooms are the same, but with my furniture in it, not theirs. at least this weekend i have guests staying over, so it will not seem so lonely.

in the dining room which always served as the main gathering place, being so central to everything else, i am sitting with the two gentlemen who are visiting with me. one is a man in his fifties, thin grey hair and distinguished looks, but he does not seem to have a name. at least, not one that i know even though i understand that i should know it. the other man is clint walker, the actor who played cheyenne bode in the television series of the 1950s. he is much older now, but still he has that massive, chiseled strong look, just sagged a little around the edges.

we are quietly talking about something or the other when my third guest arrives. why, it is marcia marks who i have not seen in many years. i am delighted that she is here. i get up and go over to kiss her. she is still the thin woman of slightly scarred beauty that i remember. indeed, i find that her occasional imperfection of the tissue, a jagged line on the leg or a tear across a lip, increases the intriguing character of her attraction to me. she always seems so open and giving of herself.


hm, a little too giving it seems. she hardly says hello to me. just a quick peck on the cheek and marcia goes over to clint walker and engages in one on one conversation like she is discovering him from the inside out. the other man and myself just ignored.

her luggage arrives with a taxi driver from the driveway. i am left to carry it all into one of the empty bedrooms. actually i was hoping that she would sleep with me as we usually do, but i would not presume on assuming this. just hope.

when i get back to the dining room, i find her kissing clint walker. well, there go my hopes i guess. feeling like an unwanted intruder, i go to the kitchen to find two containers of organic garbage that needs disposal. i do not know where my other visitor went.

taking the two plastic cans of garbage, i go out into the backyard with a large hand trowel. i am to bury the food scrapes in the garden where my mother always put it to fertilize the plants. there are not many things planted this season. i have to walk around a few scattered rows of vegetables, but the whole back half of the plot is untended.

taking my large tool in hand, i try to dig a hole into which i will toss the garbage. but the soil is strange. it is really light and loose, like a volcanic ash. every time i scoop a shovel full, it is so weightless that it runs off the shovel and cascades back down the sides of the hole. i can never the hole any larger.

since i can make no headway digging, i take up the first container of garbage, invert it over the loose place in the soil and see if i can push it in. not only does the container push through the soil easily, it quickly sinks the entire length of my arm. with the soil this sparse, i am surprised that i can walk upon it without sinking through. pulling the plastic can back out is something of an effort, having to pull against a suction, but when it comes out, i find that the garbage has remained behind. i repeat this process with the second can.

not wanting to go back into the house, i find that the digging tool is sharp on the edges and can be used as a hatchet. on the back edge of the garden there is an old cherry tree stump that needs removing. chopping at it takes a lot of strength, but i find the effort comforting. unlike relationships with women, this is a task which goes better the more work you put into it. even though the effort is difficult, there is a direct relation between what you do and what you accomplish. i chop and chop and chop. the stump comes apart in large chunks and i work at the roots partly buried in the soil.

"there you are." says marcia as she has come outside. "you seem to be going at that job with a vengeance. you are not upset with me, are you?"

of course i am, she obviously knows that. how could she not? "what you do with yourself has always been just up to you." i tell her. it was always that way, i could have no other way. but that does not stop me from wishing she wanted to be just mine.

"i am a celtic spirit." she says mysteriously. she had always before portrayed herself as a quaker. "i must give to those who need."

well, i feel a heart ache inside my chest like i need her, and she does not seem to be aware of it. or, at least, she does nothing about it. i think the last. she has to dole out her comforts judiciously and i am not on the list this time. why can't i tell her that i want her? it seems that if i bring myself to say the obvious, it will mean nothing.

"do you want me just for yourself?" she asks me, cocking her head to one side in the manner she did when inspecting leftover food for imperfection.

yes, my heart cries out inside me. "no, i want you to be yourself." i hear my mouth saying. both answers are true. i want herself to want to be just mine. but the yes is more true than the no, but i can not bring myself to say it. she has to choose me for herself for it to have meaning. still, i seem trapped in not being able to say what i mean.

the other man, not clint walker, comes out of the house. "i have checked the movie times, and we need to dress if we are going out." the last thing i feel like is going out with a group. he does not seem to talking to me anyway.

"what is showing?" marcia asks, obviously pleased to be the center his attention too.

"aplinka." he says.

"aplinka? what is aplinka?" i ask, but he ignores me. "what is aplinka?"

the two of them go off to the side to talk without my hearing. whatever a celtic spirit is, she does not tolerate belonging. i go inside the house to afford them the privacy of their plans.

i find clint walker has turned on the vinyl record player and is playing some of my albums. some jazz is currently whining out and i do not care for it. i go over to stacked row of records and start to sort through. i never kept them in any particular order, but could usually find what i wanted easily. but this time, i search and search with no luck.

i look up to clint. "did you take out pink floyd, wish you were here?" he nods and points to a stack of maybe twenty albums. apparently he is ready for some serious tunes.

=( i wake 10:25, just five minutes ahead of the alarm. i feel well rested and glad for the time when i feel like getting up. unfortunately, my heart is really sad for this dream. i have finally dreamed of marcia, and unfortunately this sad heartache is the result. she was a favorite woman of mine, and i wondered why i never dreamed of her when some of the less successful relationships repeat again and again. i guess this feeling of not being able to tell her the obvious was always true. i always think that she did see how i felt about her, but always needed to think she was freer than i could understand. anyway, i feel depressed about this, but that is probably an ecod of my current life leaking in. i hope someday i can recall the good feelings i usually could glean from her. those feelings never lasted for long though. )=

My Ex-husband and I dated for 3 years before we decided to marry. He ended up leaving me for another woman less than a year after we were married. I thought that I loved this man more than anything. Now I believe I loved him because he needed me. He is an alcoholic and generally a miserable person unless he is drinking. From what I hear, he is not doing very well now (missing work, drinking, no money, etc.) I know that we will never be together again but I still worry about him.



So I am single again. I am lonely on one hand but I don't think I am ready to date on the other. I think I am scared. Scared of finding another 'needy' man, scared of having someone else take advantage of me, and scared that I will never be truly loved for just being me. Since I do not want to do the 'bar scene' for fear of being found by another alcoholic, I decided to try an Internet dating service to find a potential mate. I have had several responses. One in particular that I am very interested in but I'm not sure how or if I should take the next step and meet this gentleman.



My dream began at a church social. In the church were 2 rooms. I was in one room and I could hear my ex talking in the other. After getting our lunch, my kids and I took our meal outside to eat. There was no place to sit so we walked down the block to another church social. The ladies at our table were extremely snobbish. I remember getting up and taking my children to eat in my truck. My truck was parked at a crossroad. My son and I saw, at the same moment, a large 'cloud-like ball' bouncing through the sky. He asked me if I saw it and I said yes. At that moment the ball turned into a very large whirlwind in the valley below this crossroad. A few moments later a huge eagle emerged from the whirlwind and started flying through the valley. Everyone from the church socials scattered fearing this large bird. My youngest daugher was not in the truck at the time. As I yelled at her to get in the truck, the eagle started flying towards her. I woke up at this point.



I rarely dream like this...this dream was extremely vivid and frightening.

We were having a very deep intellectual conversation. The room is very warm/hot and we are sweating. We begin to touch each other slowly, then we kiss; [then my alarm clock went off, and I woke up not knowing what happen]. I have never though about dating this young woman; and had nothing other than a working relationship with her while she worked at the Police Dept. She is some 20 years younger than me. I had a dream that this guy I had a former fling with danced naked for me. The dream goes as follows... I ran into him in a train station. I was with a bunch of my friends and he was with his friends. Before you know it he comes over to me totally naked with three of his friends that were also naked. He started singing a song to me while his friends provided the background music. It was like a capella. One line I strongly remember being repeated in the song was "My one and only Christine," which is my name. One thing I also remember was that he was very well endowed. (During our little fling it never went far enough for me to find out his size, but I do remember wondering if he was big or not.) 1.was on a raft on the ocean then a bump and we(my oldest son and his friend)were on the shore i stayed there a few mins. they left,when i got up they were gone and on a cliff approx. 2300feet in the air the beach was gone i could not climb that far so i spotted a tower started to climb,as i was the ocean came back in and i was drowning

2.woke up due to the feeling a tree was comming out of the top of my head this dream was 10yrs ago the tree had a red bird at the top.the face was round and black eyes.

a month or so i was watching pbs station tv and two explores in a canoe were in northern canada in a cave never explored and there on the wall was the little round face with the tree and the red bird.i was glad i was sitting

i have tried every one to see what these mean with no luck

well this dream is pretty short its start of by me being in a desert and there being no water for anybody and some of the people had never even seen water........it seemed weird to me so i ask what year it was and nobody knew so somebody eventually took me to a hospital i think...... i saw a nurse and was excited to see someone new and i asked her what year it was and she said 1974 i thought to myself that i was only 1 yrs old.......so i ask her what month and she said february and i thought that my sister hadnent even been born yet since her birthday is im march of 74 .....so im trying to think of a way to show all these people that im from the year 2000 and somehow get sent back here....then i woke up well hopefully u can dicifer something ........thanks bye

I woke up three times after having dreams where, when I awoke, was going to the bathroom. Does going to the bathroom in your dream have any symbolic meaning?

Comments by Dreamer I do not remeber one of the dreams, except for going to the bathroom when I woke up. In the second dream, I was playing soccer (which I do not play and do not really like either) and in the last dream I was doing some crafts activities with children I had worked with earlier in the summer, and then went down something like a waterslide without water, when I went to the bathroom just before waking up.

I remember being out in the desert, looking at the "remains" of my mother, who had been killed by a wolf. All that was left of her was a set of teeth that looked more like dentures than real teeth, but still, I recognized them as hers. There was also a hair clip shaped like a shell. I found a wolf's tooth as well. It was large and sharp, but it had a hole in the side and was completely hollow.

My mother called me on the phone after her death to tell me that she loved me and that she wouldn't be with me on Easter?!?!?

I started crying at this point and told her I couldn't live without her. I woke up crying.

Comments by Dreamer I was perplexed. I moved away from home back in January, but I've been adjusting. I do miss it though. This dream just seems so bizarre.

Some creatures, human-like, came out of nowhere and starting giving school age and teenagers this syrum(a shot) of stuff that would make them behave and if they didn't, they would get pain. It make, like molds(in the shape of their astrology sign, Chinese astrology sign and some other symbol) on there face and hurt them a lot even if they didn't. Me and brother hadn't had them yet(I did "need" to get it because I am a teenager, my brother is 18 so

for some reason he didn't have to get it). The people who made this syrum had pretty much taken control of everyone and everything.

Apperently, my brother had some plans to get rid of them(because they were obviously trying to take over the Earth), but some guys on a ship threw them to the bottom of a lake, thus destroying them. Well, then I gathered up my friends(the only ones I could reconigse was Leo - I believe his name was) and we were running around trying to get away from these guys. I guess they made a new syrum for adults and was trying it out on them. So we hid in a tent thing(at this point, I

guess me and Leo were very close), but then some black dude who worked for them took the tent off us. And exposing us to them



They didn't have a syringe for me so they had to run and get one. Know what I said? "Go on, kill me! I'm not afriad!" (I had broken all the needles on their other syringes a little back in the dream) So, I guess they pulled out guns or stun guns or something. I guess I was the only one who took cover, because when I looked up all the evil dudes were lying a towel over my friends.(I wasn't sure what was happening). Then they grabbed both my arms - I

struggled - but they held tight. The bent me other a little so I couldn't get to the needle, and almost suck me in the behind. Then it happened. Well, let's put it this way - I guess the syrum is flammable when someone farts. =)



Well, then they all fell unconcious and I ran for the elevator - before the door closes, I finally saw my friends under the towel. I felt tears in my eyes and said "I love you guys" and decided to go to the 2nd floor. Then I stopped the elevator. Something made me go to the 3rd floor - the roof. I went up there and looked in the hazy grey sky which had bee that way since the dudes got there I guess. I made a Dragonball Z - spirit ball thingy and it

"exploded". I guess everything started to go back to normal when the main dude came up on the roof and was kind of wiggily(guess going back to normal take a few seconds) and we were fighting and I karate kicked him off the roof.
