i am not much of a gamer type guy... i do play occasionally some
games, here and there, but most of them are old. a few times a
played some new games, specially on my android smartphone, i can say
that i was frustrated by playing them. and i don't mean the
graphics or the gameplay. those were way too cool for me... but i
was feeling very awkard with the whole adverstisement and "pay to
play" thing...

ì

for smartphone games, that are offered for free, i get it... in some
way the developers have to be paid... ok... but in a reasonable
price! i mean... you can see prices like "100$ for 100gems/credits"
which i think are too much! with 100$ you could buy a complete game,
not just 100 in game credits... i mean.. this is furious!

ì

also the thing with the advertisements has gotten out of hand...
every time you loose, every time you go to the next level... you
have to see ads! no...no...no... this is torture! i prefer to pay a
reasonable price for a game, but get a physical copy of it, and play
it... which brings the other matter.

ì

physical copies of games! non existant any more... why? i don't
think that games become cheaper by not using hard copies... did you
see that? why pay for a game, that i have no disc/cartidge for it?
why i have to donwload all that GBs of shit code, to play the game?
why i have to register and pay for online services... wait for
updates/upgrades to download... or even the complete game? and the
thing is, that young children don't care... that's the way they used
to it and just wait, wait, wait... and their parents, just pay, pay,
pay... i mean... this is peoples stupidity! and a great success for
corporate marketing...

ì

i like my games to have a physical media... even if i have a rom for
it, i still want the hard copy. it's like making a transaction, with
another party and you want to have something as a receipt, at least.
also in the past, the physical copy, had more stuff in it, like
maps, manuals, little gifts etc... and also the smell of opening a
package was something memorable :)

ì

but the worst thing, is the abudance of games, with less quality,
that we have today. the majority of games today, are "time-killing
machines"... they don't give to you something to remember... perhaps
a story or the feel to be part of a story, to be the hero... the
majority, are just to waste some time and spend money to buy useless
stuff, to allow you to play the game in hamane way... cause
otherwise there are delays, stuff that you are not able to get etc.

ì

in the beginning of the indy game dev. i really like the idea... but
now that i see, how it become, i disgust it... i prefer to pay
40-50-60 euros/dollars for a game of a big company like nintendo,
that i know that i will enjoy, than to play free games, that will
get into my nerves.

ì

i am sure, that are some gray areas in the matter and there are
exceptions in both game styles (physical/digital, free/paid) but
the big part of the market, is full of shity, cheapo games, that
just want to get your money. i think that i am not the only one
feeling this way. we can see clearly, specially with the retro
stuff, that physical media is not over and some companies invest on
this idea. it reminds a bit the situation with the music
companies/market, in which both digital and physical media exist in
some type of balance... and the physical media, is not just cds but
also vinyl. same goes for the game industry... where we can see that
cartidges are not complete dead and companies still make some new
retro/oldschool games in cartidges or cds.

ì

i am sure that even a young kid, who is used into playing digital
games only, is introduced in physical copies and also games with no
ads, no pay to play and with a nice story in it, will want more of
that. today the game industry, is being manipulated by the corps.
and not by the gamers... that's why we get so shity games.
